he Chernov Team in Studio City, owned by Dennis Chernov, closed more than $198 million in sales last year and was ranked by The Wall Street Journal as #6 in L.A. County out of 1.25 million agents. Dennis’ wife, Yana Chernov, oversees internal operations including hiring, marketing and acquisitions, which allows him to focus on selling homes and client relationships.
How many women work on your team? “We have a total of nine women, including myself, and I have hired seven of them. I genuinely love every single one of them and consider them my friends. It’s very important that we have that relationship because, at the end of the day it’s all about doing what we love and having fun. It’s important to establish a friendly environment. If everyone is happy, their work will speak for itself.” What makes your team stand out? “When I started in real estate seven years ago, I realized that it’s a very stressful business that often leads to an unhappy environment. I wanted to change that for our team. I have a fun, outgoing personality, so I decided to bring that to the table and be different. I truly think our agents and staff have fun and love their jobs. The amount of positive feedback I get shows that this positive energy has made real estate fun for other people as well.”
What do you like about working with so many women? “I am all for female empowerment! I want all women around me to strive to be their best self. Having so many women on our team is definitely fun because each one brings something different to the table. It’s also challenging in its own way because everyone has her own personality. We are told daily we need our own reality show!” Between your marriage, business and children, how do you balance everything? “The #1 thing I focus on is internal happiness. If we all focus on making ourselves happy, we will bring out positive energy and everything else will fall into place. Dennis and I have been together since I was 17 and he was 18. We are best friends, and we really trust each other and have each other’s back. The same organizational skills I use in business help me manage my work/life balance too. My entire life is one big checklist!”
