BeChristensen Original Samer™ Collection BeChristensen introduced the SAMER bracelet collection in 2005. Our SAMER bracelets are handmade by traditional Sami artisans in the northern part Sweden also known by the name Lapland. We have more than 50 artisans making our SAMER jewellery. SAMER bracelets are exceptional. Design combined with history. Delicate and intricate ornamentation of pewter thread sewn onto leather. The pewter embroidery stitched in braided or other ancient patterns. Handmade buttons made from shed reindeer antlers act as the fastener. THE HISTORY The Sami are the indigenous people of northern Sweden, Norway, Finland, and the Kola Peninsula of Russia. They are among the largest ethnic groups in Europe. The Sami are the descendants of nomadic people of northern Scandinavia. Reindeer have always been essential to the survival of the Sami. The Sami reindeers are domesticated and shed their antlers annually. This horn, a beautiful, durable material from the reindeer’s antlers, is used in jewellery and as decorative elements. Sami artisans have been using spun pewter thread to embroider on reindeer leather and cloth for hundreds of years. The thread is coiled pewter invented by the Sami from melted tin alloy and 4% silver. The art of working with pewter wire disappeared completely in the early 1800s. It was revived in 1905 when the discovery of old tools led to a renewed interest in pewter wirework. Since then a variety of designs have been made, but until recently the jewellery was only worn by the Sami. TODAY Because of the unique designs and the history, the bracelets have been drawing the interest of celebrities and fashionistas around the world. Not women alone, also many fashion conscious men are today wearing the SAMER bracelets. They don’t wear just one – they wear many and often mix them with other bracelets to create a personal look. Today BeChristensen SAMER bracelets are sold in more than 250 fashion- and jewellery shops around the world. The bracelets have been featured in most Danish fashion magazines and on the cover of Elle, Cosmopolitan and other international fashion magazines.
