Glouster locals By MAGGI GIFFORD 343-3013 or coyotehollowfarm@gmail.com One eagle has definitely been spotted at Wildcat Hollow, which is at the upper end of Burr Oak Lake. Wildcat Hollow is located in the Wayne National Forest, and falls under the jurisdiction of the Athens Ranger District. The trail offers two loops, one 15 miles and the other five miles. There is public hunting in the area, so if you plan on hiking there in the next couple of weeks (spring turkey season), wear hunter orange, and avoid reds and blues. Passport to the Outdoors, hosted by Rural Action, was held at Burr Oak beach on Sunday, May 4. Kids, 16 and under, participated in a fishing workshop, which consisted of four stations, where they learned how to tie knots, casting, fish identification, and habitat. At the end of the hour-long workshop, each child received a fishing pole. Lunch was pulled pork sandwiches, locally produced chips and salsa, hummus, and pasta salad, served on real china and real flatware. This is part of the Zero Waste Initiative, whose goal is to divert waste from the landfill. Whoever had to do the washing up deserves a big pat on the back, but it was nice not having to deal with flimsy paper plates. Canoes were available to take out on the lake, and a big part of the afternoon was devoted to exploring the stream and woods running along the beach parking lot. The kids had nets to drag through the water and see what they could find. Crawdads of every size, salamanders, and giant snails were some of the critters they dredged up. We spent about an hour and a half in the woods looking at wildflowers and turning over rocks and logs. It was a fun time, and I hope the kids were as worn out as I was. At 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, there will be Goofy Games for kids at the Glouster Public Library. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, there will be a dinner and bake sale at the Trimble Masonic Lodge to benefit Jimmy McDonald, who lost his home to a fire. I’m still interested in pictures from the Burr Oak area before the lake was built, or during construction.

His wish was to see all of his nieces and nephews. They had a wonderful turn out and lot's of great food. Ronnie Mayle Jr. had a great weekend at the races. He was second fastest qualifier, first place in his heat race and second in the feature at Skyline Speedway. Chesterhill Produce Auction is back and full swing every Monday and Thursday at 4 p.m. They are in the process of putting a cook book together and are in need of recipes. Please take your recipes to the Produce Auction or you may contact Peggy Kennedy at 740-554-7499. I would like to send my condolences to Amy Nichols, family and friends for their loss. Mother's Day is this Sunday and I would like to wish all the mothers a happy Mother's Day. THE DRIVING force behind Mother's Day was Anna Jarvis, who organized observances in Grafton, W.Va., and Philadelphia on May 10, 1908. As the annual celebration became popular around the country, Jarvis asked members of Congress to set aside a day to honor mothers. She succeeded in 1914, when Congress designated the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day. THE WORLD’S oldest mother was documented on April 9, 2003 in India when a retired schoolteacher, Satyabhama Mahapatra, at the age of 65 gave birth to a baby boy. The baby was conceived through artificial insemination. HALLMARK began creating and producing Mother’s Day cards in the early 1920s.
