Executive Pro Dr. Soheil Saadat Founder & CEO of GenieMD

CREATING SUCCESSFUL COMPANIES HAS BECOME SOMETHING OF A TRADITION FOR DR. SOHEIL SAADAT, FOUNDER AND CEO

OF BISHOP RANCH-BASED GENIEMD. Two of his previous companies

were created right here at Bishop Ranch, and he is underway in building a successful third. His current company has developed a cloud-based mobile telemedicine platform that allows patients to interact seamlessly with their physicians in several ways using their smartphones, from video visits to electronic prescriptions to chronic care management. The product is currently in use in many clinics and hospitals around the world. Dr. Saadat speaks with a clear calm voice, and he is candid about the large number of serious and well-funded players in the field of telemedicine. “We have plenty of competitors in this marketplace,” he explains, “and some of them are doing rather well. Healthcare in general is a very complex market to be in and of the many fields I have worked in, including the financial and the pharmaceutical, healthcare is perhaps the most complex. It can be frustrating but also rewarding.” But clearly those frustrations are outweighed by the positives Dr. Saadat finds in the field and in the progress he and his employees have made in his five-year-old company.

“Perhaps the most appealing part of this work is the social benefit,” he says. “You see how people can use the product and the various services to help create better access and experience to healthcare at a lower cost.” Dr. Saadat received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. In 1990 he founded Scientific Software, Inc., a world leader in the chromatography and scientific data management markets, with its products deployed in major pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. SSI was acquired by Agilent Technologies in 2005. In 2005 he founded Prodiance Corporation, a global leader in enterprise risk management solutions. Prodiance was acquired by Microsoft Corporation in 2011. He founded GenieMD in 2012. When not busy founding yet another company at Bishop Ranch, Dr. Saadat enjoys mentoring young entrepreneurs, walking the Blackhawk hills, playing golf, driving fast cars and spending time with his family.

Save Time. Save Save the Planet

Booster Fuels At Bishop Ranch It’s one of those “Why didn’t I think of that” ideas, so obvious and full of good sense that we now wonder how we ever lived without it. But now Booster Fuels, the gas-delivered-toyour-car-at-work fuel amenity at Bishop Ranch, is here and the numbers of users prove just what a great idea it is. Since the purple Booster truck started providing gas to vehicles at Bishop Ranch in October of last year, almost 1,900 people have used the service — with over 15,000 fill-ups requested! And the demand is rising. Yet there’s more to it than the convenience. The price is often less than that at most nearby gas stations. If you factor in the cost of the gas and wear and tear on the car in traveling to the station, the cost of all those trips hits just over $50,000! And there are other kinds of savings.

Through July of this year, Bishop Ranch employees saved 3,895 hours of time they would have spent traveling to get gas. And they would have rolled up 22,747 miles on their odometers getting to those gas stations. And we can’t forget the environmental benefit. Letting Booster come to your car instead of taking the car to the gas station over the last nine months has meant a net reduction of over 22,000 pounds of reduced carbon emissions. So, if you want to save money, save the headache of driving to the gas station, and do a little something to save the planet — sign up for Booster Fuels and do all three. For more information, go to boosterfuels.com

National Parklet h Bartlett Parklet

For the last three years, Bishop Ranch employees have enjoyed the Bartlett Parklet, a cozy portable hangout named after the original pear orchards that once grew on the parcel of land that is now Bishop Ranch. This fun, compact structure provides a great community gathering space open for all to enjoy — the perfect spot to eat lunch, read a book, or convene a quick meeting with coworkers. And since the parklet rotates around the Bishop Ranch complexes, you never know when it might appear in your parking lot. We’re reminding you about the parklet because September 15 is National Parklet Day. A parklet is a parking space or other small space temporarily converted to a park to provide enhanced amenities such as green space or seating. Parklets were first seen in San Francisco in 2005 when Rebar, a San Francisco art and design studio, converted a single metered parking space into a temporary public park in downtown San Francisco. These clever conversions have since caught on around the country and Bishop Ranch is proud to provide one.

ommunity Support

JDRF Walk Bishop Ranch is teaming up with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in its annual Walk for the Cure. It’s a fun event that gives people with Type 1 Diabetes—along with their family, friends and co-workers—the opportunity to raise money for life-changing T1D research. You can join up with any one of the three JDRF teams—family, corporate or school/youth organizations. And you don’t have to be a family member or a co-worker to join. The point is to show your support by doing the walk with others who share your interest in curing T1D. The Bay Area One Walk, hosted by Bishop Ranch, will take place at BR2600 on Sunday, October 15. Check-in is at 9:30am, and the three-mile walk gets underway at 11am. To register, go to: walk.jdrf.org/EastBay.

Hop on the Bike, Cruise to the Hopfest Just remember that the order is important: The bike ride, then the beer! The annual V3 Hopfest — the Veterans’ Victory Velo (V3) bike ride and craft beer festival — is on Saturday, September 16. Hosted by the Dougherty Valley/San Ramon (DVSR) Rotary, this fun-filled two-part event includes scenic bike rides at four different distances: 15, 30, 60, or 100 miles. The Hopfest at trail’s end will feature craft beers from 20 to 25 California breweries. Register for one or both activities at the event website: v3hopfest.com/index.html. Sentinels of Freedom, a 501(c)(3) national organization with headquarters in Bishop Ranch 11, is a primary beneficiary of the bike ride.

The Weekly Blast: Know What’s Up, Save Some Cash, Follow the Trucks If you’re not already getting the Bishop Ranch Weekly News emailed to you every Tuesday, you’re missing out on a whole lot of fun, savings and events on the horizon. The weekly email “blast” is the best way to know everything that’s going on in and around Bishop Ranch. Signing up to receive it in your inbox makes perfect sense because getting the blast means you’re likely to be among the first to learn about the many events at Bishop Ranch and the surrounding community. Such as noontime seminars, concerts, bike rides and festivals.

A lot of our messages focus on transportation, like the BRiteBikes being free, the Scoop carpooling community and the autonomous buses that are in the works. You’ll read it here first. And we all enjoy eating, so there’s always plenty of stuff about food: a seminar on shopping for the paleo diet, a meeting on healthy cooking for the busy family; a cooking class with a local chef. We also let you know about ALL the food trucks and where they’ll be every week. Don’t wait. Email us at amenities@bishopranch.com and we’ll add you to the list and blast some good news your way every Tuesday.
