to mark an official visit by senior executives to Kildangnan stud in Co. Kildare, Colm McLoughlin, EVC, DDF unveiled a falcon sculpture on the grounds. Commissioned by Kildangan, the home of Darleys’ Irish horseracing operation, and carved by sculptor James McLoughlin, the Falcon sculpture rises out from the remains of an oak tree which was struck down during a storm. the Cork-born artist was awarded the grinling gibbons scholarship at City and guilds of London art school, specializing in Historical Wood Carving. Colm McLoughlin said: “I am honoured to unveil this wonderful piece of art that has been expertly sculpted from the base of the oak.”

the coveted racing trophy was presented to the winner by the uaE ambassador to Ireland, HE Khalid Lootah; the Irish ambassador in the uaE, HE Patrick Hennessy; and DDF Executive Vice Chairman Colm McLoughlin together with other DDF senior officials. among the many events attracting attention off the track was the title of DDF Most stylish Lady, which went to Catriona Hanley: a glamorous fuchsia ensemble which included a jacket by greek designer Mary Katrantzou won her EuR20,000 (approximately Dhs100,000) worth of prizes, among which were a Dubai holiday at the five-star Jumeirah Creekside Hotel and EuR1000 (about Dhs5000) worth of shopping vouchers, all courtesy of DDF; and a 18-carat gold diamond pendent from Boodles. alongside the race, the DDF Irish Derby golf Classic also took place at the Palmer Ryder Cup course at the K Club, as did the DDF Irish Derby Ball, which this year raised EuR120,000 (approximately Dhs600,000) – including EuR20,000 (Dhs100,000) donated by DDF – for the Jack & Jill Children's Foundation. the funds will provide children across Ireland who suffer from brain damage and severe intellectual and physical developmental delay with 7,500 hours of care. among the items auctioned for charity were a VIP racing package with DDF to ascot, a trip to Dubai with stay in the Jumeirah Creekside Hotel, and a Waterford crystal egg designed by John Rocha. among the many well-known faces in attendance were tV personality Eddie Hobbs, politician Lucinda Creighton and broadcaster RtÉ’s tracy Piggott.
