Mont Rose College of Management and Sciences in London offers Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (QCF) this course with the approval of BTEC Edexcel. The Pearson BTEC Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training prepares trainee teachers and trainers to teach in a wide range of contexts. To achieve the qualification, there is a requirement for teaching practice that requires observation and assessment of performance.

Awarding Body:

Level of Course: DET is a Level 5 qualification (equivalent to the second year of a UK bachelor’s degree)

Number of Credit Hours: Upon successful completion of the course, the student will have completed at least 120 credits.

Study Mode: Full-time

Attendance: A full-time student is required to attend 21 hours per week in term time

Exemptions: No exemptions are allowed for this programme Guided Learning Hours: 360 minimum

Students who wish to undertake the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training programme should have:

» A degree or a relevant vocational and/or academic qualification » A keen interest in teaching and learning. » A current DBS Check/Certificate of £46.66 - should not have a criminal background, which might prevent them from working as a teacher with young people or vulnerable adults. » A satisfactory level of Literacy and Numeracy or complete an initial diagnostic test.

Teaching Practice

Teaching practice is integral to the entire programme, and through this, students will demonstrate their own understanding of the principles of teaching and learning. Through the teaching practice, trainee teachers will demonstrate their ability to plan and deliver lessons and assess their students.

Trainee teachers will have to evidence 100 teaching practice hours. They will be observed for a minimum of eight hours over a minimum of eight occasions where mentors or tutors will provide constructive feedback to further their development as teachers.

Teaching practice will involve the following:

» A number of teaching practice locations/settings/contexts » Teaching across more than one level » Teaching a variety of learners » Teaching individuals and groups » Experience of non-teaching roles » Gaining subject specialist knowledge through workplace mentoring

Progression Routes on Completion

This Diploma qualification in the QCF is recognised as equivalent to the Certificate of Education qualifications in the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications (FHEQ). Learners who have achieved the Pearson BTEC Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET) (QCF) can progress to further studies in education, such as the Pearson Edexcel Level 7 Diploma in Assessment Management (QCF). Learners who achieve the Pearson BTEC Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (QCF) and who are progressing to higher education accredited qualifications at Level 6 or above can have their Level 5 credit recognised in line with the higher education institution’s arrangements for the recognition of prior learning.

Tuition Fee

The tuition fee for the academic 2022/2023 is £7,724 and applies to both the new and the continuing MRC students.
