De Simone Selected to All Military.com DOD Team By: Mike Gapasin Mira Mesa Marauder freshmen running back Joe De Simone was selected to the All Military.com DoD Team. In a ceremony at Mira Mesa High School on March 30, 2012, Military.com’s Director of Community and Government Outreach, Dr. Randy Plunkett, presented an All Military.com DoD Team jersey and certificate to De Simone on behalf of Military.com and All American Games. The program is designed to honor premier high school football players around the world who are dependents of personnel currently serving in the military. De Simone’s father is a Major in the Marine Corp currently stationed at MCAS Miramar. Military.com President and retired Rear Admiral McCreary said, “Military kids have the added burden of frequent moves and starting new schools every few years. To be able to excel in high school sports in spite of that speaks volumes about the character, integrity and talent of these athletes.” Only 24 high school players were selected from around the world. De Simone is only one of two freshmen that were selected. Players were selected by a committee last December. The selection committee consisted of former NFL players and coaches including Sam Wyche, Dave Diaz-Infante and former San Diego Chargers Wes Chandler. De Simone played on the freshmen football team where he was the Offensive MVP. He also played in some of the JV games and was later brought up on varsity for the playoffs. Varsity running backs coach Aurelio Morales said, “J.D. will help the program the next three years here. He has a great work ethic and is very disciplined.”
