CRUISEERS INJECT MORE THAN $900 MILLION TO ROATAN The economy of Roatan received in the last decade more than 900 million dollars just for the purchases of tourist products and services made by foreigners arriving on cruise ships. Two decades ago, to capture that sum was a dream that the inhabitants, small and big businessmen, longed for. At that time, they saw Roatan as a tiny economy within an exotic universe of great opportunities. Last year alone, more than 1.2 million foreigners arrived, according to the Honduran Institute of Tourism (IHT). Each one spent an average of $ 100, in short, they left about $ 120 million. "Currently the entire economy of the island revolves practically around this industry," says Jerry Hynds, mayor of Roatan.

Poverty A few moments ago we were just talking about the “Billionaires of Honduras”, and after talk about that were now going to talk about “Poverty” because believe or not, the economy in Honduras is very “special” because there are billionaires and pours. See a man sleeping on the sidewalk, see children selling gum and cigarettes, watch people stealing food and consuming drugs is something normal in some parts of Honduras, and that is not correct. The government have to fight this kind of things, but they really do? The government tell us “The things are changing for Honduras”, but that is a big lie. You can also watch poor people in important places of Honduras, specially “The Center of Tegucigalpa”. The government don’t make their work but did we? The poverty begins with the family and their ideology, leaving all to the government is a dumb way to think. If you don’t work you are the cause of your poorness, everyone makes their own way.
