Peace and Children Okinawa 70 Years after the WWII 石井氏が感じた戦後７０年の沖縄

0 years have passed since the end of the WWII. 87 additional new names have been engraved into the memorial cornerstones of [the Foundation of Peace] located in the Peace Memorial Monument Park in Itoman city, Okinawa last month. The total number of war victims in Okinawa during the war whose names engraved on the stones are 241,336 as of this year. The memorial service for those lost has been held on June 23 each year at the Park. In last year’s memorial service, Masuda Takeru, a 3rd grade student of Makira Elementary School in Ishigaki City was chosen for his poem to be read loud which is entitled [The Sky Is Connected] The expression In his poem goes as below; Even though the sky is connected / why ? / Up to where is peace? / From where is war? I don’t see the border line of sky above peace and war / wonder how an eternal sky with no war can be? wonder how we can see the bright blue sky with no war under?… Will our smiles be connected to the skies far away? / Will our gentle feelings and peaceful hearts encircle around earth? / as a child, I can only pray for the children of the world. / Praying that all the children in the world / Can go to school / Can play with their friends together/ and family members can eat together with smile… In Okinawa the [Post-War Period] is still not over. Even to this day, there are still many unknown names whose lives were lost in the war. Many unknown names of babies and children are engraved on the memorial stones like “ third daughter of M family”. Every time I visit the Peace Memorial Park, I would look at some of those engraved names and imagine those lives of the lost deeply. As often as I imagine of sacrifice and suffering, pain, and sadness they had to go through, I come to the realization that whatever it takes, we must keep talking about the importance of building peace for children of future.

までの 「平和の礎」 刻銘者は２４万１３３６人となっています。 この平和記念 公園において、 毎年６月２３日には沖縄戦没者追悼式が行われています。 昨 年の追悼式において石垣市真喜良小学校３年生の増田健琉 （たける） 君が 「 空はつながっている」 と題して詩の朗読をしました。 彼はその詩の中で、 （一部抽出） 「そらはつながっているのにどうしてかな どこまでが平和で どこからが せんそうなんだろう どうしたら せんそうのない どこまでも続く青 いそらになれるのかな （中略） えがおとえがおが遠くの空までつながるのか な やさしい気もちが 平和の心が 丸い地球をぐるっと一周でき るかな まだ子どものぼくは 祈る事しかできない どうか世界中 の子どもたちみんなが 学校にいけますように ともだちとあそべますよ うに にこにこわらって 家族でごはんが食べれますように （中略） 」 と書 いています。 沖縄においては未だ、 「戦後」 は終結していません。 未だに多くの無名戦没 者の名前も判らないままです。 多くの子どもや乳幼児は名前が不明で 「〇〇 の３女」 のように刻銘されています。 私は何度もこの平和記念公園を訪れ、 刻まれた名前を一つ一つ想いを込めて見てきました。 この人たちはいったい どんな思いで戦争の犠牲となったのだろう。 どんな苦しみ、 痛み、 悲しみを経 験したのだろう。 そう思うとこの人たちの犠牲を無駄にしてはいけない、 今の 子どもたちに平和をつくることの大事なことを語っていかなければいけない と再認識するのです。

fter all, it is a national park. There are so many interesting spots to see. There is no way I could visit all of them in just one day. This national park is as large as the Oahu island of Hawaii. They also have a number of trails and just trekking one of the trails would take up a day. Anyhow, highlights like active volcanos remind me that the Earth is indeed a living thing. After all, I think Hawaii is one of the most proud national parks in the world.

Orange Shrimp (for 4 ser vings)
12 shrimp 1 tsp salt 12 asparagus 2 tbsp sake 1 or 2 kumquat Potato starch 4 tbsp KIKKOMAN ORANGE SAUCE
<1> Peel and devein shrimps. Sprinkle with salt and sake and let it stand for a while. Dry the shrimps with a paper towel and then dust with potato starch. <2> Heat the oil to 170°C (338 °F) and fry the shrimps for a minute an half. Toss with the orange sauce. <3> Plate them with boiled asparagus and kumquat slices.

Super Dry Suijin’s Sake Meter Value (SMV) is a +10 which is super dry. Regularly, very dry sake is typically in the Honjozo class which they added extra alcohol. However, this sake is a Junmai where it is pure rice and water which is very unique for this dryness. This sake’s finish is sharp and dry with a very strong rice aroma. The dry taste is contributed from the high acidity levels of the beverage. Great fish such as tuna or yellowtail or lighter meats like chicken or pork, makes the perfect pairing.
