To our Mons community, firstly we hope you and your loved ones are healthy. I write this introduction while we “stay at home to save lives” here in New Zealand due to Covid-19. For the lockdown Hannah, myself and our two children have been fortunate enough to isolate with Hannah's brother and his family on Dalrachney Station. (The farm where Hannah spent her childhood).

Dalrachney Station is a High Country merino sheep farm covering 20,000 acres. It is nestled under the Southern Alps of New Zealand, just one hour from Wanaka (Mons HQ). Being here on the farm, on an island nation at the bottom of the world we could not be more isolated. However, we feel more connected to the world than ever as we share these unprecedented and challenging times. As we navigate our way through Covid-19, we feel the shift within ourselves and the wider community as we all reassess what is important to us. Isolation has reminded us how meaningful it is to be able to go outside, be active and experience the freedom of nature. At Mons Royale we believe more than ever in harnessing the feeling of freedom, as we use the power of the mountains to inspire everything we do, from the products we design, the experiences we create and how we connect with our communities around the world. This colour story is inspired by the flora and fauna of our New Zealand Forests. The ‘Deep Teal’ that leads this palette has been specifically chosen as the colour that represents the essence of our native bush.

In times of turbulence we seek to look for nostalgic references that bring us comfort from the good old days. This colour story is inspired by the bold blocks and vivid colours of the 90s, and re-imagined into modern applications.

It’s an analogue thing. It’s about the good time in real time. Getting away is the goal. This story plays on the expressive faded aesthetic of the surf skate culture.
