FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT Unbelievable!!!!!!!! Where did the time go? It seems like only a few weeks ago, I was at the lectern receiving the gavel with a sense of uncertainty and trepidation at what I was about to undertake Now here I am at the end of my tenure. I can hardly imagine that it has been almost a year already!. And what an awesome experience it was. Being President of Club 6796, Cable Beach West, the premier Club in the West, proved to be both challenging and rewarding. Challenging in the sense that, ultimately I was responsible for the for smooth running of the Club and at times when things did not go as planned it would take some quick organizing to ensure that everything would turn out right. My experience was rewarding due to the support I TM Alma Evans CC/CL receiving from my Executive team and the members President which lead to the goals of the Club being realized. The success of each club was due to the fact that the Executive meetings were held almost every week which ensured that each officer was prepared to execute their respective duties. I can say that this year has truly been rewarding and a fulfilling experience. When the DCP program was explained to me, I felt somewhat overwhelmed because some of the goals seemed unattainable given the length of time in which we had to accomplish them. However, thanks to hard working members our Club is now President’s Distinguished. As I reflect over the past year, I can truly say that this year has been a fulfilling and amazing experience for me. It has developed my skills far more than I could have possibly imagined. And so it is almost with a sense of sadness that I come to the end of my tenure, but I look forward to next year when Club 6796 will again rise to another height and I will be there GROWING just like I did this year. Thank you Club 6796!! It was great!!! *

EDITOR’S CORNER It is with great pleasure that we present to you our final newsletter for the 2007—2008 year. The highlight of this newsletter is Senior’s Night in which we recognized our seasoned members. Special thanks to the members who have contributed to the success and promotion of our club. Public Relations has been able to ascend to higher heights with the progression of our website which is fully functional and complete with updates and photos. Additionally, we were able to conduct a public relations campaign during the month of November which climaxed with a presentation by the Hon. Obie Wilchcombe, which was promoted on the television and radio. TM Nadia Hope Johnson, CC/ALB It has been my esteemed pleasure to serve as the VP Public Relations and it is hoped that my successor TM VP Public Relations Kelly Nixon will surpass the goals that I have been able to accomplish during my tenure. Thank you Club 6796 for entrusting me with the awesome task to promote this great club. It has been a privilege. *

REFLECTIONS My Role as EVP by DTM Charles Hunt Since assuming the role of EVP of club-6796, on January 8th 2008, I am happy to report that my work has been enjoyable, even though challenging at times. The job of EVP provided me the opportunity to work with toastmasters at all levels. 1. At the executive level. 2. At the beginners stage. 3. At the senior level. And with toastmasters from other clubs Club 6796 had many successes this year, but there is room for much more improvement. It cannot be denied that only a part our membership was involved in the club’s activities during the year. If dedication and commitment is what is needed to take our club to a higher level of success, then we need all hands on deck as we move forward. Let us live out the dreams of our founding fathers of toastmasters, by truly dedicating ourselves to making the ideals of toastmasters emanate from our actions. Regards.

TM Jamaal Cooper CC/CL Treasurer 2007-2008 My tenure as treasurer for the Cable Beach West Branch of Toastmasters Club 6796 has been a very rewarding experience. From attending executive and club meetings, collecting dues from Toastmasters who were all excited about the program and depositing the payments into the club’s bank account regularly, Paying Per Capita to World Headquarters by October 1st and April 1st. I also had the task of preparing a annual budget for the club, paying club bills as they are due, keeping accurate records of all of the financial transactions and presenting financial reports to the Club. One vital lesson that I learned as being the Treasurer is that “follow-up” is key. That is important in all walks of life. The art of following up adds more importance toward a particular goal in which you are pursuing. Indeed the success of the club is imperative upon the commitment and dedication of the members. Therefore consistently checking your goals and communicating with the members will guarantee the commitment and dedication of each member.

My Experience as VP Membership by TM Fallon Gray, CC VP Membership 2007-2008 It seems like only yesterday when our immediate past president DTM Margo Adderley phoned me about serving as the club's VP of membership. I accepted instantly confident that the position was one easily filed. In spite of all the creative membership ideas my self-proclaimed confidence was short lived. With all the brainstorming and planning I did not factor the responsibility I so willingly welcomed. Luckily the more senior toastmasters recognized my struggle and assisted where necessary. The membership committee in conjunction with the public relations committee organized a membership drive midSeptember at the Marathon Mall. Most of our club members were present and active in encouraging passersby join toastmasters. As result of the drive more than eighty persons expressed interest in learning more about toastmasters. Of the group The club welcomed one new member and three dual members into its family; I was elated over this accomplishment. In continuation with the success during first quarter in the second and third quarters there was one member reactivating her status and three new members! In my first year as a toastmaster I observed that club 6796 consisted mostly of senior toastmasters however as we inducted each new member this year I was pleased by the sight of integration between senior and junior members. This upcoming year is one I impatiently welcome as each executive member has both experience and youth to offer the club.

My Synopsis as Secretary by TM Ruthiemae Rolle Secretary 2007-2008 A song writer once wrote and I quote; “People who need people are the luckiest people in the world.” My Fellow Toastmaster Colleagues, When you become a part of Toastmasters it is not monetary gain, but it is the love of friendship which is priceless. My term in office as Secretary of club 6796 for the year 2007-2008 has been very challenging. I thank God for His guidance when I felt the position was stressful but I persevered. It was a learning experience for me. Club 6796 taught me how to be a professional. It also taught me how to show concern for my brothers, to love and be committed. I would be remiss if I did not express my profound gratitude to Toastmasters Joyce Rahming & Nadia Hope Johnson for their support and encouragement and Chavette Black, Mark and Fallon White for their un-tiring assistance, I say to them cheers and I hope that God continues to bless them. My Goal is to one day build a centre to house teen mothers until they become self-sufficient, and I would like professionals like Toastmasters to volunteer their time to teach how to fill-out employment application forms, personal hygiene, etiquette and money management. I can accomplish this venture with the assistance of my toastmaster colleagues and the experience that I have gained in this program.

THANK YOU!! FROM THE AREA 12 GOVERNOR It is with esteemed honor and pleasure that I embraced the opportunity to serve as the Area 12 Governor, but with your support, we were able to accomplish our goals. I have found that when one ascends the ranks from President to Area Governor there are a lot of lessons to be learnt. I am thankful for the opportunity to work with each and everyone of you, and we did conquer all boundaries. Thank you Area 12!!! TM Joyce Rahming, ACG/CL Bahamas Area 12, Governor 20072007-2008

The Truth of Youth

Happy is the man who can retain the innocence and humility of the child. The child is able to see the world for what it is, and not allow the relative thoughts of this materialistic world to infiltrate the purity of his thought.

It is so peculiar to watch The eyes of little children.

To see the world through the eyes of a child is to be able to give oneself over to the utter and complete enjoyment of all that one does. To be able to channel all of one's energies into pleasuring and being pleasured; to be able to love even in the presence of hatred; and to be able to have no expectancy of one's fellowman, but that he be a being, and worth attendance and exploration because of the mere virtue of being such. These are a few virtues of a child. The greatest asset is that he is able to appreciate a newness in all levels of existence. The child, not long having come from that state, has the greatest light of immortality. His youthful qualities are symbolic of the eternity of youth.

The best thinking has been done in solitude. The worst has been done in - Thomas Edison turmoil. "The truly rich are those who enjoy what they have." - Yiddish Proverb

Their sparkling depths Engulf a world of splendor and innocence. They are able o beguile With just one stare. They are able to engender Love, Truth, Happiness and Cheer. These pools of youth are complete In innocence and tranquility. They have yet to assume he treacherous turmoil of the aged. The honest appeal of these irises Inspire a hope for endless youth.

Success isn't a result of spontaneous combustion. You must set yourself on - Arnold H. Glasow fire. Success is not the key to happiness — happiness is the key to success.

SENIORS’ NIGHT

Pictured at left is TM Gary Reece with his most gracious Bahamian host — TM J. C. Sweeting. Last year, TM Gary Reece was the keynote speaker at District 47 Spring Conference in Melbourne, Florida made his way recently at the Lynden O. Pindling International Airport. He was the guest of JC Sweeting and 'Positive Friends' in conjunction with 'Speech Dynamics.' Speech Dynamics was started by JC in 1989 at the Ambassador Beach Hotel, now SuperClubs Breezes. A customs officer asked him where he was staying and he said "JC Sweeting." "I've heard about him," said the officer-"you are cleared to leave." On departing the baggage claim, he was taken to Arawak Cay where he tasted 'Conch Salad for the first time. Sunday morning at 10:00 o'clock the congregation was in anticipation of hearing from Gary. He spoke about his incarceration in the USA--for more than 25 years. Pastor J. Simms, the senior pastor at Christian Life Church who was not present, made arrangement for his staff to show TM Reece a CLC welcome and they did. After the sale of his audio book

the Toastmasters in attendance accompanied JC and Gary Reece to "Coconuts Restaurant." Those in attendance were: Deanna Morrison, Ione Hart and son, Deidre Goodman, Monique Sands, JC and Gary Reece. Former Prime Minister Perry Christie came over to greet those at the table. TM Bennett Minnis came to greet JC and was introduced to Gary Reece. Later in the evening, he accompanied JC and wife Gloria as they took part in Holy Communion at Calvary Bible Church. TM Reece was given an opportunity to speak to the congregation. After the service, he give away CD's to the members. Monday morning they were at 'Faith Temple Christian Academy' where he spoke to the high school students who embraced his message warmly. His visit was coordinated by TM Hadassah Hall. TM Denison Balfour was also in attendance. Later it was GEMS 105.9 FM Radio where they were interviewed for two hours by talk show host Michael Pintard who was in Freeport, Grand Bahama. Many

questions were asked and expertly answered by both parties. When asked about the prison, JC said that attempts were made to get into the prison but the 'lock-down' time of the inmates made it difficult to visit them. It was stated that TM Antionette Fox will be the incoming District Governor and Pamela Rolle the Bahamas Division Governor with 33 Clubs in the Bahamas. The highlight of TM Reece's visit was that Monday evening at Workers House where the room was set-up for a large audience. However, TM Reece despite the sparse group was enthusiastic and excited about his prepared message. The Toastmasters who came, were also addressed on executing public speaking skills. On Tuesday, TM Reece, dressed like a tourist, strolled downtown where he bought a few gift items and visited a Greek Restaurant--downtown Bay Street. He was delivered to the Delta terminal in plenty of time. TM Reece promised his audience to return to Nassau for more uplifting moments. *

These are the various photos that was taken at our Senior’s Night during the Fourth Quarter. On this special evening the participants on the program consisted of our seasoned and experienced members. These photos are highlights of the evening.
