join Aviators'club Teams' Anderson,Turpin, Lakota West ready to challenge BY DAVE SCHUTTE ,Enquirer contributor The 1998.99 gymnastics season could prove to be exciting. Rather than just one team (Sycamore)dominating asin the past two. years, three or more schools are expected to battle for supremacy. . Anderson,Turpin and Lakota West have the talent to make a run. "This year in Cincinnati it's hard to tell," Turpin coach Gail Maundrell said."There's a lot of young kidsfrom club teams who could come in and do well." Four talented freshmen, all from club teams, join veteran Sara Yund at Anderson. The newcomers are Lindzi Howard, a transfer from Connecticut who spe' cislines in the floor exercise, Kelli Lagemann (all around), Kim Madden(allaround) and Karina Murray lbw)•

Although Sycamore returns only Katie Farr, along with experienced club gymnast Shuba Singh, the Aviators have performed well in early season meets and could be a factor later in the season. Centerville and Troy are the teams to beat in Southwestern Ohio with Dublin Coffman and Rocky River Magnificat the Northern powers. We saw Troy last week at an invitational and they were tough," Maundrell said."We haven'tseen Centerville butI understand they took first through fifth place in the bars at an invitational." Ten local schools are fielding teams this season, Walnut Hills is the newcomer. The other Cincinnati schools are Lakota East, Seven Hills, Cincinnati Country Day, Edgewood and Hamilton Badin. These teams will compete for in Februthe city championship ' o oweri bY +I,ha ary at Tu m f-11regional meet to determine the

' "I'm pretty excited and thrilled with the girls," said Hester, a senior atthe University of Cincinnati. `We have a lot of good individuals and they all supporteach other." Although Maundrell prefers the underdog role forTurpin, the Spartans can't be taken lightly. Sara Scheeren,a transfer from Boca Raton, Fla.,joins returning veterans Stephanie Autry (uneven bars), Liz Engelhardt (all-around), Christine Dietz (allaround) and Andrienne Prem (floor exercise).
