Security Bank, Insurance Agency take 6 awards in Best of the Best Winners: Interacting with people is what makes jobs fun By Kyle Troutman

ecurity Bank of Southwest Missouri has been serving Cassville customers since Dec. 13, 1985, and its customers showed their appreciation this year by showing the bank and its insurance agency with six Best of the Best awards, including some repeats. The bank repeated a win as Best Bank, and Cristie Batsche retained her honor as Best Teller. Jeff Parsons, who won the Best Loan Officer award last year, won for Best Customer Service (individual) this year, and the bank won Best Customer Service (company) for the first time. Also making their marks this year were Security Insurance Agency, winning for Best Insurance Agency, and Jeanette Barber, grabbing Best Insurance Agent. Jon Horner, president of the bank for the past eight years, said the numerous awards show how the bank’s 30 employees are succeeding in their commitment to more than 4,000 customers. “We are extra appreciative of this vote of confidence from the community,” he said. “We are gratified the community has voted us Best Bank and Best Customer Service, and it means a lot because we pride ourselves on great, friendly service. “It’s one thing for a businesses to say they want to do something, but do they walk the walk? Our staff takes tremendous pride in being service-oriented, and we are locally-owned, so we know our customers, go to church with them and see them in the grocery store.” Horner said the bank employees’ goal is to always treat the customer how they would want to be treated. “It comes down to doing the little things, like being accurate, returning phone calls on time and giving people prompt decisions,” Horner said. Horner said another aspect is com-

Kyle Troutman/editor@cassville-democrat.com munity involvement, which goes outside the bank’s doors. “A big thing is investing in the community and organizations in the community, so we have to do those big things and those little things each day.” Horner said the bank has a threestep approach to customer service that started more than six years ago. “First, give great, friendly service,” Horner said. “Second, make prompt, local decisions. Third, be committed to Barry County. Winning the award
affirms this, and that’s what we always strive for.”

Batsche, a 12-year teller at Security Bank and 16-year career teller, said she was excited to be named Best Teller for the second straight year.
“It’s exciting,” she said. “It’s nice to know that people value me. I always try to be polite and be myself.” Batsche said she assists about 50 customers on a daily basis, and a little more than that on Fridays. “The thing I enjoy most is getting to talk to people every day,” she said. “You make lots of friends here.” Horner said Batsche is a genuine person, and it’s easy for her customers to see. “Christie is so proud of her customers and they love her,” he said. “She really cares, is friendly and is good at doing her job. That’s why she has won the last two years.”
Best Customer Service (individual) Parsons, senior vice president and executive officer, has been with Security Bank for 14 years, supervising and making loans. “[This award is] not just for me, but for the bank,” he said. “We all work at
a good place and that makes it easy to take care of people, and that’s what I enjoy doing.” Parsons said he helps about 30 people per day, either by phone or in person, and he just follows the golden rule. “I treat others like I’d like to be treated,” he said. “It’s the same thing I said when I started here in 2001. If you are being honest, customers will trust you have their best interests in mind, and what’s good for the customer is good for the bank.” Parsons said he enjoys being a problem-solver and helping people succeed. “I like to make loans to people who are not afraid to work,” he said. “People
would always tell my grandpa he was lucky, and he’d say, ‘The harder I work, the luckier I get.’” Horner said Parsons’ knowledge is one of his greatest assets. “Jeff is a total professional,” he said. “He has a great combination of a knowing the banking business better than anybody, and the willingness to go the extra mile the customers deserve.”

A newer function of the Security organization, the Security Insurance Agency, formed in 2001 and moved to its own building in 2011. Barber, vice president of the
Insurance Department, has been with the bank since 1989 and was the only agent for the insurance agency at its inception. “This award is pretty neat, and it make you appreciate your customers for recognizing you,” she said. “My favorite thing is the people, and helping to find the right insurance at the right price.” Security Insurance Agency has more than 1,500 policies, including home, health, auto, farm and business. “If you want something and we don’t have it, we can always broker it,” Continued on Page 12

Barber said. “We have 10-15 main companies we broker with, and the biggest is auto insurance because almost everyone has a car.” Horner said Barber has done an outstanding job leading and growing the insurance agency. “She is excellent in customer service and has done a great job in creating her own identity separate from the bank,” he said. “The Insurance agency started inside the bank and continued to grow and add companies. Typically, the insurance companies want to be with someone established, but she kept at it. [Moving to its own building] was a great shot in the arm, too, because it let them create their own identity as not just part of the bank.” Starting with just one employee in Barber, the agency now has three, including two agents and one customer service representative.
