Gathering fight

Campaign talk THE Victorian National Parks Association’s nature conservation campaigner Shannon Hurley, pictured, will be guest speaker at this year’s 30 November annual general meeting of Port Phillip Conservation Council. Hurley’s role with the VNPA focuses on protecting marine and coastal areas, as well as land based campaigns. She was involved with the Australian Marine Conservation Society’s successful Reef/Stop Adani campaign in the lead up to the Queensland state election. Before that she worked for Parks Victoria as a marine planner, marine project officer and marine ranger. Hurley is a keen scuba diver and “huge fan” of sharks, recently embarking on a business called Salty Tribe, connecting women with the ocean and combining wellbeing, adventure and conservation.

POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fight at a gathering in Mount Martha on 14 October. It is alleged a fight broke out when a group of males who arrived at the gathering at about 10.30pm were told to leave. One of the victims, a 19-year-old male was taken to hospital, where he required surgery for his injuries. Anyone with information, who has CCTV of the incident, mobile phone video recorded footage, or who may have witness the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au

Clarification A REVIEW of the electoral structure of Mornington Peninsula Shire is being conducted by the Electoral Representation Advisory Panel, not the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) as stated in The News last week (“Indigenous names sought for shire’s 11 new wards” 7/11/23). The panel was appointed by the Local Government Minister and receives administrative and technical support from the VEC.
