Awarding Body

Level of Course: HND is a Level 5 qualification (equivalent to the second year of a UK bachelor’s degree). There is an embedded level-4 exit qualification, the HNC

Number of Credit Hours: Upon successful completion of the course, the student will have completed at least 240 + credits. On completion of HNC, the student will have completed at least 120 + credits

Study Mode: Full-Time

BTEC Higher National Certificate (1 Year): The HNC is a level-4 qualification delivered over one year. The HNC is an embedded component of the HND; however, it can be taken as a stand-alone qualification. If a student opts to take the HNC, the student would be eligible for a Higher National Certificate after successful completion of a minimum of 8 modules

BTEC Higher National Diploma (2 Years): The HND is a level-5 qualification delivered over two years, the first year at level 4 and the second year at level-5. If a student opts to take the HND, the student would be eligible for a Higher National Diploma after the successful completion of a minimum of 16 modules

Attendance: Full-time students are required to attend 21 hours per week in term time

Workload: An average of 8-10 hours of home study time per week for this programme is recommended

International (Tier-4) students also need to show English language competence to secure admissions. English Language

In order for students to be successful on Pearson BTEC Higher National qualifications, which are both taught and assessed in English, it is critical that they have an appropriate level of English language skills. The following clarifies the requirements for all centers when recruiting applicants on to new Pearson BTEC Higher National qualifications. All students who are non-native English speakers and who have not undertaken their final two years of schooling in English can demonstrate capability in English at a standard equivalent to the levels identified below before being recruited to the programme: • Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level B2

• PTE 51

• IELTS 5.5; Reading and Writing must be at 5.5 or equivalent Furthermore, international (Tier-4) students must show proof of English – language competence through success in an English test or background approved by UKBA. They should have a CEFR B2 level and above in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. European Union students should also have good exam results or a background in the English language.

On successful completion of the HND course, students can gain entry to the final year of an undergraduate degree course at any University in the UK, which accepts Pearson qualifications. They can also obtain admission into the university for a three-year level 6 qualification in professions related to Health and Social Care, including a qualification in social work. There is also an opportunity for progression in employment to take up a managerial or supervisory role within the sector. The tuition fee for the academic year 2022/2023, the tuition fee is £7,724 and applies to both the new and the continuing MRC students.
