Chapter 3 Action Steps With your team, engage in the following action steps to review and implement the learning from this chapter. 1. When using figure 3.1, Building a Site Intervention Team (page 57), note that the third column is titled Staff Members Best Trained to Meet This Need. Few schools are so blessed to have full-time staff in each essential role listed in the first column. So, ask yourself who is the best person on your campus, readily available, to take on each of these roles? For example, perhaps your school does not have a fulltime reading specialist. Do you have a teacher at your school who was formerly a special education teacher, has a master’s degree in reading, or has a reading specialist certificate? 2. Prioritize your next steps. After reading this chapter, you will probably have identified numerous next steps for both the leadership team and intervention team. Revisit the 1-2-3 action planning activity (see page 68). Make a list of goals for each team, and then prioritize your lists. What tasks must teams do immediately? What tasks can teams do over the course of the current school year? What things will probably need to wait until next school year? Don’t spend too much time on tasks that are more than a semester away. Instead, intensely plan for those tasks teams can accomplish immediately.
