SPECIAL NEEDS #296 Social Skills Pre-Req: IEP Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12 *This is a social support group offered through our Special Education Department. This is an elective course offering instruction in social skills and group dynamics. It meets daily and will include social skills, community service, and group support.

SPECIAL EDUCATION Admittance to Special Needs courses requires a student to have a current IEP in place. #326 SN Basic Skills Pre-Req: IEP Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12 This course focuses on functional academic skills in math, reading, and writing. A special needs teacher does this through individual or small group instruction. Semester I, Semester II. One hour. #327 SN Transition Skills Pre-Req: IEP Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12 This course provides instruction and practice of skills in the areas of home and daily living. Social skills and self-advocacy skills are also included in this course. Semester I, Semester II. One hour. #329 Independent Skills Pre-Req: IEP Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12 This course is designed for special needs students who need independent or small group instruction in a special course area. A special needs teacher teaches this course. Semester I, Semester II. One hour. #292 Developmental Adaptive Phy Ed Pre-Req: IEP Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12 This course is designed for special needs students who have difficulty in various motor skills and is stated as part of their IEP. The activities will include team and individual sports. It will also include activities to be used for recreation/leisure. Semester I, Semester II. One hour. #382 Work Experience Pre-Req: IEP Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12 Prerequisite: Employability Skills This program is designed for students with IEPs. This course provides an opportunity to learn entry-level work skills in a variety of work settings. Students may or not be paid for their employment. Student’s work hours are integrated into the regular school day. The goal of this program is for each student to develop job skills for gainful employment in the future. Semester I, Semester II. # 337 Employability Skills (Mrs. Strand) Pre-Req: IEP Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12 This course is designed to help IEP students prepare themselves to attain and maintain skills necessary for job placement. Emphasis is on social skills and attitudes, career exploration and choices, the interview process, employer expectations, decision-making skills, interpersonal relationships, related academics, personal health, and an appreciation of individual skills and contributions. Semester I, Semester II. # 331 Pre-Vocational Skills Pre-Req: IEP Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12 This course is designed for special needs students. It provides an opportunity for students to be exposed to a variety of hands-on work-related skills. Students will work together to make projects that will be sold and proceeds will be used for community experiences. Semester I, Semester II.
