New life is born on Exmoor. James Verney captured this intimate and rare moment of beauty for our July photo of the month, with a roe deer giving her fawn a wash.

James works as the maintenance manager for the Woolhanger Estate in the heart of Exmoor. “I am a keen wildlife photographer and I love to photograph the animals and birds in our local area,” James told Molton Monthly. “On my way home from work recently I spotted the roe deer with its twin fawns, but didn’t manage to get any photos. I returned early the next morning, and luckily she was in a similar location and I managed to capture this image.” You can follow James on Instagram: @verney.james
