I tried my best to avoid ge0ng a dog. I held them off for several years, before I finally broke down and got my kids their first puppy last summer. They begged and pleaded and made all kinds of promises about how well they would take care of him. He was to be the most cared for and maintained dog in history! As expected, aCer a few months the newness soon wore off and the reality of cleaning up aCer the dog, taking him on walks etc. set in. Although the kids are doing fairly well with their responsibiliDes, and we absolutely adore the puppy, those duDes aren’t as glamorous as they originally expected. Life is full of firsts and with each new exciDng territory we enter we oCen make ourselves promises about the kind of dad, husband, student, grandparent, athlete, friend, etc. we want to be. We stand on a vista overlooking the grand scenery before us and plot the perfect course, anxious to start the journey. But, as we embark oCen the newness soon wears off and the reality of mundane everyday work sets in. It’s tempDng to take shortcuts, change the original course, or turn back. The real test for each new trail we blaze is looking back to remember why we started the journey in the first place, show tenacity in the work we do day to day, demonstrate integrity in honoring the original course and being grateful for the opportunity to embark. The Pioneer Club is one way that Alpine Bank looks back to check itself against original ideals, to remember why we started this journey and an opportunity to show graDtude for those who made us what we are today.
