Staff members honored for service to the Academy

A special reception was held Sunday, May 21, at 1 p.m. in Stribling Hall for eight Missouri Military Academy employees who were honored for service to the Academy. The reception also honored longtime MMA science teacher, Scoutmaster, swimming coach and former athletic director Lt. Col. Ron Rosendahl, who retired from the Academy at the end of the school year. Randal Jacobson, JROTC instructor; Ms. Melody K. Daly, cadet laundry manager; Lt. Col. James E. Medley, MMA High School commandant; Maj. Peggy L. Reynard, business instructor; and Ms. Lora L. Young, nurse. The staff members were recognized at the battalion review on Colonels Field.

MMA admissions staff traveling extensively

The Missouri Military Academy Admissions Department staff is traveling extensively this summer, visiting with prospective cadets for the 2006-07 school year, according to Maj. Dennis Diederich, director of admissions. “We hope to meet with as many prospective cadets and their parents as possible this summer,,” said Maj.

Diederich. “We have information and admissions packets available by mail and online.” Capt. Sam Blair, ‘94, director of international relations, traveled in Mexico, June 11-23. He will be in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan, July 10-13; and in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas, July 28-Aug. 5. Maj. Diederich and Capt. Michael

Shoemaker will host an open house in Northwest Arkansas on June 24. Maj. Diederich also traveled in Kansas, Colorado and Nebraska, June 15-20. Capt. Camps keep MMA campus bustling

Missouri Military Academy will host seven summer camps from June through August, according to Executive Officer Lt. Col. James E. Medley. The annual MMA Confidence Camp and Leadership Camp will be held July 9-15 and July 9-22, respectively, and will be directed by MMA Middle School Commandant Maj. Mark Vaughan. (See story on Page 1.) A Special Olympics camp will be on campus June 17-23, and Aquinas Academy will be having its academics camp at MMA, June 25-30.

There will be a taekwondo camp on campus July 28-30. MMA’s fall sports camps will bring cadets who intend to participate in football, soccer, swimming and cross country to the campus on Aug. 24, and a leadership camp will start Aug. 30 for cadet leaders in the 2006-07 school year. MMA has already hosted the Miss Missouri Pageant, June 3-11, and the Granby wrestling camp, June 11-15.

2006-07 commander positions announced

Battalion and company commanders for the 2006-07 school year at Missouri Military Academy were named in May by Lt. Col. James E. Medley, MMA High School commandant. Junior Sgt. Maj. Giuseppe Poletti of Vigevano, Italy, is the battalion commander designate. Company commander designations went to Master Sgt. Alex Cheng of Chicago, Ill., Echo

Company; Sgt. 1st Class Adrian Martinez of Ciudad Victoria, Mexico, Delta Company; and Sgt. 1st Class Israel Avelar of Mexico City, Mexico, Charlie Company. Cadet Sgt. 1st Class Nick Fajen of Lufkin, Texas, was named battalion adjutant. The remaining four staff positions will be announced at the beginning of the school year.

Miller earns Maroon Bar with eight stars On June 5, Missouri Military Academy High School Commandant Lt. Col. James E. Medley announced the final 2005-06 winners of the Maroon Bar for discipline. Sophomore Jake Miller earned the Maroon Bar and eight stars for having no demerits over a nine-month period. Sophomore Rene Zuazua earned the Maroon

Bar and four stars, and sophomore Alan Ortega earned the Maroon Bar and three stars. For having no demerits in May, Jonathan Avelar, Thomas Clubb, Jun Hyuck Choi, Giuseppe Poletti and Erich Sullivan earned the Maroon Bar. Winners having no demerits for two months were Giorgio Bonadiman and Young Hee Kim.
