Dartington Morris Men Morris Ring Meeting Totnes and around South Devon
In celebration of the 40th Anniversary of their formation at Dartington Hall in 1968, the Dartington Morris Men will be hosting a national Meeting of the Morris Ring, centred in Totnes, over the weekend Friday 5th to Sunday 7th September.

Sixteen Morris Sides from across England will be the guests of the local team for the 316th Meeting of the organisation, providing a lively weekend of dance, music and song.

On Saturday 6th, five separate Tours will leave Totnes around 9.30am, and visit the South Hams, Dartmoor, Teignbridge and Torbay, where public displays of dancing will take place in many towns and villages throughout the day.

With this quote from Shakespeare’s ‘Tempest’, Consortium5 invites you to join them on an exploration of the treasures of Elizabethan and Jacobean music for recorders. Consortium5 were formed when Kathryn Corrigan, Inga Maria Klaucke, Oonagh Lee, Gail Macleod and Roselyn Maynard were still students at the Royal Academy of Music. As winners of the prestigious Deutsche Bank Pyramid Award for performance in 2006, they were able to buy a set of Renaissance consort recorders, featuring nine instruments in various shapes and sizes, stretching from descant to subbass, which is over six feet tall. This delightful programme of consort music demonstrates the versatility and finesse of the recorder - from timeless spirituality to artful counterpoint via the distinctive rhythms of Elizabethan dance music. The evening begins with a taste of local news stories from 2030, imagined and produced by Year 7 Kevicc students and introduced by Hannah Mulder, Co-ordinator of the Transition Tales Project. This will be followed by world travelled storyteller, Ashley Ramsden, who will tell 2 tales to inspire us: the chilling metaphor of ‘The Titanic’ and the inspiration of ‘The Man Who Planted Hope.’

The story of ‘The Titanic’ is still one of the most chilling metaphors for our time. Despite calm seas and repeated warnings of icebergs in her path this “ship of ships” sailed full steam ahead to her doom. Every day the news is full of the same story. We know that we are devastating our environment, we know that we have to live differently if we are to survive and yet what difference can any of us make against such odds? On board ‘The Titanic’, if one person had grasped the inevitable consequences of what lay ahead, the whole disaster could have been diverted.....are we still in the same boat?
Performed by Ashley as the second part of an evening alongside ‘The Titanic’, this 20th century parable portrays how the work of one man can transform a barren wasteland into a life-giving “green” environment for generations to come Ashley Ramsden is the founder and director of the School of Storytelling at Emerson College. Ashley has travelled the world telling stories. He pioneered the speaking of Rumi’s poetry in the UK and has collaborated with musicians and poets including Helen Chadwick and Robert Bly.
This event will be followed by the World Premiere of the Transition Tales Films to a specially invited audience at the Ariel Centre on Tuesday 25th September 7 – 9pm.

A gig of two halves! The first shorter set features the Lewis Riley Trio with Lewis on piano, Pat Butterly on bass and Dave Sheen on drums. They play music drawn from the standard jazz repetoire influenced by Oscar Peterson, Amad Jamal, Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett. The second half sees an expanded Lewis Riley Big Band from 12 to 16 musicians playing some originals from Lewis, jazz standards and Latin American Favourites.

Born Hectic Events are proud to present the culmination of all three heats of the Buskers and Street Entertainers Competition 2008 at one fantastic occasion to find this year’s overall winners and runners. Featuring...
GLORIOUS CHORUS & YES SIR BOSS!!! These two great acts will perform immediately after the winners are announced at approx 6.30pm. We have presented forty five acts over four months at three different locations to large audiences in order to give an opportunity to all comers and to prove that there is a depth and a wonderful wealth of talent waiting to be discovered and promoted. So the search to find the best Buskers and Street Performers in the South West is now nearly over.
Runners up will be offered free recording at a local recording studio, a nightclub show on Plymouth’s Barbican, a performance at the Port Eliot Lit Fest, air time on BBC Radio Cornwall and a promotional photo shoot. The Grand Final will open to the public at 11a.m. and the competition will start at 1p.m. Judges decision will be at 6pm. Glorious Chorus and Yes Sir Boss will perform in the evening starting at 6.30 pm. Along with The Grand Final will be a large and interesting selection of Market Stalls, traders and food stalls, a licensed bar and children’s rides
There will be a total of 15 acts at the Grand Final to find the very best of the best. The judges will be given the chance to select the performers they believe to be the most talented in the whole region. The first prize is a guaranteed performance at The Glastonbury Festival 2009. Last year’s winners The Carrivick Sisters have just performed to a standing ovation at this year’s festival.

Baba Yaga is a powerful and recurring figure in Russian folklore. She lives in the darkness of the night, in the blackness of the void, deep in the forest, in a hut lit by the fires in the glaring eyes of skulls. She is both good and bad, life and death, time and timeless. This tale tells of a young girl sent deep into the forest to get fire from Baba Yaga and in so doing learns how to use her intuition and wisdom. This is an exciting and fiery show steeped in archetypal imagery. The performance is primarily for adults but is also suitable for children over 8 years.
