;.use i BY HAVE SCHLTM Enquirer contributor Before the 1997 season began, Greater Catholic League North coaches hadn't heard much about Jerrett Dean,Roger Bacon's speedy tailback. However, that won't be the case this year with most defenses now geared to slow down the Dean Express that ran rampant last year.
In the most Surprising performane by a football player last season, Dean rushed for a single-season school record 1,804 yards and scored 22 touchL downs, another Jerrett Dean school record. ning backs over the years that Jerrett must have a good season to break the records," Roger Bacon coach Dan Starkey said. Walt ' Roeckers holds Roger Bacon's career TD (33) and rushing (3,100 yards) records. So Dean needs is a 1,300-yard, 11 TD season. Dean was unstoppable as ajunior. Early in the season opposing defenses did not know what to expect from the Spartans' offense. After Dean rushed for 200-plus yards in three of the first four games,they began keying on him. Dean isn't the only reason the Spartans are picked to battle Purcell Marian for the GCL North champions. Dean is complimented by Brandon Barnes, a 5-11, 210-pound fullback who's a good blocker with 4.4 speed in the 40. "Brandon and Jerrett are best
