BOURNEMOUTH, FEBRUaRy 14 (REUTERs): Sergio Aguero roared back into action for Manchester City, forcing a Tyrone Mings own goal and helping them move eight points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea with a 2-0 win at struggling Bournemouth on Monday. Aguero was once again left on the bench, amid speculation about his uncertain future at City, as Guardiola preferred his new Brazilian teenage sensation Gabriel Jesus. But after the youngster's fairytale start to life in English football was rudely interrupted by an early ankle injury, Aguero replaced him and took the opportunity to remind

everyone of his enduring quality after Raheem Sterling had put City ahead just before the half hour. In the 69th minute, the Argentine slid in to meet a cross from Sterling and, although it appeared Mings got the final touch for an own goal -- ultimately, a decision for the dubious goals committee -- no-one was going to persuade Aguero that he was not responsible for putting City two up. Prevailing in an entertaining contest at chilly Dean Court, City always looked likely to stake their claim as Chelsea's chief rivals for the title by moving back into second place in the table once Sterling

slotted in from close range in the 29th minute, soon after he had also hit the post. Bournemouth thought they had equalised through Josh King straight after Sterling's goal but the striker was penalised for tugging the shirt of John Stones in the build-up and Eddie Howe's men, 14th in the table and quickly getting sucked into the relegation battle, still remain without a win in 2017. Pep Guardiola, City's manager, was left adamant that the eightpoint gap was still too big for his side to breach but he was delighted by both their continued improvement and, in particular, Aguero's

Rs 2 crore base price for Ishant at IPL auction

NEw DElHi, FEBRUaRy 14 (iaNs): As many as seven cricketers, including Indian pacer Ishant Sharma, have their base price as Rs 2 crore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) players' auction to be held on February 20 in Bengaluru, it was announced on Tuesday. A total of 351 players will go under the hammer. Others in the highest base price bracket are Englishmen Ben Stokes, Eoin Morgan and Chris Woakes; Australian fast bowlers Mitchell Johnson and Pat Cummins; and Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews, IPL's website said. A maximum of 76 players, including 28 overseas, can be bought at the auction. Stokes, Morgan and Woakes were crucial members of the English team which lost the 2016 World Twenty20 final to the West Indies. Mathews featured in Kolkata Knight riders, now-disbanded Pune Warriors India and Delhi Daredevils in the history of

IPL. While playing Pune and Delhi, the all-rounder had been auctioned for more than Rs 5 crore. It will be interesting to see how the franchisees react when the name of Johnson will come. The left-armer has retired from international cricket and even though, he has enough IPL experience, Rs 2 crore is seen as too high. Ishant, who played for Rising Pune Supergiants, will also look to prove that he can be good enough in the shorter formats as well. Among the players, who are in the Rs 1.5 crore bracket, New Zealand pacer Trent Boult, English wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow and West Indian allrounder Jason Holder can be interesting picks for the franchises. New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson, English bowling all-rounder Chris Joran and Irfan Pathan will also be on focus.

means two losses in a row for the Thunder, who fell to 31-25, shooting just 35.4 percent overall on Monday. "He had an off night," said Washington coach Scott Brooks, who coached Westbrook in Oklahoma City for the seven seasons. "He's allowed to do that. It doesn't happen often." - Spurs beat Pacers Elsewhere, Kawhi Leonard tallied a gamehigh 32 points as the San Antonio Spurs clinched their 20th straight winning season with a 110-106 win over the Indiana Pacers on Monday. LaMarcus Aldridge scored 19 points, and Danny Green, David Lee and Tony Parker each scored 12 for the Spurs, who were coming off a surprising 94-90 loss to the New York Knicks on Sunday. The Spurs have lost two in a row only twice this NBA season and are 9-1 on the second night of consecutive games. Aldridge's three-point play with 52 seconds left gave the Spurs a 105-100

lead, and Parker made two free throws with 23 seconds remaining that bumped the lead to 107-101 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse arena. Two Aldridge free throws at the 3:55 mark and Leonard's baseline jumper with 3:34 to play gave San Antonio a 98-97 lead. Another Leonard basket stretched the lead to 100-97 with just under three minutes left. Paul George scored a team-high 27 points for Indiana, who dropped to 2926 on the season. Myles Turner finished with 22, Jeff Teague scored 15 and Rodney Stuckey added 13 for the Pacers, who lost their fourth straight game. San Antonio outscored Indiana 21-12 to close the second quarter as the teams went into the half tied 49-49. - Denver topples Warriors In Denver, Juancho Hernangomez nailed six of Denver's franchise-record 24 three-pointers as the Nuggets blasted the Golden State Warriors 132-110. Nikola Jokic had 17

points, 21 rebounds and 12 assists for his second tripledouble. He set career highs for assists and rebounds but was overshadowed by the team's outside shooting as four players hit at least four three-pointers,

Kevin Durant scored 25 points for Golden State. The Warriors were just eight of 32 from three point range, including Stephen Curry's one-of-11. Curry went four of 18 from the field and finished with just 11 points.

wasHiNgTON, FEBRUaRy 14 (aFP): Markieff Morris scored 23 points as the Washington Wizards took advantage of an off night by Russell Westbrook to crush the Oklahoma City Thunder 120-98. John Wall had 15 points and 14 assists and Bradley Beal scored 22 points as all five starters scored in double figures for the Wizards, who led by as many as 34 points. Washington has won three straight, 10 of 11 overall and are an Eastern Conference-best 17-5 since New Years Day. "It definitely starts with him," Beal said of shutting down Westbrook. "Containing him as much as possible, keeping him out of the paint. Make him take a lot of tough jumpers. "That's the game we want him to play. He wasn't comfortable with it. We made it difficult for him and their whole offense to get going." Westbrook scored 17 points for the Thunder, but the NBA Most Valuable Player candidate was a long way from his triple-double form. "I was doing what I wanted. I just missed," said Westbrook. The point guard played just 24 minutes. It has been quite a week for Westbrook. Less than 48 hours after an emotional matchup against former his teammate, Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant, he finished with four rebounds and four assists while shooting five of 19 from the field. The road matchup against the Wizards pitted all-star point guards Westbrook and Wall against each other. It didn't garner the same amount of attention that came from Durant's first game in Oklahoma City since spurning the Thunder for the Western Conference champion Warriors. But the same outcome

syDNEy, FEBRUaRy 14 (REUTERs): Australia's Adam Voges has retired from international cricket, signing off with a test batting average second only to the great Don Bradman. Voges became the oldest player to score a century on his test debut when he made an unbeaten 130 against West Indies two years ago, aged 35. The right-handed batsman scored 1,485 runs at an average of 61.87, ranking him second on the all time list behind Bradman's incredible 99.94. Voges lost his place in the test team after the second of two defeats to South Africa in November and was treated for concussion after being hit by a bouncer when batting for Western Australia in a Sheffield Shield match the same month. Voges, 37, will lead the Prime Minister's XI against the touring Sri Lankan team in Canberra on Wednesday

contribution. "He played good, he won, he fight, scored a goal for his confidence and for us, it's so important. I'm so happy for him," said the manager. Bournemouth had set a blistering pace and pressed high, severely testing City's preference for playing the ball out of defence. As the half hour approached, City had a lucky escape when winger Jordon Ibe broke through on the right after a one-two with midfielder Jack Wilshere and shot low but Willy Caballero spread himself well saving with his right foot. The next time City attacked they opened the scoring when Leroy Sane crossed from the left, the ball took a slight deflection off defender Steve Cook on its way to the far post and Sterling turned it into the net. Sterling was full of praise for Bournemouth but also relieved to have found the net. "They play amazing football at times and you've seen that throughout the game today. Credit to them, they pushed and pushed," the England forward, who has now scored seven goals in five games against Bournemouth, said. "Luckily today we got the two goals that gave us the win. I was just trying to get on the scoresheet. It doesn't always happen but it's part of my game and I need to add more goals to my game." Bournemouth kept up their momentum after the break making it even harder for City to move play out of their half and Caballero made a fine diving save from Harry Arter. Yet the change in central striker since Jesus's arrival has not altered the balance of the settled side Pep Guardiola has found since the 3-0 FA Cup win at Crystal Palace last month and they were always the more dangerous team on the break. Sane almost made it three when his effort from the left came back off the bar and again in stoppage time when he shot wide of the far post with only Boruc to beat.
