Major marihuana bust involves County resident by marK FaULHaber Morgan County resident, John David Moon, 44, had his vehicle stopped by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, on or about March 14-15, in Fairfield County. The traffic stop resulted in the eventual discovery of a total of 28 pounds of marihuana and over $104,000 in cash. When Ohio State Highway Patrol Officers initially searched Moon’s car, they

discovered four pounds of marihuana and $24,000 in cash. Moon was arrested and taken into custody. He later told law enforcement authorities that he had more marihuana and more money in his house, located in Morgan County. The Ohio State Highway Patrol then contacted Morgan County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Howdyshell with the infor-

mation. Howdyshell procured a search warrant and the Morgan County Sheriff ’s Office searched Moon’s house on March 15. Inside Moon’s home, the Sheriff ’s Officers found an additional 24 pounds of marihuana and an additional $80,280 in cash. In the Court of Common Pleas of Morgan County, Moon was indicted on two counts of felony charges with specifications. Count One states that Moon did

knowingly obtain, possess, or use a controlled substance, marihuana, in an amount greater than 5,000 grams but less than 20,000 grams (possession of marihuana), a felony of the third degree. by marK FaULHaber According to the Morgan County Sheriff ’s Office, the Stockport Branch of the First National Bank, was robbed at 11:07 a.m. Wednesday, March 26. The suspect is a white male. He is approximately six feet tall and was wearing a camouflage jacket, blue jeans, a black toboggan mask, and black shoes or boots. The suspect entered and exited through the front door of the bank with an undetermined amount of cash. The suspect had a weapon. He was last seen traveling north behind the bank. The Morgan County Sheriff ’s Office is investigating the bank robbery along with assistance from Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCI&I) and the Athens Office of the FBI. Son kills mother, puts body in Muskingum River by marK FaULHaber According to Prosecuting Attorney Mark Howdyshell, Jacob Michael Harrod, 22, admitted to authorities, that he killed his mother, Lisa Kangas, 46, in Bloom Township, McConnelsville. The Morgan County Sheriff ’s Office dispatch received a call at 6:51 p.m. Thursday, March 27, from Brenda Boone. She stated she was at the residence of Lisa Kangas with Jacob Harrod. Ms. Boone stated that Harrod had told her that he killed his mother, Lisa Kangas. He said he hit her with a frying pan and put her body in the river. According Sheriff ’s Office, Ms. Kangas was apparently killed on Tuesday, March 25, but authorities had no knowledge of the incident until

Thursday night, when the report of her death was made to the Sheriff ’s Office. “This murder case was investigated, submitted, presented to a Grand Jury, and had an arraignment entry in about 20 hours,” said Howdyshell. “The 911 call came at 6:51 p.m. on Thursday and by 3:21 p.m. Friday afternoon we had the arraignment finished.” Officers were dispatched to the home of Kangas, 6305 N SR 60. Boone and Harrod were at the residence. Jacob was taken to the Sheriff ’s Office and the scene was secured.
