Bubble Town 49: The Dancing Girls Author: Nikhil R. It was a warm summer June morning. A light wind started to blow through Bubble Town. Farmer Tim, the most famous farmer in town, was harvesting some hay for the cows. He was about to get the last pile of hay and put it in the wheelbarrow when a newspaper flew out from the fireplace. “How strange,” Tim said curiously. He read the newspaper. On the last page he saw a huge headline that said ‘A big show is in town and the dancing girls are performing at the dance festival. The show will be held at Mary’s bike wash garage tonight and the boys can dance if they like. Please remember that everyone gets to share their new dance moves and have fun! The festival lasts from 5:00 pm to 8:45 pm.’ Tim was very excited that there was a festival today. He remembered that Sara, the most fabulous chef at making cheese, was also a dancing girl in the year 2010. That was the time when Tim was in India and watched her dance on TV. Tim ran out of the barn and headed on his way to the Cheesy café, the grandest café on Earth. It has cheesy cheesecakes, tasty cheese tarts, and many more types of cheesy food. When Tim entered the café, Sara and Adam said “Here comes our favorite customer!” “Morning Sara, morning Adam!” Tim said. “I have great news! There is a dance festival tonight at the bike wash garage and since you are one of the most popular dancing girl in the history of dancing, you should perform too!” Sara was very excited to hear the good news from Tim. She was so excited that she started to plan her dance steps. Sara and Tim went to Sharma Rai Medical Clinic to tell Dr. Nikhil about the dance festival. Dr. Nikhil was working in the lobby at his desk typing the names of his patients when Sara and Tim came in. “Hello my good friends” Dr. Nikhil said in a sweet voice. “How can I help you?” Do you have a sprained ankle? Got grassy green grass in your eyes? Stomach ache because you two ate too many sweet and sugary treats like cake, candy canes, Hershey chocolate, or Kit-‐Kat? “Fortunately Doctor, we came here to tell you something exciting” Sara said. Tonight, there is dance festival to be held at the bike wash garage. She told Dr. Nikhil that the dancing girls, that is Violet and she will perform and the boys will join in. “That is incredible news!” Nikhil exclaimed. “Can my patients attend the festival as well?” Nikhil asked Tim. “Sure, I don’t see why not if it is okay with Sara” he said. “Of course Farmer Tim Krishna Borden!” Sara said. “It is a festival of course and everybody is invited!” Sara, Farmer Tim, and Dr. Nikhil went to the orchard. That’s where fruit and vegetable pickers Travis Lee and Dylan Lee pick healthy fruits and vegetables that are good for you. “Hello everybody!” Travis and Dylan said. “What brings you all here? Dr. Nikhil told them all about the dance festival. “Great news” Travis exclaimed. Would you all like to taste the refreshments we are making? “Refreshment is a fancy word for food” Dylan finished. “Yes!” everyone yelled. “Okay” Travis said. “This is a baguette, a French bread. Sometimes we add toppings like cut tomatoes and coriander leaves. Some adults add even more yummy toppings like cheese, chili peppers, and other toppings that are spicy and make a delicious bruschetta. Do you mind helping get all the food ready for dinner?” “Okay!” everybody said at once.

Bubble Town 49: The Dancing Girls 9 (continued) Farmer Tim, Chef Sara, Dr. Nikhil, and the fruit pickers, Travis and Dylan, went to the Grand Hotel, the grandest hotel in town. That is where hotel managers Bob and his little sister, Violet, work and help new guests. “Hello guys!” Sara said in the singing voice just like when she sang beautifully when she was a dancing girl in 2010. “Hello!” Bob and Violet said together. “How can we help you all?” “We have great news for you two!” Travis said. He told them about the dance festival. “Good!” Bob said. “I’ve got everything we need.” “I have another wagon!” Tim said. “It stores supplies for the huge dance festival.” “Awesome!” Sara said, and they all went to the dance festival place. At Laura’s bike wash garage, Sara asked Dr. Nikhil and Chef Adam to put posters of her picture on the walls. “Travis and Dylan, you two will get the chairs and I will get the drinks!” Farmer Tim gave orders to everyone.” Farmer Tim then brought the drinks and mango smoothie. He looked at Sara and gave her thumbs up. Then he stared at all of the supplies in the wagons attached to his tractor. How will I get all the supplies out of the wagon in time as it is very heavy and it is already 4:30 pm? Tim thought to himself. One by one, he carried all of the supplies to the Barn. At last, the farmer put all of the supplies on the kitchen counter top. “Hello bro!” tough cowboy Bob said. Bob noticed that his brother was worn out and gave him a glass of refreshing, homemade milkshake. Tim told his big brother about the dance festival. Tim showed Bob all the supplies he gathered for the festival and wondered how he and his friends will cook everything and get it to the bike wash garage. Farmer Tim Bachu sighed. I guess it is my fault finding the newspaper that said there was a dance festival at the bike wash garage tonight. “Don’t worry Tim” Bob said. You just have to concentrate on doing one thing at a time. Do you think that will solve the problem?” “I think that will help” Tim said. “I must tell my friends what you told me.” That is a good thing a Farmer can do for a tough cowboy!” Bob said. Thanks!” Farmer Tim said and went to the bike wash garage. InBobe the bike wash garage, Dr. Nikhil and Adam were putting up posters of dancing girl Sara while Sara was busy picking how many instruments should the orchestra play in the music room while her fellow mates, Violet, Bob, and Mary. Travis and Dylan were trying to decide who will be the waiter. Tim came in and cleared his throat. He told his friends that his big brother taught him that if you concentrate on doing one thing at a time, you can finish all your work. He told everyone to put their fist in if they thought this is a good idea. Everyone put their fist in and yelled, “TEAMWORK!” Now let’s tell all the village people about the dance festival Tim suggested to his friends. “Wait for me!” Mary’s sister Victoria cried. The group went to visit Mr. Pickles at the pickle stand. Some people think Mr. Jay Pickles is a real pickle and kind of crazy. People in Bubble town think he is a human who loves wearing a pickle costume. “Hello, Mr. Pickles!” Adam said. “Hola everybody,” Mr. Pickles said, “what brings you all here?” It was Laura’s turn to talk about the dance festival. “Awesome!” Mr. Pickles said and offered to bring his pickle juice to the festival. Dr. Nikhil wondered where they would keep all of Mr. Pickles’ pickle juices. “I know where we can keep it!” Tim said and whistled for his brother Bob who was driving the tractor.

Bubble Town 49: The Dancing Girls 9 (continued) “Did someone say another wagon?” Bob asked. “I have another wagon. Just give me what you have and I will put it in the wagon.” Farmer Tim gave the pickle juices to Bob. “Hey, Pickles,” Travis said, “you can come with us because we are going to tell some other people that the dance festival is coming soon.” “That would be muy bien!” Mr. Pickles said. “I want to come with you too!” Bob said. The thirteen townspeople went to visit Mr. Pizza. Most people think Mr. Carlo Pizza eats pizza every day. “Hello, Mr. Pizza!” Victoria exclaimed. “Ciao my-‐a-‐good friends!” Mr. Pizza replied back. He wondered why they were all there. “We have something to tell you,” Victoria said. “Tonight, there a huge dance festival to be held at the bike wash garage and there will be girls dancing even the boys can dance.” “I must scream into the world because this is-‐a-‐good news!” Mr. Pizza said in a jolly voice. I am going to cook some food but I have no-‐a-‐food ingredients. Do not worry!” Tim said. We will find some food. Victoria told Farmer Tim that he had food on his tractor. She told Mr. Pizza to make cheese ravioli with the ingredients from Farmer Tim. “Thank you so-‐a-‐much Victoria!” Carlo Pizza said. Mr. Pizza began cooking his food and the other townspeople went to others about the dance festival. Bob put the packets of grilled fish on the wagon and got ready for dinner. This was no regular dinner, it was a Bubbletown town/family reunion. Mr. Pizza brought his cheese ravioli, Dr. Nikhil made minestrone soup and other types of soup, and Tim and Bob brought lots of food and drinks for everyone. Everyone had dinner together at the bike wash garage before the dance festival began. The dance festival was a huge success. Everyone loved Sara’s dance program. After she finished, the entire town got up and danced together as music played late into the night.

The Race! Author: Zui C. I am a fast runner. I like to run 5k races. Today was my first race I have ever ran. I was scared head to toe. When I got in line, the gun fired and everyone ran a little slow. In the middle of the race, I speeded up and pretended the finish line was up ahead. I ran some more and the real finish line was up ahead. I crossed my fingers that I would win something that would be for good use. After the race was over, an announcer called my name. I was in the restroom with my Mama. Just in time, I got my trophy! Now I am not as scared when I run races. I ran three more races. I win medals. I love running!

The Day I Went Whale Watching Author: Kavita A. We were going to San Francisco for four days and Monterey for four days for spring vacation. The day I went whale watching I was really excited. We wore double pants, a fleece and a coat because it was cold out on the water. When I went whale watching I saw whale breath. You can see its breath because it stays in the whale for 5 minutes and turns into fog. You can also smell its breath. When you see its tail come out of the water it means the whale will take a deep dive into the water. You might not see the whale for 5 minutes or more. I also saw dolphins and seals in the ocean. Seals like hanging on rocks. Dolphins might like coming and checking out the boat. Mostly I saw their fins. I really liked this trip because it was cool looking at the whales and learning more about them. I learned that on the east coast troops of whales are disappearing because people are hunting them for their food. Scientists are hoping that in the future there will be more population of whales. My Gazebo Author: Zui C. I was getting a new gazebo because Hurricane Sandy knocked down the old gazebo. I would like a gazebo in my backyard. So my Mom called some wood builders to build a gazebo. It took a long time to build a gazebo! I said, ‘when are they going to come?’ Then the doorbell rang. And my Dad opened the door. It was the men! They were going to build the gazebo. They were going to start. Once they started building, it took days. So we had to make them a shed outside my spare bedroom. I never knew that we were going to do that. Then my Dad said that we were going to paint the gazebo. I said ‘yippee!’ But I didn’t know what color we were going to paint my gazebo. Red? White? Peach? My Dad said ‘after they finish.’ One day they finished! I was ready to paint. So I waited. And one day we were going to start painting! We were going to paint it peach. So we painted it for a while and it was super-‐hot. I was sweating. But we still painted. And the next day it was very cold. I said, ‘Brrrrrrrrr’. When the gazebo was done, we all admired the gazebo. My Dad said we had to let the paint dry. And the next day we even sat in the gazebo! I love my gazebo!

Our Nation’s Capital Author: Amilia O Hi readers, this part is about the time my family and I went to Washington D.C. over the Spring Break. We went to the many restaurants, one of them was called Mandu. Mandu is a Korean word for dumpling. At the restaurant, I ate many mandu, it’s one of my favorite foods. Mandu is made with meat and vegetables inside and a crisp shell on the outside. Another place we went to was a Natural History Museum. In the museum, there were exhibits like Mummies, Mammals, Gems and Minerals, Ocean Hall, Geology, Hope Diamond, a Korean Gallery and many others. My favorite place in the museum was the gem exhibit. There were gems larger than me and also all sorts of different sizes too. My favorite part of the whole trip was riding the subway, because there was a super long escalator. The subway train moved so fast that you couldn’t even see anything outside when you were moving. We saw the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and also the White House. But we couldn’t go inside the White House or see the president. We got to walk on the Lincoln Memorial. On the way to Washington D.C., we stopped in Baltimore and got to visit the aquarium. We got to see lots of sea creatures some of them were sharks, dolphins, jellyfish, fish, stingray, and starfish. When we went to get some water they were selling it in reusable water bottles. I think it was to protect the environment. My trip was very fun and also saw many things.

One of my Favorite Days Author: Shaheen B. It was like any other Saturday morning. I ate my breakfast and got ready for soccer. When we got there I came to know that we were versing the strongest team in the league. First 15 minutes neither team scored a goal. While we were close to half time we scored two goals. So at the end of half time we were leading by two goals. The spectators were enjoying the match. It was never one sided. During the second half it was going great for our team. We were defending really well. Towards the end of the match, we scored another two goals. I can't find word to express that extreme happiness. I talked about the match with my dad from soccer field to home. I felt even happier when I shared the result with my brother and mother. I was also exhausted. So went to take bath and got ready for lunch. I was hoping there would be my favorite lunch, spaghetti. There it was, spaghetti and meat ball. While we were having lunch, my dad surprised us by announcing that we all are going to six-‐flag. In six-‐flag I have several favorite rides but I started with the best, buccaneer ride. There was a long queue but we were busy convincing my brother to take the ride along with us, as he was a little scared. All of us enjoyed at the end. Next, we went for my another favorite ride, cup ride. In the cup ride there is a driving wheel in the center of the cup. When we spun the wheel, the cup spun too. We tried our best to spun it really fast but the blue and red cups were faster. At the end of cup ride I felt my head was still spinning. Our last ride was car racing ride. We were driving and bumping into each others car. All the other cars got stuck but mine, as I was at at the front. It was a lot of fun. It felt like I have won a race car competition. It is getting late. So we came out of the park. When we were coming out, people were distributing different types of snacks. I was a little bit hungry and wanted to eat some tasty fries. I proposed french fries from burger king. This snack made me feel happy and energetic again. French fries was delicious. On our way back, I asked my parents about our dinner. My preference was Papa Johns pizza with olive and pineapple as toppings. When me and my brother both suggested pizza, dad agreed. We picked up our pizza and went home. We all enjoyed a great testing pizza. I love playing UNO with my family. After dinner we played one round of UNO. My brother won that round. It was time to go to bed. My dad told us a fiction story on space. I think I went into deep sleep within next ten minutes. I wish all weekends are like this one. However I will be happy even if I get such a fun filled weekend once in a while.

The Best Bird Friend Forever Author: Steven C.

One summer afternoon, me and my friend were playing tic-‐tac-‐ toe in front of his house. " I sang-‐-‐-‐I won-‐-‐-‐". I rocked and he laughed. " Squawk! Squawk!" we looked up the direction of the sound and found lots of birds swarming on the roof of my friend's house. His mom came out and screamed:" Ah! it's terrifying! " followed by my friend's brother, who shouted:" Mom! are you that afraid of birds?" We started to play with the birds. One landed on my hand, another landed on my friend's shoulder. They were really funny but some just flew away when we tried to catch them. Then me and my friend got a great idea for those birds to stay with us. We decided to set up a birdfeeder. It was really successful with his parents' help and later more birds came over to stay until winter. Another day me and my friend played with the birds again and we tried to use the nets to catch them. suddenly, I screamed: stop! I see an egg in a nest!" " What! that's impossible." my friends replied. "Then come to look!" " Whoa! there really is an egg!" "yeah! Yeah!" both of us were so excited to shout. Okay, if you have water in your month now, I suggest that you somehow get rid of it. Because this is going to make you spit it out. My friend actually named the egg Cash! I mean what kind of name was that? I mean you can't spend birds! But, anyway, my friend can be crazy sometimes. We checked the egg once a while to make sure it's safe. A few weeks later, Cash transformed from an egg to a very cute baby bird. But one day, Cash flew away and never came back again. My friend kept whining until my ear hurt. We missed Cash very much and even added Cash to our BBFF list!

The Lucky Coin Author: Anjali S. Once there was a little girl named Sofia. Sofia was 7 years old and she lived in the suburbs with her parents. Sofia was not a happy girl because she never had any luck in anything she did. If she played a game that needed luck, like Money Bingo, she would never win. If there was a raffle, her name would never get called. When she went to the ice-‐cream store, they were always out of her favorite flavor – mint! One day Sofia was walking to school with her head drooping down. It happened again. Sofia had made it to the bus just in time but there were no seats left for her. So she had to walk to school instead. Suddenly, she saw something glinting on the road. She wondered it was and she walked to it to get a better view. When she got closer she saw that it was a tiny, shiny gold coin. Sofia had never seen anything like this before. Since there was no one around, she thought no one was going to pick it up, so she decided to pick it up. Just as she was about to pick it up, the bus came around and the driver said, “There was a space after all. Climb on!” Sofia put a leg on the bus but took it off immediately. She looked back at the coin glinting in the sunlight. She thought maybe the coin was lucky and it caused the bus to come around with a spot for her. She said “Just a second,” and she ran and picked up the coin before getting on the bus. When she got to her seat, she put it in her back pocket and patted it twice for a bit of luck. And for the first time in a long time, she smiled J. In school, when the teacher called her for a conference, she skipped there happily and the teacher told her she was doing a great job in class, and that made her happier. When it was Math time they played Money Bingo again. Typically she would have lost, but this time she won and got a little prize! She was even happier.

The Lucky Coin (continued) For the next few days, this kept on happening. She got picked for line leader and assistant in class. At a birthday party, there was a piñata. When it was her turn to break the piñata, she broke it on the first try! Sofia couldn’t believe how much her luck had changed and she thought it was all because of her lucky coin. One day, when Sofia was picking up the newspaper for her Dad, she saw a little notice about an auction in town. Sofia loved auctions and wanted to go there. Her parents had enough money to buy tickets for the auction so they bought three tickets. On the day of the auction, before they left, Sofia looked around for her lucky coin. But she couldn’t find it anywhere. She asked, “Mom? Dad? Have you seen a shiny gold coin?” “No,” her parents said. Sofia checked again but she couldn’t find her lucky coin. She got upset and started to cry. Her parents noticed this and they felt sorry for her. They went up to her and asked what was wrong. Sofia said, “My lucky coin is lost! And I can’t find it anywhere. Without the coin, I will never have any luck!” Her parents said, “That was not a lucky coin. It is just a regular old coin.” Sofia asked, “Then how was I getting lucky?” Her parents smiled and said, “You were happy and that’s what made you lucky. So if you are always happy you will always be lucky.” Sofia considered it for a moment and then she went off with her parents to the auction. At the auction, there were many things that were pretty but the prettiest thing that she saw was a beautiful flower vase. She asked her parents to bid on it but she was sure she wouldn’t win the bid. But to her surprise she won! After the auction, Sofia carried it home with pride. Now she understood what her parents had said. When she was happy she was lucky. From that day forward she was always happy with whatever she did and she always was lucky!

The Golden Feather Author: Hana M.

~*O*~nce long ago, there were eagles fling all around the town of N.J. But then there I saw was the king of them all! Just then he lifted his head with a beautiful crown! It was sparkly with beautiful gold red rubies! He was a beautiful bird. One thing I loved about him was on his tail; he had 16 golden feathers. As he was flying one of his golden feathers fell of his tail! Could it be? NO!?! It was the KING`S golden feather!!!! Should I pick it up? Or should I not? What could I ever do with it? I decided to take the feather to the National History of bird’s museum. When I finally got there the professor asked me some questions. As I was answering, the professor started to look at me suspiciously. He studded at the feather for a wile. Then he broke the silence and said, ”Are you sure you didn't paint it gold? “Yes I'm sure!” I said confidently. Do you want to put it in a bucket of water to see if I'm right? He took a pail of water and put the feather inside. Then he took the feather out. The feather was still gold! “I don't believe it!” said the professor. He was so surprised that he showed it to the manager of the bird feather exhibits. The manager immediately ordered a glassware box for the exhibit. He interviewed me and offered me the job! The first thing I did at my job was that I took the Golden feather and dumped water on it so people would believe us. I was so glad that there was a new species on this planet.

They had many different fairy daughters. The fairy king and queen were named king Oberon and Queen Titania. Queen Titania had a human friend. His was name Joe. Joe and Queen Titania loved to write letters to each other. Queen Titania thought that Joe was nice, kind and helpful. But he was not. He was mean. Queen Titania really wanted to see what Joe looked like, and in the next letter she wrote: “Dear Joe, I really want to meet you. Maybe we can get together early in the morning at sunrise by the fountain of wishing luck. Love, Queen Titania” When Joe got the letter he immediately wrote back. He wrote: “Dear queen Titania, yes!!! I will meet you there! Love, Joe.” When Queen Titania got Joe’s letter she was so excited that she did a cartwheel in the air. The fairy King and all the fairies did not know about Joe at all. When the fairy Queen remembered that the fairy King and the fairies did not know about Joe she went to tell them right away. The King and the fairies were happy for the fairy Queen, but they were not sure if Joe was nice, kind and helpful. The next morning Queen Titania woke up before sunrise. She flew to the human world and sat on the golden rock near the fountain. When Joe came outside he was holding a box, and he said to Queen Titania: “This box has something special for you inside.” When Queen Titania opened the box she saw there was actually nothing in it, but before she could say anything Joe put the box over her head and she was trapped inside. Joe grabbed the box and went straight to the science lab, where he wanted to learn more about fairies. Three hours went by since Queen Titania disappeared and the fairies in the fairyland and the King started to worry. The King gathered some of the very special fairies and their Godmother and went to the Human world to look for Queen Titania. They finally found her in the science lab when Joe was getting ready to put some Gelato ice-‐cream on top of her wings so they can get heavy and frozen and she could not be able to escape. They hid behind a desk that belonged to two second grade girls who were helping at the lab and did not know that Joe is so mean. Their names were Kirsty and Rachel. Few minutes later the girls walked into the lab, but did not see the fairies at first, and when they got closer to their desk they were very excited to see real fairies hiding behind their desk. The fairies explained to the two girls they were trying to rescue the Queen fairy Titania who was captured in the box by Joe. The girls immediately agreed to help the fairies and they became good friends. They decided to make a little statue that looked exactly as the fairy Queen and left it in the box to trick Joe. After that they called the police and Joe was sent to jail. The fairies took Kirsty and Rachel to fairyland and had a huge party. Before it was time for the girls to go back to the Human world the fairies gave Kirsty and Rachel special necklaces filled with fairy dust for the girls to go visit fairyland any time they want.

It was a mouse! “Eww! Eww!”. I yelled and went to my garage with an annoyed face. I went as fast as I could. There I took a rest. “What happened?” my friend asked. “I saw a mouse”. I told him. I covered him with grass and my friend poked him with the stick and even more blood came out of him. When I looked at my shoe, there was blood on it. I was so disgusted, I stomped on the ground. After a few minutes, the trash truck came by and the trash guy came out. We told him to watch out for the mouse. Now he was ready to set off to have his own life just like Mother Mouse and Father Mouse had said. Now he was walking towards the mountain and when the mouse past the farm, the cat saw the mouse and watched him. When the mouse arrived at the mountain, he dug a hole and went inside. The cat crept up on the mouse and said “I’ll dig and dig and I’ll make your hole bigger and eat you up.” At that very moment the mouse got away really quickly before the cat could eat him. The second mouse saw an even closer place to live from the hole. He wasn’t thinking about the cat like his brother. So he set off to the tree with a ladder to help him climb the tree. He was thinking about a way to get out of the hole now. He found a long stick and made a slide to get out of his new home and went inside when he was done. The cat saw the mouse climbing the ladder, so the cat leaped out the window and said, “I’ll scratch and scratch and I’ll make your hole bigger.” The cat did what he said. When the cat finished making the hole bigger, he leaped inside. But luckily mouse got away at that very moment on his slide really quickly.

The Three Little Fish Author: Eashaan S. Once upon a time, there lived a Mama fish with her three little fish. Her kids became old enough to live on their own, explore the world and to build their own houses. She was sad as her children left her house and she wished them good luck. She warned them about the big bad shark that loved to eat little fish. The first little fish wandered around looking for some material to build the house. He found some seaweeds floating near the shore. The first little pig made his house out of seaweeds. ”This is going to make a perfect house”, He thought. As he settled down, the evil shark had already arrived. ”I am going to trick him” the shark thought. The shark talked mimicking the little fish’s mom. “Little fish, little fish, I am mama fish and I’m here to meet you. “Come right in” replies the little fish. But as soon as shark came in, he gobbled up the little fish. Then he tore apart the the house and grinned wickedly. The second litte fish made his house out of shells. “This will make a fine and steady house”, he thought. Right, when he settled down, the same shark came by. “Little fish, little fish, let me come in, I am mama fish” said shark repeating the same trick. “You can come right in”, said the little pig happily. As soon as the shark entered in, he gobbled up the little pig. Then he destroyed the house and laughed cunningly. The third little pig was more foresighted, he made his house out of rocks.” This will make a great and strong house”, he thought. He took his time because he remembered about that evil shark. When he settled down, the shark knocked on the door and said, “little fish, little fish, let me come in, I am mama fish”. “You don’t sound like my mom, you’re the shark” responded the little fish. The shark got furious and tried to break the house and get in to kill to the fish. But all his efforts were waste, as the house was too strong. The fish thought of an idea to kill the big bad shark. He called his electrifying eel friends over; he told them that the big bad shark was out side his house. They had a long conversation about the plan, and they finally got it! “I am sorry, I should let you in, you have been very polite to me and I think that not letting you in the house was very rude. Would you like to come inside?” The third fish asked. “Of course, thank you so much.” The big bad shark said smirking. He swam inside the fish’s house, but when he stepped in he felt a tingle on his back, those tingles started to get stronger, there were eels attacking him and then the shark got electrocuted. He fell to the floor unconscious, and the fishes carried him out. They all jumped on his stomach like a trampoline until the other two fishes popped out. That day on the shark was never seen again, and the fishes and the rest of the sea world lived happily ever after.

The True Western Story of Cinderella Author: Eliana H. Once upon a time in a faraway kingdom…. ”Wait, this is my story here, O.K.? Yea and I mean it’s only the 1950’s not that long ago!” “Oh, hey there! So are you interested in our story? The true story of Cinderella? Well, here’s how it starts…” It all started in Possum Kingdom, Texas. Cinderella (my cray, cray step-‐sister) was always bragging about herself because she knows I know she is better at riding bulls than me. So my Mom decided to put her to work for a week. As you noticed, she exaggerated a-‐l-‐o-‐t! Now, it’s a week before the rodeo and she’s really excited. Then, for no reason what so ever, she starts hitting and kicking me. H-‐A-‐R-‐D! My Mom, seeing me hurt made her furious so she said, “Cinderella, you are not going to the rodeo!” She completely lost it! Then, right before I left, I saw Cinderella with that nasty ghost from ghost town. The ghost said, “I’ll get you in!” With a smirk on her face, then, Cinderella said, “Great $20 bucks?” The ghost spoke cleverly, “No, $50”. “Ok, fine.” said Cinderella. At that moment the most beautiful girl entered the rodeo. She had gold earrings, black boots, and a beautiful silver dress. Since she was smart and beautiful, the Prince asked “Want to square dance?” And, of course, she said yes…and they both danced the night away. But, when it struck twelve, she ran away. The next day, I saw the Prince in a fancy new wagon. That’s when I noticed the girl at the rodeo was Cinderella. When he got to our house, he saw Cinderella. She tried on the boot. It fit! I can’t believe the Prince chose the wrong girl! I hope they live unhappily ever after!

The three sons were shocked but they agreed. The first turtle went about looking for something to build his house out of. Soon he found some driftwood. He took it and said, “My, my, I have found a wonderful material to build my house out of.” So, he set to work and any time he needed more he swam over to the big pile. Mean while the second turtle went to build his house out of mud and lily pads. He finished his house fast and sat down with a cup of tea, not scared about a thing. He did not know what would happen next. The third little turtle made his house out of stones. He took a twig from the bottom of the pond, dipped in mud and wrote “TURTLE’S CAVE” and placed in on top of his stone and mud cave. “Home sweet home,” he thought. Soon a very large greedy shark came upon the first turtle’s house. The shark said “Little turtle, little turtle let me come in.” The turtle said “not by the pattern on my shelly shell shell.” The shark used its’ tail to hit the house and the turtle swam to his brother’s house. The same thing happened to the second turtle’s house. Soon the two brothers got safely into Turtle’s Cave. The third little turtle asked the shark “Why are you chasing my bothers?” The shark said “because when we went to school together they were always teasing me because I got scared a lot and don’t chase fish.” The turtle glared at his brothers and said “We’ll let you stay with us if you promise not to hurt us.” “Sure,” said the shark , and they all lived happily ever after.

The True Story about Me…the Witch Author: Sheila K. Long, LONG ago when I was a young grown-‐up witch I had a story in my small leaf house in a small town on a lily pad, my hometown. You know the witch in Rapunzel is mean, well…I’m that witch, but don’t be scared. I am really nice. I wanted a child more than anything in the world. So I tried to make trades, but it never worked because, I’m a witch. Soon there was a new baby. The parents couldn’t get her to school so they pleaded, “Please, Miss Witch will you teach our daughter?” Of course I said yes, I knew it would be wonderful to teach the sweet child. So every day I took her – Rapunzel-‐ home to teach her. I have a list of what she wanted to learn: “The list: science, math, space, sorcery, reading, writing, homework.” I taught her everything. I would use my wand and make bell noises “Ring. Ring.” for the new class. Rapunzel would laugh. She loved it! I didn’t teach her on Saturday and Sunday so Rapunzel could spend time with her family. Soon people would see me out with Rapunzel and they realized I was not her real mom. They thought I stole her. They would scream for everyone to hear, “The witch stole the child!” They kept doing that till it was in the paper: “ Witch stole child!” on the front page. One day while we were out, the people were chasing us shouting “Let go of the child!” “Help,” whispered Rapunzel. “Chirp, Chirp Chestnut come help us in the Town Pool,” I sang in a whispering voice to my broom, Chestnut. Suddenly you could see a splash of gold, blue, and magenta sparkles as out flew an acorn patterned broom with gold handle bars and straps plus silver sparkles on the end of the tail bristles. “Chestnut has come,” I said with delight. When we met at that moment a gust of wind with no chill fetched us up in Chestnut’s stick and then strapped us on. Oh, I forgot, Rapunzel’s long and golden hair had swept out of reach. That was close, I thought. I told Chestnut to take Rapunzel home. “ See you tomorrow,” said Rapunzel sweetly. As soon as Rapunzel came in the next day there was a paper that said: “Wicked witch!” Yes, I was framed. After I was framed there was a new baby boy. When Rapunzel was 18 she told me she loved Ziggy Whitel (say it ,White-‐L). Ziggy said the same thing, at age 14, about Rapunzel. Soon enough they got married. Them and only them and their family knew I was nice. They knew the true story about me….the Witch.

She was 25 so she had a car. She already got a present for a baby sister and her dad, but she cannot find a present for her mom. But then an idea popped in to her head: Earrings! She looked up and down but she could not find the jewelry store anywhere. She went walking outside when she found a pair of earrings. There were two tags near it. When Foxsly saw the earrings, she thought there was something strange about these earrings. On one tag, it said, “Beware, Beware,” she read the tag. She was so frightened, but the earrings were so beautiful that she couldn’t just leave it there. So she looked at the other tag and it said the price was $3.00. Foxsly got three dollars out of her purse and put the three dollars on the floor where the earrings were. Then, she went home and wrapped the present. She put the present under the Christmas tree. “Mom will be so happy when she opens the present,” Foxsly thought to herself feeling relieved. The next day her mom took the present and opened it. “These are so beautiful,” she cried. Foxsly said, “Make a wish,” so she did. Suddenly she ran out the house with her winter coat and boots. When she came outside she flew! Foxsly was so surprised that her mom was actually flying and that the wish came true! Now, she really wanted to have those earrings!

Persuasive Review: Elephants Author: Eesha S. Do you like animals who are kind and peaceful? Then, you will like Elephants! One reason you should like elephants is because they are really intelligent. They have a really good memory and can remember their path of travel very well. Did you know that baby elephants can hear their mother's vibration from the ground. Isn't that cool? Another reason that you should like elephants is that they are really friendly. Once when I was in India, I saw an elephant and I got a chance to touch her trunk. I was a little scared, but the elephant was very friendly. Did you know that baby elephants sleep for 4 hours? But not 4 hours in a row! Another cool thing about elephants is that when they walk you cannot hear any sound. Isn't that amazing? My final reason that you should like elephants is that the moms are really protective of their babies and they really care for each other. I hope I have persuaded you to like and enjoy elephants!

Book Review: Cold as Ice is HOT! Author: Ruth K. I think readers of all ages would enjoy the book called “Whatever After * Cold as Ice” by Sarah Mlynowski. Here’s why…. This is an awesome book both boys and girls would like to read. Siblings might enjoy reading this book together because they can work together and help each other out with tricky words. The story includes magic, adventure, animals, friendship and so much more. This book is about a dog named Prince who jumps into a magic mirror. Soon he freezes! Will his owners escape from the robbers that just trapped them? Will they ever see their dog again or will the dog be frozen forever? Read this book and find out. I think all kids will enjoy this book. Even parents might like to read it to their kids (or to themselves).

Book Review: Call of the Wild Author: Akshath S. “The Call of the Wild” by Jack London is a book about a mixed breed; huge dog named Buck (protagonist) and the terrible journeys he faces when he gets taken away and sold to be sled dog. Buck is forced to learn “The Law of Club and Fang” that the man or the beast that is stronger gets his will. Buck has to test his strength by battling another dog, Spitz, who is his rival and arch enemy. Buck has to survive unbelievable obstacles, but he starts to learn his true nature. The book was great and also kind of sad because it showed what it means to be treated kindly and horribly. It also showed the power of love. I would recommend this book to any of the third grader and up for a great second grade read aloud.

Persuasive Review: Bollywood Dance Author: Saahiti G. Do you know the best Sport and Martial Arts? It’s…BOLLYWOOD DANCE! Some of the reasons why it's the best are because of the friendly teachers, the great feelings you get while you are there, and the awesome new friends you'll meet there! When you enroll the teachers greet you with a smile. When you start dancing it feels very graceful. The teachers give you beautiful ribbons and props to use during the dance for example: Once, I won a dance competition because of our props. We used rainbow colored gymnastic ribbons. When you start dance you will make a lot of new friends. When I first started I only knew 6 friends their names are: Arnav Talupur, Romeela Anand, Kavya Kapoor, Priti Kote, Shreya Mogulothu, and Ayan Patel. After I began my lessons, I now have 8 friends. I really enjoy spending time with them while dancing. If you are a girl you will get a lot of makeup. If you are a boy you get a mowhak with hair dye, and gel in it. So what are you waiting for? Get ready to be on stage!

Restaurant Review: Asian Bistro Author: Kiran M. This review is about a restaurant that I really like which is called ASIAN BISTRO. It is a unique location, right near the train tracks which lead to the Princeton Junction train station. It is not very big , but it is very clean. There is seating when you come in, and downstairs and outside. They serve asian food there, like Korean, Thai, Japanese, and Chinese. One of the things I like to order is called “Two-‐Halves”. “Two-‐Halves” is where you pick two things such as fried rice or General Tso’s chicken and it will come with a spring roll or a dumpling and salad. I like that it comes in a large black tray! I think the prices are not too expensive but reasonable. The Two-‐Halves I like to order costs $11.99. It is a lot of food that I always can’t finish, but I pack it up and take it home. Also, if you or your family have a monthly ticket, then you will get a 10% discount. It is also a family-‐friendly restaurant and I see a lot of families there.

Siberian Husky Author: Aditya D. Siberian Huskies are really strong dogs with a close resemblance to wolves. Siberian Husky means a puffed dog from Siberia. They are medium sized dogs that are friendly, loyal, mischievous and outgoing. They were recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1930. They have an active outlook and hence need regular exercise. Few Siberian huskies are known to have saved a lot of Alaskan people as they were used as sled dogs. Siberian huskies were specifically bred in order to help people to pull heavy loads long distances through difficult conditions. They are referred as working dogs. Few facts about Siberian huskies are that they can be bi-‐eyed which means each of their eyes can have different color such as blue and brown. Siberian huskies can live under extreme temperatures ranging from -‐58 degrees F to -‐76 degrees F. There is a bronze statue of a famous Siberian husky called Balto in Central Park New York City. Balto helped deliver a medicine being a sled dog for a 91 mile long distance which saved lives of hundreds of people in Nome. Siberian Huskies is not just a friendly pet but also a dog which has helped accomplish many difficult jobs in the coldest regions of the world. Siberian Husky is a dog with indomitable spirit.

Golden Retrievers Author: Kushagra S. Golden Retrievers are perfect pets. They are full of joy and loyalty. They are called Golden Retriever because of their golden fur and because they are really awesome at recovering stuff. The breed started in early nineteen hundreds in Scotland. They used to be hunting dogs at that time but later they moved to being circus dogs as well as favorite family pets. They are classified as large sized dogs that can be 20 to 24 inches tall and can weigh 60 to 75 pounds. Females are a bit smaller than males. Golden retrievers should exercise a lot so that they do not put on excess weight. Like all other dogs, Golden Retriever puppies should be trained so that they learn discipline and other family manners. They are very pleasant and smart dogs but tend to get naughty in presence of smaller children. They love food and playing around. Few fun facts about Golden retrievers are that they first appeared in England and were listed as flat golden coats, they are the first dogs to achieve American Kennel Club champion titles, they appeared in TV shows like ‘Air Bud ‘with the name ‘Buddy ‘and they are the most popular dogs in the United States of America. Golden Retrievers are the fourth smartest dog breeds in the world. They need regular checkups like all pets and can develop hip and joint related sicknesses. Some famous Golden Retrievers were Liberty, the presidential pet of President Gerald R. Ford and Victory, the presidential pet of Ronald Reagan. Golden Retrievers are great at all that they do. They are excellent at hunting, serving as guide dogs, search and rescue dogs and being very silly and playful. They say a Golden Retriever is a dog without an unkind bone in its body.

Let’s Save the Earth Author: Sheila K. Introduction This book is about pollution. A lot of different things cause pollution. We do it in our everyday life without even knowing we are polluting. Most of the time in our everyday lives we use electricity like lights, computer, TV, video games and many more. This can pollute many places on earth, which can change it and make earth unhealthy. But, how can we stop polluting earth and use the things we have to save earth? If you want to know more, save earth, its’ resources, and try to keep earth from pollution then read my book. Enjoy! What is pollution? Pollution is when people put bad things in the air, water and land. We use many things that pollute the earth like smoking cigars and cigarettes and using gasoline in cars, trucks, planes and trains. These all pollute the air. Oil spills can pollute the water and trash can pollute the land. Sometimes you add to pollution by using water when you don’t need it. This can be a problem because wasting water can mean that when oil spills happen they will pollute more water that we could have used for drinking or cooking. There are many types of pollution, so try to use things wisely to help save earth from pollution. Different types of pollution Pollution can be caused in many different ways. There is air pollution, where bad things are released into the air, like from our cars. Water pollution is when there are bad things like oil and trash in the water. Land pollution is when we put trash on the earth or dig up the ground to put trash in. If we are not good with limiting trash a lot of earth will have to be dug up.

Let’s Save the Earth (continued) How is pollution caused? Pollution is caused by using cigarettes, cigars and gasoline that make our air bad(air pollution). Another way we cause pollution is getting oil and trash into the water (water pollution). The last way is digging up the earth to put in trash and littering (land pollution). If we don’t try to keep these things from being caused earth will become unhealthy. How can we stop polluting earth as much? If we don’t stop polluting as much it will be harder for everyone and everything to live. Here are some ways we won’t pollute as much: 1. Turn off lights when we don’t need them. 2. Limit your TV, Video games, and computer time. Turn them off when not in use. 3. Don’t use much gasoline – walk or ride a bike when you can. 4. Don’t smoke. 5. Don’t litter or throw trash on the ground. 6. Try to plant trees. They will take in carbon dioxide (CO2) that is put into the air from gasoline which helps clean up the air. 7. Use solar panels. Keep earth clean!

All About Power Author: Suvas A. Muscle power is from our muscles, when we use them they work. Muscle power is good because it doesn’t pollute we can use it any time. The bad news is it can’t power up cars, houses, buses, or airplanes. Muscle power is used to help us run, walk, jog, and sprint. Fossil fuels come from decayed plants, and animals that get converted into coal, oil, and natural gas. Fossil fuels are used to power up vehicles, and heat up houses. The bad news is that it pollutes, and it will run out. Fossil fuels cause Global Warming. Global Warming is when we pollute the air, the greenhouse gas gets too thick and the sun comes in but it can’t come out, so the earth gets warmer. Solar power comes from the sun. Solar power can be used to power up homes with light and we use panels same with fields same with cars. Another type is glass tubes to heat up houses only. It’s used to heat, and light up homes and power up cars. The good news is that it’s clean and renewable it’s free almost everywhere on the earth. The bad news is it won’t work in nighttime and when it’s cloudy. Wind power is provided by windmills to help the earth be nice and cool from the sun. The good news is it is clean and renewable it’s free almost everywhere around the earth. The bad news is that when no wind is blowing, no wind power can be made. Water power comes from the ocean. It’s used to power stuff up, to make energy. The good news is it is clean and renewable 70% of earth is covered with water. The bad news is the dams can destroy the habitats and can be harmful to all sea creatures, and the less water the less power made. Geothermal power comes from earth’s heat, geo=earth thermal=heat. It is used to heat up houses and the lower you dig the warmer it gets. The good news is that it makes ton of heat. The bad news is that the ground where the soil grows we take that space so it is harmful to plants.
