EARLY CHILDHOOD FAMILY EDUCATION PROGRAMS (ECFE) ECFE COURSES Parents are a child’s first and most important teacher. ECFE classes support parents in this role by strengthening their parenting skills and providing activities to help their child grow and develop. Classes meet once a week for two hours or less and are offered during the day, in the evening and on Saturdays. Most classes include a parent education time facilitated by a licensed parent education teacher that focuses on research-based topics related to child and parent development; a parent-child interaction time where parents and children, guided by a licensed early childhood teacher, can experience play-and-learn activities, sing songs and listen to stories; and a children’s learning time where children continue to learn with the early childhood teacher while parents participate in their parent education time. Quality child care is provided on-site for a fee for siblings not enrolled in class. Class fees are based on a sliding fee schedule and no family is turned away for inability to pay. Watch for the Ready, Set, Grow brochure, mailed to all households with children ages 0-5, for more detailed class information. Important ECFE Dates: • Online registration begins at 8 a.m. August 1. Upon registering, families will be placed in a queue until the random computer-generated lottery is held on August 14 at noon. • Fall classes begin on Sept. 13, 2019. Classes are located at: Early Childhood Education Center 500 10th St NW New Brighton MN 55112 Pike Lake Education Center 2101 14th St NW New Brighton MN 55112 Snail Lake Education Center 350 Highway 96 W Shoreview, MN 55126 Beginning this fall only Mounds View Public Schools residents may register for classes.

2019-2020 Preschool Classes ECFE offers half-day two-, three-, four- or five-days-a-week preschool classes for children 2½-5 years of age at all three sites. Some classes include a parenting component and some classes include optional busing. Although registration for these classes took place in February 2019, there are a limited number of spots available. For more information visit www.moundsviewschools.org/earlychildhood. 2019-2020 Play and Learn Preschool Classes Play and Learn provides two-, three- or five-days-a-week halfday preschool classes and free busing to qualifying families. Families must have an income at or below $65,000 per year, have one or more identified risk factors and complete all registration forms-including proof of income. Applications are being accepted now for the 2019-2020 school year. For an application or for more information contact Sharon Savard at 651-621-7422. 2020-2021 Important Preschool Dates • 2020-2021 Preschool Classes Online registration for 2020-2021 preschool classes will begin at 9 a.m. on February 4, 2020. Information about specific classes will be in the winter/spring Community Education catalog. • 2020-2021 Early Childhood Preschool Information Nights Early Childhood Preschool Information Nights will be held on January 21, 2020, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Early Childhood Education Center and on January 23, 2020, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Snail Lake Education Center.

EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENTAL SCREENING Early Childhood Developmental Screening is a quick and simple check of how a child is growing and developing. It is required by the State of Minnesota before a child attends kindergarten to detect possible health or learning concerns so that children can get helpful services before they start kindergarten. It is recommended that children attend screening at 3½ year of age. At the one-hour screening, a licensed school professional will check the child’s vision, hearing, height and weight, large and small muscle skills, social and emotional development, thinking, language and communication skills and immunization status. All screenings are done at the Pike Lake Education Center September-June. Call 651-621-7421 to schedule an appointment.
