Power-to-X require high demands for valves Power-to-X (P-t-X) is a groundbreaking method for converting renewable energy (RE) into climate-friendly fuels such as hydrogen and e-fuels. The first phase of the process is electrolysis, where water is split into hydrogen and oxygen using green energy from renewable sources such as wind and solar energy. The hydrogen can be used directly as fuel in the transport sector or converted into e-fuels such as methanol or ammonia, which can be used as fuel in heavy transport such as aviation or shipping. Electrolysis

Electrolysis is an electrochemical process where an electric current is passed through an electrolyte, and chemical compounds are converted into new substances, often including elements. Water (H2O) is typically converted into oxygen (O2) and hydrogen (H2). There are different principles within electrolysis, such as Alkaline Electrolyte Cell (AEC), Alkaline Electrolyte Membrane (AEM), Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM), and Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cell (SOE), and each principle requires different equipment and components depending on the medium, process pressure, and process temperature.

Fuel cells

Fuel cells can convert fuel and air directly into electricity, heat, and water in an electrochemical process. Hydrogen (H2), methanol (CH3OH), and ammonia (NH3) can be used as fuel in fuel cells depending on the chosen technology. By using fuel cells, higher efficiency is achieved and the emission of harmful combustion products, as in direct fuel combustion, is avoided.

Carbon Capture and Storage

CCUS - Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage - is a collective term for various methods of capturing CO2 either directly from emitting sources or from the atmosphere. The Co2 can permanently be stored in geological reservoirs or be used for other purposes such as food and beverage production, chemicals, building materials, and synthetic fuels for airplanes, where fossil carbon can be replaced.

Pyrolysis

Pyrolysis is a process where biomass products are converted into specific residual products using various technologies. The process releases pyrolysis gas, which is a mixture of hydrogen (H2), carbon monoxide (CO), methane (CH4) and bio-oil.

Back pressure regulator An Equilibar back pressure regulator is a valve consisting of a diaphragm separating two chambers which are applied with process pressure and an adjustable reference pressure. The regulator is installed downstream in the process and this is how it maintains the pressure in the process. The membrane equalizes the pressure between the reference pressure and the process pressure in a ratio of 1:1 and if the process pressure is raised compared to the reference pressure, the membrane is affected so that the process pressure is automatically relieved. The back pressure regulator can be used both as a back pressure regulator or for flow regulation. In both cases, the regulator must be part of a control loop. A control loop consists of the following components: Flow meter or pressure transmitter PID regulator Pilot pressure regulator Equilibar back pressure regulator MODU Valves is of course a competent supplier of all the above components.

Back Pressure regulator for tank blanketing: The use of back pressure regulator for tank blanketing, makes it possible to electronically adjust the pressure in the container or tank.

We have launched four new standards that have created great attention within the selection of plant-critical components. As a company that has already achieved the highest SIL 3 approval, we are now setting new standards for documentable and uncompromising quality with the introduction of serial numbers, 100% traceability, and production logs. Our One-to-One certificates raise the bar and differentiate themselves from traditional, generic certificates that have been the norm in the industry so far. We have eliminated any doubt about the validity of the certificates by including unique serial numbers, functional tests, material and test values, as well as pictures of the specific valves. With these standards, we offer our customers the highest degree of security and confidence when it comes to selecting plant-critical components.
