Founded by directors Martin Nixon and Lee Evans in 2013, New Vehicle Solutions has spent the past nine years building a strong reputation and stable customer base in the world of commercial leasing. Three years ago they took the next step in their evolution by acquiring premises on Bridgend’s Tremains Road and establishing a showroom to allow them to not only lease vehicles, but to also retail new and used vehicles to businesses and the general public.

On the busiest road in Bridgend, locals Nixon and Evans rebuilt a dilapidated unit to house 30 vehicles, along with offces for staff and facilities for visitors. The business, they say, is centred on the acquisition of good stock that will be coming back to the company every three to four years through part exchange. Through this plan, New Vehicle Solutions looks to create a constantly replenishing used stock of quality vehicles.

And leasing is on the up. The proportion of drivers saying they will opt for fnance, leasing or renting for their next vehicle has increased by 15%.

Why did you move to a new site?

We started as an e-commerce offce. From there we built up a customer base and the team expanded accordingly to cope with it. Now we are fnding that over a two or three year cycle customers are coming back, which is great. They’ve got a good product to bring back, so we thought this is something we can look to sell on or lease out.

We have gradually been building the business to get to the point where we are now able to retail the returned vehicles ourselves. The big advantage this gives us is that if one of our existing customers wants to part exchange a vehicle, we can actually give the customer a little bit more because we do not need to trade. This provides a greater appeal to come back, It is a win, win.

It took around two years to fnd our premises and it is probably a lot bigger than we frst anticipated, or even needed. It was expensive, but it’s in a prime location on probably the busiest road in Bridgend. We are now rubbing shoulders with giants such as Sinclair Volkswagen and Audi.

Is there anything unique about the dealership that keeps people coming back? What is quite unique is that we have encapsulated both the brokerage and the dealership elements. We are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and are directly registered with them as licensed credit brokers. We can offer brand new vehicles on contract hire and hire purchase.

Therefore the brokerage and the vehicle sales complement each other because we have used vehicle customers come in that sometimes decide on taking a new vehicle lease, and vice versa. When customers enter the dealership, some people are not fully aware of all the vehicles that we have available. So they might walk in thinking that they need a used Transit for example, but they then may see a brand new Transit they can actually afford on lease. And it works the other way around, meaning we capture both sides of the marketplace. Our relationship with the local industry is also useful when we have customers looking for something specifc that we may not have in stock.

We also offer cars even though our chief passion is commercial, but we are called New Vehicle Solutions not new van solutions. The reason for this is that when we build a relationship with a customer they may want to come back for their everyday vehicle, and we do not want to be pigeonholed into only being a source of vans. If a current customer says I need a car, can you get me a Mercedes AMG? The answer we want to be able to give is yes.
