Whether you are interested in filmmaking, music, acting, visual arts or creative writing, there are experts and aspiring artists here who share your passion. We encourage you to engage with each other, seek out new ideas and take full advantage of this opportunity to grow as an artist. workshops Empty Bowls Project: Ceramics The Empty Bowls workshop engages teens in hand-building pottery bowls and creating social awareness. Reduce, Reuse, Recreate! Turning the trash of our lives into a one-of-a-kind work of art. Come and explore the possibilities of common objects intercepted from the waste stream. See how you can manipulate, glue, and fashion a unique piece of work. Give garbage a second chance, and bring life and soul to the discarded.

Monmouth Film Festival: Lights, Camera, Action! Have you ever wondered what happens behind the camera of your favorite movie? Take a journey behind the scenes to learn and experience the different positions and equipment used to tell some of Hollywood’s best stories! Prepare to run a film set of your own!

Video Game Design Join BCC students in the Digital Computer Lab to learn about the software used for 3D game animation!

Creating Vinyl Decals: Graphic Design Starting with a handmade tag of your name created with a thick marker, students will use design software to digitize the tag and output to a vinyl decal cutter.

Photography Workshop Join Michael S. Miller from Visions Photographic Workshops as he teaches students fresh and exciting photography techniques! Bring your smartphone!

Master Class: Art and Culture of Afro Brazilian Capoeira—Cultural Dance & Martial Arts

Capoeira is an Afro Brazilian Marital Art created by Slaves in the Colonial Era of Brazil in the 1500s. It has dance-like qualities and incorporates music, dance, singing, some acrobatics, and martial arts.

Shibori in Indigo: Japanese Dyeing Techniques Do you have a passion for textiles, Japanese culture, or the color blue? Join us in creating an array of designs hand-dyed in beautiful indigo! Shibori is a series of Japanese resist dye techniques which create unique patterns on fabric by folding, binding, and sewing.

Master Class--Music Theater Duets & Trios: Partner Storytelling Bring your music theater duet or trio scene to perform, or bring a partner to sightread a scene in this interactive master class! Improve your musical storytelling by adding nuanced details while interacting with your scene partner. Students may provide sheet music, bring their own recorded accompaniment, or sheet music for a new scene will be provided. All students will participate in a harmonic singing exercise to learn about dramatic musical tension and cadence resolution in theatrical music!

Jewelry Studio Tour and Lost Wax Demo Come tour the jewelry studio and learn more about the lost wax process in the making of beautiful and unique jewelry!

Paper Kite Making Paint and draw on your paper kite kit, then learn how to fold and create your personal paper kite—ready to fly! Take your kite outside to test out its flying potential between CVA and PAC (or in front of Monmouth Museum on the grassy area), and take it home when you’re done having fun! *Please do not leave any kites at Brookdale, and keep all kites out of the trees and bushes.*

Writing & Art Join Project Write Now’s instructors as we invigorate our writing using art as inspiration—aka ekphrastic writing. Meander through the gallery and spend time viewing artwork through a writer’s lens. Then explore what form your writing takes—poetry, flash fiction, reflective pieces—with time to share at the end.

Business of Wearable Art Students will create their own piece of wearable art—a hand painted pin. They will also learn how it is possible to use their talent to create a business. Examples of wearable art (hand painted clothing and jewelry) that can be made and sold will be shown.

Whose Line Is It, Anyway? Come test your improv skills with thespian friends! Students will play a number of interactive improv games such as “Expert,” “Party Quirks,” and of course, “Whose Line.” If you think improv is easy, come try this out!

Auditioning for Theatre & Musical Theatre This workshop will review and explore the key components to auditioning successfully for plays, musicals, performance programs, and college. From combating nerves and how to present yourself, to choosing appropriate material and getting the most out of your 16 bars or allotted time, this workshop will cover the essentials of auditioning in various settings. Learn the skills and build the confidence necessary to nail your upcoming audition!
