Walk Ahead
Less Is More
record-breaking 1,300 individuals stepped out in Fairfield for the Center for Family Justice’s (CFJ) annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes. Community members, local politicians and law enforcement, including Chief of Police Gary MacNamara, walked together down Post Road to draw attention to how men can break the cycles of sexual violence in society. Many local high school and college students turned out to support the initiative, and Sacred Heart University’s Delta Tau Delta fraternity received a special award for its advocacy on behalf of victims and survivors. This year’s walk raised more than $30,000 to support the crisis and supportive services CFJ provides.
inety brave souls shaved their heads at TeamBrent’s fourteenth annual St. Baldrick’s Celebration at the Westport Weston Family YMCA. Sportscaster Deb Placey and St. Baldrick’s Chairman Mike McCreesh hosted the Opening Ceremony. For the main event, participants had their heads shaved in exchange for donations to support efforts to find a cure for childhood cancers. DJ E-Train provided music and children enjoyed getting their faces painted. The event raised over $90,000 to fight childhood cancer. Aside from the federal government, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation funds more childhood cancer research grants than any other organization. F
