Get the Most Out of Your Networking with Exhibitors

Mark your calendars for the Spring Summit Virtual Expo Showcase at 1:00 p.m. EST on Monday, March 4th!

One of the many benefits of NE’s Spring Summit is networking It’s also one of the things our attendees love the most While we often prioritize networking with other attendees and entrepreneurs, there’s also great benefit in networking with the Spring Summit exhibitors You may meet someone you can collaborate with, feel inspired by, or even offer support to

As the Sponsorship team, here are our suggestions for the best ways to interact and engage with exhibitors:

y Complete your Whova profile so exhibitors can know your niche and location

y Direct message exhibitor staff before, during, and/or after the Summit: introduce yourself, ask about their favorite part of their business, follow-up on ways you can partner and stay in touch

y Interact with exhibitors’ representatives using the community board posts

y Attend live Exhibitor Spotlight Sessions provided by exhibitors Be sure to interact with them by asking questions or sharing what you have learned

y Visit the virtual booths and browse their videos, pictures, products, handouts and other content to learn more about their company

y Talk to exhibitors live during the Virtual Expo Showcase on Monday, March 4th from 1 p m to 2 p m EST

y Chat with exhibitors through their booth chat box Share what you like about their booth, products and/or services

y Enter exhibit giveaways and promotions

y Participate in the Passport Contest to win prizes! Earn a stamp at each booth by liking the booth, chatting with the staff through the chat box and pushing the “Passport Stamp” button at their booth When you earn at least 13 stamps, you will be eligible for the Spring Summit prizes! As a bonus, you can earn up to 1 0 CPEU for interacting with exhibitors, either during the designated Virtual Expo Showcase or on your own time during the Spring Summit live dates

Exhibitors can be found by clicking “Exhibitors” along the left sidebar of the desktop version or on the “Exhibitors” button on the mobile app

Exhibitors are ready to share their resources and help support your business Get the most out of your networking by meeting with them during the Summit and then reconnecting afterwards Don’t miss out on this fun way to inspire your business growth!

5 Tips for Making Meaningful Connections at a Virtual Conference

After being an NE member for years, I finally attended the 2023 Spring Summit I had no idea how valuable the experience would be as I launched my new business last year Believe it or not, I still meet regularly with several entrepreneurs who I met during the conference These connections have been invaluable as I navigate the process of building and growing my business And the best part is – I don’t feel like I am alone in this work! Though it may seem challenging to connect during a virtual conference, these tips will support you in making the most out of your networking opportunities:

1 PUT YOURSELF ON THE MAP:

Whova allows you to create (or update) a profile with your photo, business name, contact information, location, interests and more Make sure that you complete this profile asap so that other attendees can see who you are and reach out

2 REVIEW THE FELLOW ATTENDEES

SECTION: Through Whova, you can send messages to Summit attendees and start discussion threads with ease See the “Attendees,” “Recommended” and “Community” tabs Does someone live in your location? Ask them to meet in-person for a coffee chat Do you see someone with the same interests? Arrange a virtual 1-on-1 call with them to learn more about what they are doing

3 SCHEDULE A (VIRTUAL OR IN-PERSON) MEET-UP: Did you know that attendees can schedule a group “Meet-up” session during the conference on a topic of interest or just to participate in a shared activity (hello, getting in your morning dog walk)? Last year, I scheduled a Meet-up for frequent travelers to find out how they balanced work and leisure time This Meet-up led to the development of connections with RDs who have taught me a lot about how we can achieve work-life balance while pursuing our ideal lives Schedule under “Meet-ups & Virtual Meets” on the Community Board

4 ATTEND THE NETWORKING EVENT: This may seem obvious, but it’s worth saying Though many of us are multi-taskers (myself included), try to be present for the Networking Event This means turn your camera on, unmute yourself and take the time to get to know the people you are chatting with This is also an excellent time to introduce yourself and share your business goals

5 PROPOSE VIRTUAL, POSTCONFERENCE MEET-UPS: One of the best suggestions that another participant made (thank you, Pam!) is to schedule a post-conference Meetup Our small group who met at the Summit’s Networking Event still meets once a month to chat about business successes, challenges and important resources!

Networking Event Guidelines

JOIN US! Be sure to join us at the Networking Event at noon EST/9am PST on Wednesday, March 6th

Virtual Networking is a great way to meet people and make connections! Here is how it will work at this year’s Spring Summit:

Access the Networking Event via the Agenda in Whova Once the event starts, there will be a short introduction by our moderator The moderator will assign a few questions from the Networking Event Questions listed on page 9, then send

attendees to breakout rooms Use that time to introduce yourself, get to know the other attendees in your breakout room, and use the assigned questions as a conversation starter After a set time period, you will regroup on the main call with all other attendees This process will repeat throughout the duration of the event, providing you the opportunity to mix and mingle with various attendees in different breakout rooms

Please keep your camera turned on during the event to facilitate interaction with other attendees

M Loufman, MPH, RD, LD, CLC, CCRC, owner of The Global Harvest RD Larissa has been strongly influenced by her Ukrainian heritage and loves learning about different cultures, languages, history and foods on her international travels She will meet you anywhere there is a beach, water and sunshine

PRO TIP: Take the time to review the Spring Summit agenda, click around on Whova to see what and who you can find, and connect with speakers/exhibitors before or after their presentations!

“Networking is not about just connecting people. It’s about connecting people with people, people with ideas and people with opportunities.”

Networking Event Questions

Unsure what to ask fellow attendees? We’ve got you covered To further kick-off the conversation with other attendees, we have curated a collection of prompts to get you talking Below is the list of questions we will use in our breakout rooms during the Networking Event on Wednesday, March 6th at 12:00 pm EST Mark your calendar to attend, then keep these questions handy to get the conversation flowing!

1 Looking back, what was your favorite resource that helped get you started?

Connect Challenge

2 What excites you the most about your current job or business?

3 What has been your biggest takeaway from this event?

4 How do you stay connected with other RDNs in the field throughout the year?

5 What marketing strategy has brought you the biggest Return-on-Investment (ROI)?

6 What’s one of your favorite things about NE?

7 Name one person who has played a vital role in getting you where you are and why?

8 What is your biggest fear about getting started?

9 How do you stay organized?

How do you stay connected with your audience?

Take your networking a step further by participating in a brand new feature of this year’s Spring Summit: the Connect Challenge! Here’s how it works:

STEP 1

Join us for the Networking Event at noon EST on Wednesday, March 6th At that time, we will include more detailed instructions about the challenge

STEP 2

Once the formal Networking Event is completed, we challenge you to connect with five other Spring Summit attendees via the Whova platform by the end-of-day Wednesday

STEP 3

Enjoy your new relationships and continue to cultivate them after Spring Summit ends

This is a great opportunity to expand on the connections made during the formal Networking Event, as well as to proactively reach out to others in the Spring Summit community

If you are unable to make the live Networking Event at noon EST on Wednesday, you can still participate! Just find the instructions for the Connect Challenge under the Networking Event description in Whova

Looking forward to connecting with you then!

Spotlight Sessions and Meet-ups: an Extra Dose of Networking

Spring Summit gives you the chance to interact with both exhibitors and other participants via Meet-ups This is how they work:

“Spotlight Sessions” are events on the Agenda that are hosted by our exhibitors These not only give the exhibitors a chance to go more in-depth about their product or service, they also allow you to network with the exhibitor, ask questions and be in a live meeting with other dietitians Note that you cannot claim CPE units for Spotlight Sessions. By attending the sponsored Exhibitor session you agree to share your contact information with our sponsors Recordings will be available after the

Spotlight Sessions, but you miss out on the opportunity to ask questions live

“Meet-ups” are hosted by attendees and can be held before or after Spring Summit starts each day (see the schedule on pages 3-4 for exact times) Each attendee is allowed to host one Meet-up Please note that Virtual Meet-ups may not be created for the express purpose of promoting a business or service, as the goal of such Meet-ups is to foster conversation and camaraderie If you set up a Meet-up, please attend and lead that Meet-up so others joining in the experience will benefit from the networking opportunity

1 Make a Plan: Create an ideal environment for learning and focus during the Summit Block off your calendar to dedicate uninterrupted time to sessions Set up a comfortable working area with energizing snacks and drinks Additionally, keep items nearby that help you relax or stay engaged, like an exercise mat for stretching or a fidget toy for breaks between sessions If you are unable to attend the session live, set a time to watch the recording

2 Write (some of) It Down: Remember that the sessions are recorded for access after the Summit Instead of frantic notetaking during presentations, leverage the benefits of the virtual format Reflect briefly at the end of each session and jot down key points or notable ideas Note timestamps for significant insights to review later in the recorded videos Be sure to ask questions and chat with fellow attendees

3 Network with Intent: Networking can be daunting, whether you're an introvert or a social butterfly Consider prenetworking by reaching out to a few individuals beforehand—a colleague, exhibitor or speaker—to schedule a virtual coffee or a short meet-up during the conference Reach out to the presenters if you want more information on their area of expertise It’s not as easy to have spontaneous interactions in the virtual setting It helps to be active in discussions on the event app

4 Embrace Enjoyment: Make this Summit a memorable and enjoyable experience You can get creative with your setup to add a festive touch Personalize your space or attire to reflect your expectations and aspirations for the

Summit There is a lot to do within the Whova platform, from sharing photos to asking questions and gathering resources Participating in challenges can also lead to exciting prizes and opportunities for engagement
