PARK HYATT ABU DHABI HOTEL AND VILLAS
An island escape that feels almost international
We all know why we book a staycation, it’s to try and get as close to the real thing, even if just for a weekend, without leaving the country. So, in our eternal search for that convincingly ‘abroad’ feeling, we packed our car and headed up to Saadiyat Island. While the beachfront is well-known for its crystal-clear water, it really must be seen to be believed. The almost-Maldivian sea is the most perfect shade of light blue, and more than passes the ‘can you see the bottom?’ test.
We’re checking into Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi, where for just a weekend, we’ll be switching off from the hustle and bustle of city life and relaxing at this luxe beachfront hotel. Upon entering our room, a fresh coconut is waiting for us, and we quickly get comfortable on the balcony, taking in the oceanic air and calming sea view. It’s a spacious room with a king bed, large bathroom, and a walk-in wardrobe. The bed has been decorated with rose petals ahead of our arrival – it’s the little things.
The well-lit lobby is broad and modern, with an Arabian feel. In the evenings, a DJ takes centre stage to set the mood for the rest of the night. Over the mezzanine, guests can spy a huge infinity pool stretching out towards the beach.
The pristine sand beach is vast and lengthy, shared with a few other five-star resorts on the island. We would’ve liked the sun loungers to be placed a little closer to the ocean though, especially in peak summer when the floor becomes actual lava. The pool is a more convenient alternative, with plenty of chic cabanas surrounding it.
Home to Argentinian restaurant, Maté, Park Hyatt’s main sell is the two-storey Latin American concept, where guests can enjoy grilled dishes from the parrilla. In the morning, breakfast is served buffet-style at The Café. Other options include Shala Beach Lounge, The Beach House and The Library.
A king bed room with sea view starts at Dhs1,055 per night in June. The room includes a furnished private balcony overlooking the Arabian Gulf.
