NOVEMBER 17-18 AT BLUE DIAMOND MX PARK SATURDAY – 50CC, PEE WEE AND YOUTH 50cc @ 12:00pm for 45 min. then Pee Wee @ 1:30pm for 1 hour (approximately 2 mile course). Youth @ 3:00pm for 1 1/2 hours (approximately 5 mile course) using the mx track, supermoto through amusement park, woods trail and dirt flat track.
SUNDAY – MAIN EVENT FOR A, B AND C CLASSES C Class, Masters, Golden Masters, Sportman, B Super Seniors @ 10:00am for 1 1/2 hours. the decision to only print MRA every other month. That’s six issues a year, beginning with the February issue and printing every other month after that. You’ll see a little different format as well. Let’s face it, with the introduction of social media and all of the info that’s readily available on the web, many times the information that we bring you is already old news. Not that it’s bad, it’s just outdated. So in the new year, look to see things like race results on our website. That will free up some space to do more rider interviews and human interest stories in the paper. Look for things in our pages that you’ll be able to do in the upcoming months, rather than just reading about things that have already happened. Maybe we can even throw in some technical or fitness articles, tips that can help you become a better racer. As always we love feedback, so drop us an email on our website and let us know what you would like to see. Stay tuned, it’s a work in progress, and I’ll ask for your patience and support as this old race dog figures it all out. Well, I guess that’s it for now. Well, it seems that I have to get a lot into this column this month, so here goes. First off, I’ll start with my well wishes. I’d like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas, because those are my beliefs. If you believe in something else, then I’ll say Happy Holidays to you. I’d like to also thank everyone for reading this year and say that I hope to see you all back in the new season. It should be exciting. The breaking news is that this will be the last issue that we print in 2012, and our next will be in February of 2013 just prior to Motorama. The first issue of the new year will preview Motorama events and will feature the champions from all of the 2012 awards banquets. So many times I’ve heard in my life – “If it ain’t broke, then don’t fix it.” I never was a strong believer in that message, however, so I need to tell you all about a change. In the same token, I don’t believe that MRA was “broke” or that it needed fixin’, but we did need to make some changes. I’m not sure about prior to 2002 when I took over the reins, but ever since then we have printed 10 issues a year. Surely, there is enough racing to support that, and you, the readers, can definitely “take that” easily, probably more if we offered. But in the new economy and due to other related duties, we have made

43rd Annual Blue-Gray Del. State Championship Blue Diamond MX • September 22-23, 2012 • By: Bill Kaster On the 22nd and 23rd of September, I made my way down to Blue Diamond Motocross Park for the 43rd Annual BlueGray race. The Blue-Gray race is put on by the Baltimore County Trail riders Association. These guys and gals are a group of likeminded riders consisting of District 7 board members and even AMA Congressmen, who are dedicated to preserving the sport of motorcycle riding and racing. With the majority of their profits going to many different charities, this is one awesome association. They hold events every year, from trail rides to flat track racing, hare scrambles, and motocross races. This race is the longest running race east of the Mississippi, and possibly even in the whole United States. The Blue-Gray race started back in the 1960s and has drawn large crowds for years. The race has attracted many Pro and National champions, such as Travis Pastrana (who they made start backwards at the gate just to keep it fair), to the sandy tracks of Delaware. This weekend as well pulled in a bunch of riders. Some of the great locals, along with many others, came out to experience this awesome, prestigious race. The track was soft to say the least, with the majority of the dirt being sand; it led to wide variety of grooves. This allowed the riders to choose many different lines and created some real good racing. As did its high flying center piece, the Intimidator, an 80-foot table top that was just about as tall as it was long. Talk about some hang time! Nothing quite like watching guys and gals launch off that thing and just hang in the air for what seemed like a minute. Even the little guys on the 65cc bikes were airing it out! It was a perfect weekend for racing. With beautiful weather Saturday, a heavy thunderstorm Saturday night to wet the track, and another beautiful but much more autumnlike day on Sunday. What a great way to spend a weekend in Delaware. If you have not experienced a Blue-Grey race yet, it just may be something you want to schedule in for next year.

First up, I would like to give some thanks: first to Jere Swarr (sleepyhollow.com) for hosting the event, Greg Pamart (gpmx.com) for the trophy, George Fanelli (mps frames) for a custom frame build, and Tom Weaver (depppipes. com) and Paul Waslin (allballsracing.com). I’d also like to thank Chris Boltz (boltzrv) for bringing some extra 116s and the guys who brought out their pre-80 two strokes, in addition to all those that came. There’s something about the sound of 25 two strokes leaving the gate, but I’m getting ahead of myself. As I was walking around, I couldn’t help noticing the EVO bikes, all sweet, including Yamies, RMs, Penton, and the Big Red, Kawie 400. It was nice to see that people are preserving a little bit of history. Back to racing. As I looked down the gate sheet of who was racing in A, it was like a Who’s Who of

who you don’t want to race: young, not so young, pro, and vet. Man, if you’re going to win this one, you better have brought your A game. If you didn’t come, shame on you. Did you think this was a couple of local guys on some old two strokes? No, my friend, think again. Big coin, this was anyone’s game. Bikes, 311 entries. They came from Arkansas, Kentucky, Canada, Virginia. Oh yeah, this is gonna get good real fast. Bottom line, the day would be Mike McDade’s day. For the 125 and 250, he was in the zone, out front and on cruise control, just makin’ it look easy. Back in the pack, not so easy - 2nd and 3rd, 6th and 7th, I don’t care. Wherever I looked it was bike on bike, no rest. Thank you, A class, for showing us how it’s done, and congratulations, Mike. This was a win to remember. B wasn’t to be outdone either. 250B Schae Thomas on the 14 KTM with a 1-2 took it, followed by Mccarren with a 4-1, and Kirk Ryan with a 3-4. There was some heat right behind these guys, it’s called 125B. Daryn Thompson on the yellow 87 took it with a 1-1, followed by Trevor Shaffer with a 3-2, and Trentin Herrinton with a 4-3. 250C belonged to Michael Hartensueld on the 913, who got the overall with a 2-1. Brandon Ison got 2nd with a 1-3, followed by Cole Bryan with a 4-2. 125C Bowman with a 4-2, Tibberino with a 3-3, and Hartensueld with a 2-4 rounded it out. Cody Summers with a 1-5 took fourth. I know two guys that were watching Mike McDade, one was Chase Yentzer. He came out on the16 and won the 65 7-9, then won the 85 9-11 on the 316. The other was Cole Bader on the white 5C with a 1-1 in the 50 stock and a 1-1 in 50 open. Both were on fire, great racing, guys. In 25 plus, it was Clark, King, and Russler. In 30 plus, it was Frenchie, Reitz and Russler. In 30B, Boltz, Schaufele and Haight, and in 35B, Stewart, Gruber, and Boltz. In the minis, Yamaha, Shock and Shine is all you need to know. Cody Wagner got a big third. Thanks again to all those that came. Miss Lohiser, I lived in West Seneca, so I know the drive you put in. To those who came down from Quebec, “merci.” At one point, I had to sit down, I thought I saw Chuck Aughinbaugh on a #1 Kawi, or was that Villopoto? Mike Cepress on a Yamaha? Man, I had to sit down. And that’s the way I saw it.

ALL-STAR NATIONAL FLAT TRACK SERIES 1st ANNUAL ARMIN HOSTETTER CLASSIC TRAIL-WAY SPEEDWAY • Texter Takes Trail-Way All Star Race • By Len & Ben Breech • HANOVER, Pa. - SEP. 28 Cory Texter put his Engelhart R & T/RLT Racing/Herrs/Invisible Glass backed Honda in front on the third (and official) start of the Expert Singles final. He pulled away as professional racing returned to Trail-Way Speedway for the first time since 1975 with the running of the Armin Hostetter Classic All Star National Flat Track Series. The race is named for the builder and owner of the 1/3-mile banked clay oval, former racer Armin Hostetter. The Pro Single final was won by Nick Henderson over fellow Marylanders Jason Isennock and Mike Poe. With heavy rains overnight, many riders worried that the event would either be canceled, or they would be greeted with a damp, heavy track. Neither occurred, and the track was, in the opinion of many regular riders here, the best they have seen it in a few years. Texter took the lead on the first start, but Evan Baer slid out off two on the second lap, bringing out the red. Chris Carr grabbed the second start lead, but a four rider first turn crash brought out the red again. Texter took the lead again on the third attempt, with Carr, J. D. Beach, Johnny Lewis and Jeff Carver behind. That Lewis was even in the final was amazing, as his Honda suffered an electrical malfunction in his heat. Nick Henderson lent him his bike for the semi that let him punch his ticket to the final. Carr stayed close in the early laps in a replay of their heat before Texter started to pull away. Lewis started pressuring Beach for third by the fourth lap. That battle brought them closer to Carr in the later laps, as Carr started to tire. Just past the halfway mark, Beach got by Carr, with Lewis getting by on the next lap. By this time, Texter was cruising to almost a straight margin at the end. The Pro Single final looked like any Expert final at a regular Trail-Way race over the past few years, as Henderson took the lead from Jason Isennock, Mike Poe, Jake Shoemaker and Shayna Texter. With Isennock in contention for the MotorcycleSuperstores.com Pro Singles title, his Honda was on the left coast for Sunday’s Santa Rosa National, but he found a ride on the USC Kawasaki and really adapted to the new machine. As the laps went on, the top five started to spread out, with a fifteen yard margin between each of the top riders. As with any All Star event, there were several amateur support races, with Justin Jones taking a pair, including the 450 Amateur and Open Amateur finals over Jared Vanderkooi in both classes. In the 450, Tristan Avery, on a 250 Honda, slotted in third, with Matt Schwartz and Kevin
Bills behind. After a slow start, Junior Addison started picking off riders. By halfway, he was into fourth as the field started to spread out. The Open was very similar, with the same riders on basically the same machines. Jones took the lead from Vanderkooi, Addison and Schwartz. In the late laps, Colby Carlile started pressuring Schwartz for fourth, but came up short. Brandon Price jumped out in front of the 250 Amateur, with Ryan Varnes, Mike Mesler, Carlile, Dalton Gauthier and Avery close behind. Avery shot into fourth off two on the second lap as a battle ensued over second. Varnes bobbled on the fourth lap, dropping to fifth. In the slight confusion with Varnes’ bobble, Avery grabbed second and started to cut into Price’s margin, but came up short. After having his Rotax break in practice, Varnes’ dad, Kevin, used the Suzuki Ryan ran in the 450 class. He took the lead from Roy Miller, Jerry Steele and Rich Mellinger. With Varnes gradually pulling away, Steele moved up to challenge Miller over the late laps.

ALL-STAR NATIONAL FLAT TRACK SERIES RANDY TEXTER MEMORIAL • YORK FAIRGROUNDS • Texter Takes Texter Memorial at York Half Mile • By Len & Ben Breech • YORK, PA. SEP. 29 Cory Texter took the Expert Singles final in the Randy Texter Memorial Race when the White Rose Motorcycle Club brought back professional motorcycle racing to the York Fairgrounds as part of their White Rose Thunder. Matt Weidman took the largest portion of the $20,000 purse with his win in the Expert Twin final on his Scott Powersports Kawasaki. He also won the added Dash for Cash event. Cory’s more famous sibling, Shayna, almost made it a double family victory in the event named for their late father, but fell just after taking the lead off a restart of the Pro Single final. The event was the final event of 2012 for Steve Nace’s All-Star National Flat Track Series, and it set a series record of over 160 entries. With several Experts and many of the officiating crew scheduled to be at the AMA National at Santa Rosa, Calif., the following afternoon, it was hoped to get things wrapped up by 5 p.m. so they could catch their redeye flight to the West Coast. While the 27 heats and nine semis put a crimp in those plans, the crew did run the show in a very efficient manner. Like he had done the previous night at Trail-Way Speedway, Texter jumped into the Expert Singles lead with J. D. Beach, Chris Carr, Jeff Carver, Raun Wood and Shawn Baer pursuing. Carver got by Carr off two on the third lap, but surrendered third in the same spot the following lap when he fell. Brandon Robinson moved up to challenge Baer and Wood for fourth that eventually went to Wood on the sixth lap. Wood displaced Carr for the final podium spot on the final lap. With the program running a little behind, they moved the Expert Twins final to the fourth final, right after the Pro Singles final, to allow riders the chance to head to the airport. Beach led Weidman, Corey Crawford, Carver, Chad Cose and Ben Evans out of the second turn. After following the USC Kawasaki rider for a few laps, Weidman put his Scott Powersports Kawasaki in the lead as they entered one on the sixth lap. By halfway, the top five were set with the Kawasakis of Weidman, Beach and Crawford starting to pull away from the Harleys of Carver and Brandon Robinson. Mike Poe and Shayna Texter. Texter moved into third at the end of the first lap and took the lead into three on the fourth lap. The red came out on the sixth lap for a rider down in three. Connelly again nailed the restart over Texter, Poe and Minor, but Shayna fell in four, with Dan Bromley among the ones joining in. On the last restart, Poe led the field out of four, with Connelly, Cory Strickler and John Long battling for second. A few laps later, Bromley made his presence known in this battle as they fought to the finish. Long took second over Bromley and Connelly on the final lap. Jared Vanderkooi and Junior Addison traded wins, with Vanderkooi taking the 450 Amateur over Addison and Addison reversing it in the Open Amateur. Vanderkooi led Addison, Ryan Varnes, Michael Mesler and Justin Jones. The order stayed the same until the last lap when Varnes dropped out. Vanderkooi again led the Open over Addison, but Addison took the lead as they entered one on the second lap, and they started to pull away from the Kevin Bills, Justin Jones and Matt Schwartz battle for third that went to Bills over Jones. Tristan Avery grabbed the 250 Amateur final and checked out. Colby Carlile, Dalton Gauthier and Brandon Price followed. Gauthier slipped back slightly on the second lap, with Brody Miller moving into fourth. Price took second off two on the sixth lap. Scott Stump was first off two in the 30 + final with Rick Winsett, Tom Majeski, Dallas Baer and Brody Miller in tow. Winsett put the bike he borrowed from John Long into the lead as they entered one on the fifth lap, with Baer taking third off two on the following lap. Shane Livingston and Jerry Steele battled for the lead in the Vintage final. Livingston led Steele, Chad Stewart, Jim Gately and Rick Washak, with Steele taking the lead as they started the fourth lap. Steele looked like a winner until Livingston mounted a late charge, taking the lead off the final turn. Doublin Gap MX Newburg, PA • Sept. 29-30, 2012 • By: Jim Bull Photo.com The final weekend in September took us to the Doublin Gap Motocross Park just north of Shippensburg, Pa. The morning brought sunny skies with just a light breeze in the air. As the day progressed, however, the sun disappeared and the rains filled the sky. The race count was light, but the faithful hung in there and did what they came to do. Just before the end of the first set of motos, the rains came, and they stayed on and off for the rest of the day. Pagoda Big Bucks Race and Women’s Open October 12 – 14, 2012 • Birdsboro, PA • By: Jim Bull Photo.com Mid-October took us back to the Pagoda Motorcycle Club for their 5th Annual Big Bucks Race and 2nd Annual Women’s Open. There was a lot of hype leading up to the event, with huge purses offered for both the expert riders and the Women’s division. To make it all the more exciting, there were Pro Am points, lots of prizes and contingencies and lots of practice time available on the weekend. In addition, the crew at Pagoda threw in some awesome track changes, making this an event not to miss. I wasn’t able to make it for the practice days, so I arrived early Sunday morning to the usual packed parking areas. I wasn’t sure what to expect as Pagoda always seems to pull a good crowd, but the last few weekends around the region have seen smaller than normal turnouts. All seemed to be well, however, as we marched towards the end of the season, with the rider count close to 500 and almost two full gates of expert riders and 21 girls on the gate. The day was exciting as gate after gate dropped with some of the best in the business in the house. There were podium interviews, a hospitality tent for industry folks, and tons of vendors lined the pits. It was a great event to begin the wind down of the 2012 season. Props go out to all the sponsors, riders and of course the Pagoda club members for making it all a reality. The Last Race
Chaplain’s Corner
As most of you read this, you will have already raced your last race for the 2012 season. You’ve loaded your bikes or quads for the last time. The starting gate has dropped for the last time and if you didn’t already know, this is the last issue of MRA for the 2012 season. I realize these things will start again next year, but for now, it’s done. But what does it mean, last? Last- occurring or coming after all others, being the only one remaining. For 2012, I believe the last things listed above line up with those definitions. Sometimes I feel somber when things happen for the last time. I did the last chapel at Doublin Gap for 2012, a bit of sadness. The last day at motocross camp, a bit of sadness. I could go on. Maybe I am too sentimental. What about you? Do you realize this is the last life you get to live? While it’s the first life or the only life, it’s also the last life. It fits the second definition: it’s the only life remaining for you. Does that change how you live your life? Does knowing this is your last life cause you to shift, like I wrote about back in the April issue of MRA? In the last book of the Bible, Revelation, in the last chapter of Revelation, 22, verse 17, we find the last invitation in the Bible, “The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come.’” I wonder how many have never accepted an invitation from Jesus to come, to come to Him for salvation. With that in mind, every person should remember this could be your last day in your physical body. Your first life, your only life, your last life, will continue in eternity. Jesus gave many invitations in the Bible for people to come to Him, and the invitations continue today through people like myself. If you accept the invitation, your last life will continue forever with Jesus and with the many who have accepted the invitation and gone before us to be with Him. If you decline the invitation, your last life will continue forever in eternal hell. You never know when an invitation could be your last. Know this: No one is righteous. Romans 3:10 Everyone has sinned. Romans 3:23 The payment for sin is death, separation from God. Romans 6:23 Jesus died for us as sinners. Romans 5:8 You can be saved from death, eternal death by believing in Jesus. Romans 10:9 and 10 I urge you, come to Jesus. Accept His invitation. Make your last life a new life in Jesus, and God willing, this won’t be the last time you hear from me. MRA caught up this month with local pro racer and entrepreneur Cory Texter. Texter has just launched a new action sports apparel line, and we wanted to get the scoop.
MRA: So tell us a little bit about Defy All Odds Apparel and how you came about it

Texter: I have had a strong passion for clothing and style for a long time now. I wanted

to produce something that was affordable with an original style that people weren’t used to seeing. I also wanted to connect with people and give them a belief they could wear. I named it Defy All Odds Apparel after my Dad, who passed away in 2010. He defied so many odds in his life, and I thought this was a good way to [pay] tribute [to] him.
MRA: How long has Defy All Odds Apparel been in existence, and did you expect the early success you are having thus far?
Texter: I started planning for it all the beginning of summer. However, I didn’t release
the first line of clothing until the end of July. It started as just a hobby, really. I only planned to do one or two shirts in the first couple months and have fun with it. The demand for the clothing has grown significantly in the first 2 1/2 months. It has been really cool seeing everyone support the brand and helping me grow it. I have big goals and plans for the company, and I can only see it growing from here.
MRA: What kind of apparel to you offer to your customers? Texter: Right now, we have four men’s tee designs, two female tee designs, a youth
tee, a female tank top, two hoodie designs, two hat designs, and we offer smaller promotional items such as lanyards and stickers. Like I said, I only wanted to do one male tee and one female tee in the first couple months, but the fans have been asking for more goods, so I continue to produce them.
MRA: You have a strong racing background, coming from a well-known racing family. Tell us about the involvement Defy All Odds Apparel has with the racing community.
Texter: Yeah, for sure. I wouldn’t be where I am today without motorcycle racing. I started Team DAO shortly after I launched the company. I have some solid riders on the team helping me grow it. 2010 and 2011 Champion Jake Johnson, Brandon Robinson and Shayna Texter are my Pro Flattrack riders. AMA SuperSport Champion James Rispoli, JD Beach, PJ Jacobsen, Eric Stump, and Zach Herrin are the Pro Road Race guys I help out. Kenny Venarchick reps the MX scene and Pro #1 Nate Redmann reps in AMA Pro Hillclimb. I feel the talent of the riders we sponsor are as good as any company out there, and they are all great people, which is more important than any good result.
