G

eorge Dale, a native of Henderson, North Carolina, attended Vance Senior High in 1986. That is where he met Anthony Campbell, a fellow student, who introduced him to weightlifting. Campbell later became his friend and mentor. Since that moment he has been determined and dedicated to exceling in his field. In 1996, while representing Pong’s Fitness of Oxford, he competed at the NASA Competition. Dale won first place in the 148-weight lb. class with a recordbreaking bench of 303 lbs. A record that still stands to this day. In 1998, he met and befriended Roy Talley, owner of Hercules Gym of Warrenton. He represented The Hercules Power Team in numerous competitions. He has broken several national records many that are still groundbreaking. In 2006, Dale broke his first state and national records in the “Raw 181 lbs. Sub Master Division” with a bench of 415 lbs. He continued with that momentum into 2007. Once again he was able to break state and national records for bench pressing 405 lbs. in the “Raw 181 lbs. Open Division”. He won the national record in “Strict Curls” for 180 lbs. in the “Raw 181 lbs. Sub Master Division”. In 2008, he broke the record for “Strict Curls” for 150 lbs. in the “198 Division IBP Raw Bench Press” and “Strict Curl Championship”. Later on that same year he went on to compete in the “IBP Bench Press Classic” and “Strict Curl Championships” and broke the record with 175 lbs. in the “Raw 198 lbs. Division” breaking his own record.


Continues.... In addition to the wins in the Strict Curl Divisions, he also broke the State and National “Bench Press Record” of 400 lbs. in the “198 lbs. Divisions”. It became a family affair with his son, George Dale Jr., winning in the teen’s category the same day. He has also set records that haven’t been broken. Dale stayed away from weightlifting for 8 months due to a left triceps tear while attempting to break his own record in the “400 lbs. Bench Division”. However, that did not stop Dale. He started “Team Diesel Powerlifting” winning best powerlifting team. Dale continues to have a love and compassion for weightlifting that has led him to influence numerous people, included co-workers, teens, college athletes, and elders within the community. Dale has never met a stranger in the world of weightlifting. I plan to compete this year in the “198 lbs. Master Division” in bench and curl. Hopefully, to break a few records. I continue to train at Lifestyle Fitness in Butner, North Carolina. I love the old school gyms where you can go, drop weight, and yell at each other. In my opinion, many gyms have taken the fun away from lift by no dropping weights and no yelling. There are just too many rules in gyms today. I go to the gym to talk trash and have fun. Most of the time in my weight class I take first and I let whomever is competing against me take second cause first is mine. I tell guys that weightlifting is a mind thing. If you try to get strong to be the best you have to always come in the gym and give a 100% of your mind. If your mind is somewhere else you need to stay home. The mind and body has to connect. Continues.... “Lifting weights can increase your lean body mass, which increases the number of overall calories you burn during the day,” says Jacque Crockford, CSCS and spokesperson for the American Council on Exercise. Burning extra calories post-workout plus building muscle? That’s the surefire way to get the body you want. In recent research on overweight or obese adults (age 60 and over), the combination of a low-calorie diet and weight training resulted in greater fat loss than a combination of a lowcalorie diet and walking workouts, according to a 2017 study published in the journal Obesity. The adults who walked instead of weight trained did lose a comparable amount of weight—but a significant portion of the weight loss included lean body mass. Meanwhile, the adults who did strength training maintained muscle mass while losing fat. This suggests that strength training is better at helping people lose belly fat compared with cardio because while aerobic exercise burns both fat and muscle, weight lifting burns almost exclusively fat.
