Morningside University got its start in 1894 when our founders decided their “college in the cornfield” could become one of the greatest in the nation. For nearly 130 years, we have built a reputation we know would make them proud. Morningside grads are snapped up by employers and celebrated for the talent they bring to Siouxland and beyond. Our faculty aren’t just book smart – they are out there doing their thing, making contributions and finding ways to make experiences part of learning. Performing arts have earned national and international recognition. Student-athletes are killing it in competition as well as in the classroom. Most importantly, there’s a genuine sense of pride among Morningsiders. That’s how we know that not only do we live up to our promise that experience matters here, but Mside really is the best side.
“
Morningside is in the perfect spot. If you are looking for the things that a city might offer like concerts and retail, you can find them here, but there are also wide-open spaces not far from here. The campus itself reflects its location. It’s absolutely beautiful and walking through feels like you are in a park, but it’s set in the middle of Sioux City and has a homey feel that you quickly come to love.”
SUSANA MONTOYA SOPHOMORE LINCOLN, NE“My internship at the Siouxland Community Foundation connected me with so many nonprofit organizations in our area. I was amazed to see firsthand the hard work they each do for the people in our region and appreciated the opportunity to build my network and experience.

Morningside has a wide variety of opportunities for students to get engaged in the classroom and in the community. The professors and advisors are supportive in helping you find the right path for you. If you are unsure about a major or professional path like I was, there are resources and options to help you find the right major for you.”
Morningside is where you want to be, but we don’t have the exact major you are looking for? Consider chatting with faculty about a possible self-designed major or active learning experiences that could help you create what your are looking for.
We are going to say this extra loud for the people in the back – most students don’t know what they want to major in, and even the ones who do declare a major will tell you it is far from set in stone. It really is totally normal. We also realize that you and your loved ones might be wondering how students go about figuring out the best way forward for them. That’s where the X Path comes in. We created the X Path to give students a space and place to explore while still making sure they graduate on time. You have up to four semesters to explore, job shadow, take assessments, and do other guided activities designed to help point your future in the right direction for you. What’s even better is that most X Path students find that the knowledge and skills they gain through exploring on the X Path are applicable regardless of the discipline they ultimately choose.
You matter. Your college experience matters. Morningside gives you the opportunity to make the most of that experience. We want our students and their families to know that the experience you will have at Morningside is an investment that will be well worth it. We are so sure, there are three things (listed below) that we will guarantee to any full-time, first-year student who enrolls and fulfills our requirements.
99%

We love that the two words our students most frequently use to describe Morningside are “home” and “family.” Should you choose to visit Morningside, we encourage you and your loved ones to ask the students you encounter how they would describe life here, and odds are good that’s the answer you will get. We all do better and feel better when we are comfortable. That’s exactly what we want for you.
But what most people don’t know is that 100% of full-time undergraduate Morningside students receive financial aid—every single student, through scholarships, grants, and need-based aid. In fact, last year we provided students with more than $21 million in scholarships and grants.
While there are a variety of scholarships available, here is a look at four of the main scholarships offered to first-time, full-time freshmen. There are no application deadlines for Morningside scholarships—all entering freshmen meeting the criteria are considered.
ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS
All students will receive an academic scholarship once they are accepted to Morningside.
*Students with a 3.0 or higher after your first academic year at Morningside are eligible to receive a $1,000 stipend for Morningside experiential travel or research.
Students who choose to take the ACT or SAT and have their scores submitted to Morningside may qualify for an additional scholarship that can be combined with other scholarships and awards.
ACT of 26-30 or SAT of 1230-1380 $3,000 per year/$12,000 total ACT of 21-25 or SAT 1060-1220 $1,000 per year/$4,000 total
Be sure to talk to your Admissions Counselor about other opportunities to earn additional $$ through a Talent Grant or Monte Grant and through our FAFSA Submission and Visit Grants.
The active, experiential education you will receive at Morningside allows you to not only gain the skills required for your chosen field of study, but also the critical thinking skills required to explore the ethics of decision-making and engaged citizenship, effective communication, cultural competence, collaboration, and more.
More importantly, studies show earning a bachelor’s degree is very much worth it. A Pew Research study showed that individuals with a bachelor’s degree earned 67% more than those with only a high school degree. Additionally, those with a bachelor’s degree were less likely to be unemployed, were offered better benefits packages, and were more likely to have health insurance.
hear it every day: “I can’t afford a private school.”
