summer collection 2012 The Mondrina summer handbag collection was influenced by the dry arid colour palette and rich textures found on the southern peruvian coast. Hues such as fairy dust, powder buff and castoro stone, are sophisticated and neutral with a touch of whimsy. Textures of matte snake, crinkled patent, vintage washed leather and water snake capture the vast textures found in this sea side desert. Mondrina is a beautiful collision of ethnic and urban; ancient and up to the minute. It is a unique collection of vibrant handbags that holds history in both its inspiration and manufacture. A product of Peru, Mondrina is engendered via intricate craftsmanship techniques that date back to the region’s pre–Hispanic period. They are implemented today by ancestors of these indigenous Andeans who work closely with Italian Peruvian leather workers; both contributing their own artistry and acumen. Mondrina means a modern style point of view, as seen through the eyes of a cultured traveller and native new yorker. Founder, Monica Frisbie has dedicated her life to the creation of wearable art that is as interesting and thought-provoking, as it is elegant and elaborate. Featured fabrics include hand woven textiles of various origins including, alpaca, jute, exotic leathers, hair calf, cotton, feathers and other exclusive materials collected from the Andes to the Amazon; Milan to Miami, north to New York and everywhere in between. Mondrina’s expertly hand-stitched detailing and adept mingling of manifold fabrics are signature signs of the multi-dimensional line.
