CHAPPELL CREEK Valemount’s prized jewel. Chappell Creek can boasts some of the best snow levels in the valley. There is a large parking area 58 km south of Valemount on west side of Hwy 5. Chappell is a VARDA managed area although no alpine cabin or outhouse are available in the alpine. There is a scenic 26 km trail to the alpine area with a fast elevation gain in the last 3km. This is a long trail in and we do our best to keep it maintained to standard, although due to high grooming costs and relatively low users, the area only gets groomed once or twice a week. This area boast some insane snow levels and has a mix of rolling meadows, open play areas and does provide some good climbing off of the upper and lower Tiffany Lakes.

The integrity of the mountain caribou herd using the drainages of Miledge, Chappell, and Lempriere Creeks as a wintering area is a high priority. Under the authority of the Wildlife Act snowmobiling below tree line is restricted to the trail system only until you reach the open alpine riding area. Please review the map in the staging area or files on the VARDA website and be sure you are not riding in terrain designated for the mountain caribou. Your cooperation with these closures will ensure the future use of the area.
