Winter Poems

Class M have written poems exploring the different faces of winter. They began by looking at the poem below.

Monochrome Serenity Icy frost-bitten finger stretch out across the land Snow caresses the wide wild wood in empty serenity Wise old trees held down by white crystal prisons Bleak monochrome silhouettes against the cold crying sky Still and quiet shout across the desolate panorama Eager icicles feel their way blindly to the depths Austere white flakes flutter to the ground like icy butterflies Its uniqueness lost in a sea of similarity and camaraderie Yellow rays dwindle into memory and darkness reclaims all Distant suns shine their pity down on the night Eternal loneliness shrouds the unmoving moonlit landscape Mr Burrett - January 2010

My Winter The soft white snow melts gently I race down the hill And end up on the beach I run back up the hill I sit at the top of the hill And watch the water come in and out I see some friends We have a snow ball fight I feel the soft white snow in my hand Just like it was a cloud The smell of the salty water I see the icicles are as sharp as knives The trees must be sad because they must be so cold The cars must be scared because the road is slippery I slowly go back home I get into dry clothes. By Adam

The Wintry Street The snow pouring down on the ground Children playing in the streets Icicles all around The snow as soft as cotton wool Heavy straining clouds dropping snow People admiring the snowmen The cars slipping and sliding down the street Trees block the children’s way The ground as hard as rock The sky looks like it is falling By Anthony

Winter Lane I see the stream, frozen in time Snow blanketing the frost bitten crops The trees stretch their branches Freeing themselves from their icy prisons All the bushes so delicate and beautiful The snow as soft as cotton wool Nothing to break the silence So peaceful and quiet No one there, but silence By Ben

Snowy Snow It’s snowing, it’s snowing The snow flakes are falling My family is building a snowman today It’s no surprise that the road is icy The children are skating Snowmen and snowballs everywhere When it snows it’s fun The school is closed When it gets too cold We sit next to the fire Dreaming what it would be like If I were a snowman By Charlize

Winter Street The icicles drip as the snow melts away The children go in as there is nothing to play The ground is still so cold So slippery outside The frost on the trees is melting away The snow has almost gone The children are very sad But it’s not that too bad After all the snow had gone The children have come back out to play But it didn’t really matter The snow would come back another day By Darci

Winter poem The snow as soft as the clouds The tree looks angry with the snow on his shoulders Children playing in the snow with laughter Icicles as hard as stone You can hear the choir singing The sky as white as paper Frozen cars and frozen roads People indoors having a warm hot chocolate Feel of the crunchy snow when walking You can smell the freezing breeze Children making igloos Mums cooking roast dinners The plants drop the snow The wind blows a blizzard The animals in their shelters Waiting for the sun to shine again By Elise

Out My Window I see children playing with snowballs Snowmen and sledges I hear children happily laughing As I touch the dewy window I take a sip of my hot chocolate Calm and warm inside my house The freezing frosty flakes falling Covering the icy growing ground The bare trees with no leaves By Elliot

Mountain Day The soft snow falls gently on my glove I see icicles in the dark gloomy caves The wind blows in my face I hear wolves howling in the distant mountains Kids making snowmen and having snowball fights I hear the wind whistling in my ear Children screaming and shouting like monkeys The snow is falling off the trees fast and happily

The Snowy Mountain As I climb the last of the soft, shivering snow I hear the wind whistling in my ears I have climbed the bleak mountain I walked to see the frosty trees Bare trees leave a small frozen pathway The sky whirling like a blizzard Sweeping across the sky Swooping robins meet each other above my head Little cottages of the mountain Keeping with candles and fires No one in sight Not a foot step to be seen The ground is shivering No one else, only me.
