The integration of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) in preschool education is now more important than ever before. If we want to raise our children as critical thinkers, problem solvers, scientists and world leaders, then we must change the way we think about early childhood education. The current focus on directional instruction versus a student-centred, self-exploratory model doesn’t allow for children to intellectually stimulate themselves. A holistic and well-rounded educational experience must be integrated across content areas. This is what The Cardinal Valley Nursery calls cross-contextual learning. The Nursery believes in having an open approach to early childhood education, one which leverages tools, resources, materials and the environment to let children learn and explore at their own terms. The Cardinal Valley has built a preschool STEAM and Virtual Reality Lab that helps give children uninterrupted time in an intellectually-stimulating area surrounded by microscopes, 3D printers, circuits, observation stations, manipulables and virtual reality headsets. Children have the liberty to experience how various curriculum elements come together to serve a greater purpose. The Cardinal Valley Nursery is welcoming parents to come and tour their facilities, and speak more about STEAM and their fully-integrated curriculum. The nursery is located in Jumeirah 3, and is currently accepting enrolments for its founding class in January 2018.
