LANTERN FESTIVAL? Enjoy Japanese folk-dancing, taiko drumming, our Ennichi street fair, and iconic lantern floating ceremony during a fall festival in the Spirit of Obon – Japan’s summer homage to ancestors who return for a brief visit to the living.

SHOP Browse craft, plant, and tea vendors on festival grounds and head inside to visit the Museum Store Sweet Shop! EAT Chow down on Japanese street fair favorites from festival food vendors and the Cornell CafÊ and grab a drink from the Kirin Beer Garden or Sake Station. EXPLORE Join us for Japanese Gardens 101 – get an introduction and an inside look into one of the six historic gardens of Roji-en. Meets in the museum lobby at 4:00pm and 6:00pm!

PLAY Try your hand at Japanese festival games, crafts and activities!

*All games are free to play with the exception of Fish Scoop ($1). Cash and tickets are accepted.

Use these fun light-up paper lanterns to guide you once the sun sets tonight! LANTERN T-SHIRTS & KIMONO CENTRAL Pick up your exclusive Lantern Festival ’16 tee by the Fine Print Shoppe and don't miss Kimono Central! (location on map) LANTERNS & TANZAKU Purchase and build a floating lantern ($12 each while supplies last) or a tanzaku slip ($1 each) in memory of a loved one, and see them float across Morikami Lake at the end of the evening.


Shaded area is closed after 7:30pm for lantern floating and fireworks.

Ticket stations accept both cash and credit cards and ATMs are located on festival grounds.* Remember, one ticket equals one dollar. Tickets are nonrefundable, but you can drop leftover tickets in the donation box at each ticket tent to support our education programs!
