Coach/Teacher Ben Greenbaum ’00 demonstrates a core-strenghtening exercise.

Sophomore Sidney Nguyen is deceptively strong despite her petite frame. She can dead lift more than her weight.

As a Moreau Catholic senior, coach and theology teacher Ben Greenbaum ’00 was the Hayward Area Athletic League Champion and Bayshore North Coast Champion in pole vaulting. During his time at Moreau, Ben played 4 years of soccer, 3 years of football, ran 1 year of cross country and competed in track and field for 4 years. The practical knowledge Ben gained from his extensive participation in athletics, combined with his all-consuming passion for coaching provides “his girls” with an exceptional mentor. Ben does not use the phrase possessively. Rather, it expresses the pride he has in the accomplishments of “his” volleyball team and the pole vaulters he trains—the concern he extends to all facets of their well-being and academic endeavors. Ben Greenbaum is truly a hearts and minds coach. After finishing his degree at the University of California, Davis, Ben came back to Moreau Catholic to coach. During his first season, Coach Greenbaum mentored pole vaulter Audrey Miciano, who qualified for the North Coast Section Championship as a first year participant in the sport. Ben’s training regimen develops athletic potential quickly and this year, he has four up and coming stars: Sidney Nguyen ’16, Michaela Wong ’16, Kim Rivera ’15 and Ericka Serrano ’15.

Sophomore Michaela Wong is powerful and graceful.
