The Newington Children’s Theatre Company (NCTC) is proud to present Disney’s Cinderella Kids, taking to the NCTC stage March 1-3. The timeless fairy tale meets the magic of Disney in this adaptation of the treasured animated film. Poor Cinderella is endlessly mistreated by her wicked stepmother and stepsisters, and denied a chance to go to the Royal Ball. With a little help from her mice friends, and a lot of help from her Fairy Godmother, Cinderella goes to the ball, meets the Prince, and falls in love! With a cast of over 35 area kids, ages 5-15, coupled with a beautiful score including “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes” and the classic “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo,” Disney’s Cinderella Kids will charm its way into your heart, and remind you that dreams really can come true. Performances are March 1-3 (Friday & Saturday at 7 p.m. and Saturday & Sunday at 2 p.m.) and will be held at the NCTC Performing Arts Theatre (743 North Mountain Rd., Newington). Babysitting Training Course

American Academy of Pediatrics is offering a one-day babysitting training course for students ages 11-14 with instructors Phil and Kim Lombardo, chief and assistant chief of the Wethersfield Volunteer Ambulance Association. Thursday, Feb. 21, 10 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. at Wethersfield Volunteer Ambulance Headquarters, Prospect Street (next door to the Nature Center).◄Registration deadline is Friday, Feb. 15. Must have minimum of 10 students in order for training course to proceed and class limit is 20. Wethersfield residents will receive first preference. $85 per person includes American Academy of Pediatrics certificate, materials and lunch. Lenten Mission

Rev. Fr. David Cinquegrani and Dr. Brandon Nappi of the Holy Family Passionist Retreat Center in West Hartford will be leading the 2013 Lenten Mission at St. John Catholic Church, Cromwell, Wednesday, March 6, and Thursday, March 7, from 7-8:30 p.m. The theme of the mission will be “Courage to Hope”. The mission will explore how we can move through life grounded in God’s presence no matter what our circumstances are. There are times when doubt and challenges creep into our lives; we begin to feel an absence of God in our lives, causing us to lose our grounding in the faith that was once a source of strength. This mission will bring us closer to God through music, laughter, liturgical dance and dynamic talks. Also featured will be the renowned cellist Kathy Schiano among other musicians. There will be refreshments each night and one or both speakers will be available to meet and greet the audience. Admission is free. 1/24/13

Singing Valentines

This Valentine’s Day, let the Sound of New England Chorus deliver your heartfelt message with a song. On Thursday, Feb. 14, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sound of New England Chorus will send quartets on the road throughout Greater Hartford and surrounding towns to deliver “singing valentines” – a cappella musical messages of love and friendship. They will travel to offices, private residences (9 a.m.-7 p.m. only), schools, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, restaurants and hospitals, singing to spouses, parents, friends, children, even bosses. NCTC’s Explore-A-Story

Registration is open for Newington Children’s Theatre Company’s fall classes for children, ages 5-8.Explore-A-Story: Neverland Adventures offers a playful introduction to performing, giving children an opportunity to learn basic acting skills, while expressing themselves through the beloved story of Peter Pan! Over the four weeks, participants will retell this classic fairytale in their own words creating their own play to showcase for family and friends. Calling all Vendors & Crafters

The Portland High School Project Graduation Committee is coordinating a Vendor Fair just in time for Mother’s Day! Our fair accommodates more than 60 booths, or about 50 crafters. Members of Portland Project Graduation Committee are always available on the day of the fair to assist crafters with any special needs. As you plan your schedule for this upcoming spring, we hope that you will consider participating in our fair. Our fair will be held Saturday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Portland High School. The general application deadline is Feb. 27. All applications post marked by Feb. 20 will receive a $5 discount. Native Plants for Our Native Birds

The speaker for February meeting of the Men’s Garden Club of Wethersfield will be conservationist, environmentalist, and migratory songbird enthusiast Michael Corcoran from the Connecticut Audubon Society Center at Glastonbury. Michael will share his knowledge of how to use native plants, trees and shrubs to create safe havens for our breeding birds and to provide migratory birds ‘stop overs’ during their seasonal movements. The meeting will be held Monday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m. in the Pitkin Community Center, 30 Greenfield St., Wethersfield. The public is invited. Free admission. WHS Safe Graduation 2013

The 2013 Wethersfield High School Safe Graduation Annual Fundraising Dance is Saturday, March 2, at the Pitkin Community Center on Greenfield Street from 7-11 p.m. This is our largest fundraiser in support of the Safe Graduation Party held for all seniors following graduation. The Newington Chapter of UNICO National will hold its second annual “Warm Winter Woolies” clothing drive from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, Feb. 23, in the Community Room of the Lucy Robbins Welles Library, Cedar Street, Newington.
