Our first photo of the month for 2022 was chosen as the winner of the Exmoor Society’s Alfred Vowles photography competition at the end of last year.

The judges said, “It’s a truly stunning photo which celebrates both the beauty of Exmoor’s dark skies and the vital role of our wonderful NHS.”

Photographer Robin Howe told Molton Monthly, “I had only tried astrophotography once before. Nurse Amy was created by a local firm, Exmoor Welding to show support for our local NHS during the start of the pandemic and the first lockdown.”

“I was actually on my way to Dunkery Beacon that night to try and get some photos of the Milky Way over the beacon, but decided to stop at Blagdon Cross as I thought the silhouette of Nurse Amy next to the finger post would provide a nice foreground for the shot.” You can see more of Robin’s photography on Instagram: @bobby.joeno1

Whether it’s a night photo like this, landscape, wildlife, rural life, sports, special events, a local character or something else - please keep emailing us your pictures. We usually only feature one each month in the magazine, but show more on our Instagram and Facebook pages: @MoltonMonthly
