International Day of People with Disabilities observed

Creating an inclusive society requires effort

Mokokchung, DeceMber 3 (DIPr): Cure Foundation Mokokchung, a centre for Differently Abled Persons, in Collaboration with Mokokchung Arts & Aesthetics Management (MAAM) and Ao Milen observed International Day of Differently Abled Persons at Town Hall on December 3. Bendanglila, ADC Mokokchung & Administrator MMC who was the special guest at the function called upon the gatherings to treat and look upon those people with disability as equal in the society saying they (people with disability) are also created by the hands of God for specific purpose. She said the society, in a befitting manner, should renew their commitment and rededicate to make efforts to ensure that differently able persons are not alienated or discriminated. She said it is the society to secure them full participation and equality particularly in the field of education and employment. Bendanglila also outlined the protection given to people with disability and PWD Act 1995. Differently Abled Children from Cure Foundation presented special items at the function. Marking the day another programme was organized by Care and Support Society in Collaborated with Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority under the theme “Achieving 17 goals for the future we want” at MMC Conference Hall with Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, Sushil Kumar Patel IAS as the chief guest. The Deputy Commissioner said that everyone has a short coming and that even competent people who do not perform as they should is considered as disabled. Sushil Kumar said that there are people who are physically not capable of doing things but in many ways these people can do and perform better than any normal persons. Sushil Kumar maintained that to bring the differently abled to the main stream in the society, there is a need for attitude change in the society only then we can abolish the evil of discrimination and marginalization of differently abled persons in the society. He called upon the educated people to take the first step to discriminate the awareness to all section of people in the society only then equality in the real sense can be achieved, the DC added.

The World Disability Day, jointly organised by Nagaland Parents Association for Disable (NAPAD) and Social Welfare Department, Government of Nagaland was held on December 3 at Highland Park, near IG Stadium Kohima. Dr. Nicky Kire also encouraged the special children mentioning that they are no different from the rest of the children. Assuring to provide assistance and help if need be, Dr. Kire appealed to the children and parents to approach the government and highlight their problems.

He encouraged the various stakeholders of the society to be responsible by bringing the disabled community to the main stream and adopt inclusive policy and attitude towards the disabled community by giving them platform and privilege to showcase their talents. ment of the people with disabilities in the area by encouraging and helping them in facilitating various schemes and entitlements. He encouraged the participants and said that we have a long way to go in understanding the disable issues, and thus this should be a new beginning as we have neglected them for a long time. The formal programme ended with a vote thanks by Kulhi Mero and benediction by Wetso-u Medo Assistant Professor, PGC, after which there was a discussion hour and some new office bearers were added to the existing official for the better working of the Association.

When the 7-Day Bookworm Fest opened to public on November 29, 2016 at APO Conference Hall, Kohima, it wasn’t just booklovers and aspiring writers who were elated at the thought of it. True to its objectives, the Fest showcases local businesses of different kinds. Mhonlumi Kithan, who initiated “Papyrus” in 2014 said, “the Fest is a very good platform for local vendors” while stating that many people have not heard of her shop in Kohima before, but are now aware of its existence. Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Resources & Sports, State Lotteries and Music Task Force Khriehu Liezietsu today asked the students to reinvent the dignity of labour. Speaking at the 21st Annual Day programme at Oriental College here, Liezietsu asked the students not only look for government and white colored jobs but opt for skill and capacity by becoming skilled workers and entrepreneurs which would boost the economy of the state as current the state was mostly dependent on outsiders. “It is high time we as a society and state become self-reliant, we should be physically and mentally prepared ourselves to do all the jobs for our development, as well as for our daily

survival” he added. He said students as future leaders should practice and inculcate positive actions and thoughts for what they sow today will be reaped tomorrow. Lauding the college authority for imparting quality and skilled development education to students, the parliamentary secretary also asked students to acquire the education system imparted by the college. “I am also aware of the fact that the education provided by this college is backed up by the right moral and spiritual foundation. This college being a Christian educational institution is fully catering to the moral and spiritual aspects of the students’ growth and developmental needs’ he said. He also appreciated the farsighted pioneers of the college who have understood the importance of quality education. He said all over the

world the importance of quality education and manpower development as the means of bringing wholesome and faster development has been recognized. He said without quality education a man cannot realize his full potentials. Liezietsu also appreciated the college authorities and faculty member for imparting quality education to students. “The college is not only excelling academically but also in various aspects of a student’s life and career. All these are the result of the dedicated hardwork being put in by the pioneers, the management and faculty of this college” he said. The parliamentary secretary also lauded the extra effort being put by Principal, Dr. Ketshukietuo Dzuvichu to make the college excel in many fronts. Dzivichu in his welcome speech said college has been excelling in academic and other curriculum activities all because of dedicated faculty, management members and students. He said college would focus on skill development while not forgetting imparting quality education. He underscored the need to impart skilled development education to students for their future survival and to contribute to the progress of the state. On the occasion academic awards were also presented to students, special award to teachers and special presentation to graduating students. Advisor, Urban Development, S.I. Jamir on Saturday inaugurated newly constructed C.C. Road at Kevijau Lane 15A connecting Lane 7A in the presence of colony leaders and members. Speaking at the programme, Jamir encouraged the residents to inculcate sense of cleanliness

and hygiene starting from their homes and set benchmarks for others to follow. Stating that the municipal election was approaching, he also appealed the residents to elect honest and upright leader who would sincerely work for the welfare of the people.
