Installing solar panels on the average house would usually cost up to £8,000 but Energy Save Ltd is offering home-owners the chance to get the panels for free. return on the excess energy they sell back to the national grid. “The uptake for this has been phenomenal,” says Steve Tobin, managing director of Energy Save Ltd which is based in Wavertree. “We’ve currently got 100 advisors across the country signing people up. People are in effect renting their roof out but in return they get 25 years worth of free electricity in the daytime.” “Once installed it takes about two months to realise the
difference. People might have to change the way they do things a little. For example we advise people to use the washing machine during the day, when they won’t be charged for it,” says Wyn Hughes, energy advisor at Energy Save Ltd. There are some restrictions on who can get free solar panels, the property has to be your own home or if you are renting you need the permission of the landlord. You must have more than 20
square metres of space free on your roof and it must be south facing and free from overlooking trees.
