YYPresident’s Letter Welcome Dear Moms and Moms-at-Heart, I can’t believe we are already celebrating spring, planting our veggie seeds, and well into our 2012 election year. Here in Colorado our caucuses are over and we are heading to the state conventions. I was very pleased to see more women participating in these events. At my last caucus I was the only woman attending our precinct meeting. This year half of the eight attendees were female. There were also more women in my district meeting and running for delegate positions. I am encouraged by this increased participation of conservative women. With this increased political participation on our part comes targeted propaganda messages on the part of the candidates and their parties. Assumptions have been made about our concerns and what we want from our representatives. I have found some of these assumptions to be far off the mark, but unless I speak up how will they know they are misinformed. We all need to speak up and let the candidates, the media, and our neighbors know where we stand. I believe as we begin to speak up many other women will hear our combined voice; and it will ring true with them, and they will come join us, like-minded people seeking to make our desires heard. This month’s magazine joins Sharon Slater as she observes and reports on proceedings at the UN. Her unique experience brings us greater knowledge and perspective. We also have more about the history and development of the American educational system with the continuation of our AAM University feature. And we round out this month’s edition with articles on knowledge and prepping. Join us for a minute mob of kindness on April 26th and make plans to attend our AAM ice cream social held in conjunction with Glenn Beck’s Restoring Love event in July. Have a great month and if you are a delegate and heading to the Colorado state conventions on April 13th and 14th – I’ll see you there. Enjoy-

Pro-family Victory at UN Obama’s Radical Sexual Agenda Ruins UN Negotiations!

“Quick!” said a UN delegate, grabbing my arm, “The U.S. delegation is in the hallway trying to convince a group of delegates from developing countries that they should accept “comprehensive sexuality education” without recognizing the “right of parents!” He immediately had my attention. I was at the UN Commission on Status of Women (CSW) in New York with the Family Watch International [FWI] team trying to protect the family and family values during this critical meeting. Family Watch Launches Petition/Campaign to Stop the Sexualization of Children At CSW our team, with support of youth from all around the world, had just launched our petition campaign calling on the UN and governments to stop the sexualization of children through dangerous “comprehensive sexuality education” programs.

We had been aggressively lobbying delegates all week asking nations not to accept provisions calling for “sexuality” education. We urged them to demand that the rights of parents to guide the sex education for their children be recognized in the three main documents under negotiation, one on combatting HIV/AIDs, one on preventing maternal mortality and the main document negotiated at CSW every year called “Agreed Conclusions.” The schedule had been grueling, especially for developing nations that only had one delegate to cover the negotiations on each of the three documents. It was literally impossible for such countries to keep up. We know because we stayed up many of those nights analyzing the latest drafts, which were complicated and deceptive in the ways they tried to promote an anti-family agenda.

Obama Administration Blocks Provisions Recognizing Parental Rights, Religious and Cultural Values Negotiations on the maternal mortality resolution were being completely controlled by the U.S, since it was their original resolution to begin with. But to everyone’s surprise, the U.S. unilaterally stopped the negotiations. They then produced a new text which was supposed to be a compromise text. While the text still contained most of the controversial anti-family elements like paragraphs calling for “sexuality education” for children and “reproductive rights” for both women and girls, they had removed the key provisions calling for recognition of parental rights and respect for national sovereignty and religious and cultural values. The U.S. arrogantly refused to put these provisions back in, clearly showing the Obama administration’s contempt for parental rights, religious and cultural values, and displaying great disrespect for the positions and views of many other member countries. Fortunately for me, due to lack of space, the UN had kicked the delegates out of the room where nations had been engaged in intense closed negotiations on this U.S.-led resolution, ostensibly aimed at preventing maternal mortality. The reality was that the resolution appeared to be just an excuse to promote the radical feminist agenda internationally to appease Obama’s supporters. Laurie Phipps was the lead negotiator for the U.S. delegation, and as I came upon her in the hallway she was explaining in a very patronizing way to delegates from developing countries why the “right” of parents did not need to be mentioned in the paragraphs regarding sexuality education and a “right” to sex education. I was fuming. I pushed my way through the delegates and challenged her exclaiming that the majority of Americans firmly believe that parents have the “right” to guide the education of their children and that she was abusing her mandate to represent the American people. I exclaimed that the Universal Declaration on Human Rights also recognizes this “right” of parents and that what she was doing was wrong and she was not representing the views of the American people. She was taken aback and finally asked me what delegation I was with. I told her I was an American citizen and that Americans would be ashamed of As a Mom... A Sisterhood of Mommy Patriots®

what she was doing. She demanded that I leave telling me that I was interrupting “intergovernmental” negotiations. While I backed off, I continued listening from a distance.

Commission on Status of Women Opens 56th Session A wide view of the General Assembly Hall at the opening of the fifty-sixth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). On screen is Marjon V. Kamara, Permanent Representative of Liberia to the UN and Chair of the fifty-sixth session.

U.S. Promotes Abortion Under the Guise of Reproductive Rights Ms. Phipps then began to tell the delegates in her patronizing voice, as if she were speaking to school children, that she had no idea why people were saying that “reproductive rights” included abortion because clearly they did not and that it was very important to have such a reference in the document. It was all I could do to restrain myself from challenging her again. Instead, I waited until she was done and as the delegates walked away I informed them that Ms. Phipps was intentionally misrepresenting the facts because she knew full well that her boss, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in a Congressional hearing admitted that the Obama administration considers even the weaker term, “reproductive health,” to include abortion, let alone “reproductive rights.” April 2012

“A number of delegations were extremely upset by the U.S. manipulation and strong-arm tactics.” In reality there was no consensus on the radical provisions in the document, and a number of African countries subsequently withdrew their co-sponsorship from it. One African delegate was so angry he said he was going to go back to his country and write articles and do press conferences to let his people know that what is coming out of the UN is not consensus but rather policy made by manipulation, blackmail, coercion and deception. He reported having been shoved out of the way by a U.S. delegate as he was trying to explain to a fellow African delegate how harmful comprehensive sexuality education is and why it needed to be opposed. 8

MinuteMom Magazine

Holy See Delegate Calls the U.S. to Account for Promoting Controversial Agendas that Hurt Women and Children These excerpts from the official statement of the delegate from the Holy See upon the adoption of the U.S. resolution on maternal mortality seem to eloquently capture the feelings of many delegations: “My delegation notes with grave concern various agendas which were being advanced during the negotiations regarding so-called “reproductive rights . . . ,” “Language contained with the ICPD Programme of Action affirms respect for religious and ethical values. Regrettably, the main sponsor failed to allow a paragraph to affirm these principles which respect conscience and the freedom of religion . . . ” “It is the sacred and solemn responsibility of parents to care for their children and no one— including the state—has a right to advance an agenda which does not respect the natural moral law. The attempt on the part of the main sponsor [the U.S.] of the text to not recognize the prior and primary responsibilities, rights, and duties of parents regarding their children, is disrespectful of the nature of marriage and the family and undermines international law. . .” “The advancement of an agenda which promotes “sex education” and artificial contraception to children, and completely disregards their parents’ involvement, is antithetical to the role of the state which has the responsibility to promote the common good of the family and society. . . ” “It is tragic that the present resolution is clouded by various attempts to advance the aforementioned agendas which are contrary to respect for human life.” U.S. and EU Exploit AIDS Pandemic to Promote Controversial Sexual Rights. Fortunately for those of us who want to protect the family and family values the U.S. shenanigans and manipulations on the maternal mortality document began to backfire. The developing countries had had quite enough of the U.S. bullying and refused to accept controversial antifamily provisions in the HIV/AIDS resolution, especially after it became quite clear that the U.S. and the European countries were bent on using the HIV resolution to promote sexual rights and especially the LGBT agenda. www.AsAMom.org

U.S. Through Coercion and Manipulation Achieves “Consensus” on Their Resolution I had also overheard Ms. Phipps firmly say there was no chance for any further changes to the maternal mortality resolution despite the fact that numerous controversial provisions remained. It was clear that the U.S. was going to coerce the developing countries (and it is now common to blackmail them with the threat of withdrawal of aid money), to get “consensus” on their highly controversial resolution. A number of delegations were extremely upset by the U.S. manipulation and strong-arm tactics. Caught off guard by the U.S. actions, African nations whose lone delegates were overwhelmed with the other negotiations going on, especially their own resolution under negotiation to combat HIV/AIDS, were unable to stop the U.S. from declaring consensus on the maternal mortality document. My guess is many counties did not even have a chance to read the document before it was adopted. This certainly did not improve the way that much of the world views the U.S.

In fact, I think it was the last straw when the EU proposed a provision promoting the controversial International Guidelines on HIV/AIDS and Human Rights. This awful document says that to combat AIDS, nations must legalize same-sex marriage, abortion, prostitution and comprehensive sexuality education for children. Please note that the U.S. delegation also announced in their briefing that they were supporting the reference to these controversial guidelines yet again. African Countries Stand Up to the U.S. and Refuse to Back Down The resolution to combat HIV/AIDS became stacked with controversial U.S. and EU proposals that actually promote the destigmitization of the highest risk behaviors for spreading AIDS. The African and Islamic delegates were so upset with the way the U.S. handled the maternal mortality resolution that thankfully, they did the almost unthinkable—they stood up to the U.S. and the EU. They refused to accept the provisions promoting sexual rights which included comprehensive sexuality education for children. They refused to come to consensus even though it meant that their own resolution was thrown out. I think everyone was in shock. U.S. Obsessive Focus on Sexual Rights Ruins Negotiations Causing Main Document to be Thrown Out By that time, delegations had to focus on the main document “Agreed Conclusions.” The African voting bloc, feeling the power they had to refuse the demands of the developed countries, continued to strongly refuse to accept the unacceptable. They determined again that no document was better than a bad document and made it clear that they would no longer be bullied by the Western countries and especially by the U.S. In the end it was the U.S. that ruined the main CSW document, which was supposed to have the objective of helping rural women overcome poverty. The U.S. had again tried to turn that document into a radical feminist document and were refusing to recognize the “right” of parents, demanding sexuality education and also demanding language promoting “modern contraceptive methods” and multiple references calling for “access” to contraceptives. The U.S. delegates also refused to allow the reference to “reproductive rights” to be placed in a As a Mom... A Sisterhood of Mommy Patriots®

context that would limit its meaning to make it hard for it to be used to promote abortion. They said they had “instructions” not to come to consensus unless all of their demands were met. So in the end the main document had to be thrown out too, all because of the U.S. obsessive focus on sexual rights.

A mother and her children smile and make funny faces for the camera inside their home in the small town of Clay Ashland, Liberia.

CSW 2012: A True Victory for the Family All in all CSW was a great pro-family victory because the developing countries, especially the African Group, stood up to the U.S. and the EU when it really counted, not just in a statement but in action—refusing to accept the unacceptable. This will put them in a position of strength in the future as everyone will now know they mean business when they say they can’t accept something. Some people wonder why the U.S. is losing popularity worldwide. Could it possibly be because internationally, the Obama Administration is pushing initiatives to advance a radical sexual rights agenda that they would never dare push in the U.S.? Remember, President Obama recently issued a directive to U.S. embassies and agencies saying that the U.S priority is to promote LGBT rights even in countries like Pakistan, and in African countries with the highest HIV rates. At CSW we saw firsthand how the Obama Administration is clearly making enemies right and left by trying to force a radical sexual rights agenda on the developing world.

Knowledge

The George Washington Challenge

Benjamin Franklin said, “God grant that not only the love of liberty but a thorough knowledge of the rights of man may pervade all the nations of the earth, so that a philosopher may set his foot anywhere on its surface and say: This is my country!” There has been no greater need for knowledge than now. There has been no greater effort to manipulate the information than now. There is indeed an assault on the minds of Americans. This assault is meant to confuse, molest, & trivialize the real information…the truth! As we get closer to the truth of the information, we are bombarded with an onslaught of fallacious material in both written and spoken language. This information is coming from supposed trustworthy sources, and yet, there is deception. I’m reminded of Plato’s allegory, “The Cave.” In this story, the chained prisoners could only look one direction onto a wall that produced distorted images of reality. Behind the prisoners was a flaming fire. An object was placed in front of the fire to cast a shadow on the wall the prisoner’s perceived in front of them. The prisoner’s perceived the shadowy images as reality. If a book was being used to cast a shadow on the wall, they perceived the shadow of the book, as the real object. When released from this prison they could see the real object for what it was, because their perception had changed. But, even then, it was only an object, and was not reality to them. 10 MinuteMom Magazine

They had been conditioned to accept the distorted image as reality. How does that compare with life today? I venture to think what would have happened if they had opened the book and read it? Their perception would have changed into knowing the value of the book, and then what? But, value is learned through experience. And like those prisoners in this allegory, people of today are looking only one direction, to that of entitlements

are prisoners and only take things at face value, accepting what is laid before them. Yet, others investigate further. They weigh the information they receive with their own research and wisdom. Knowledge opens doors that otherwise would remain closed. But, we must see knowledge as only part of a two-part key, discernment being the other part. Knowledge gives us power…to do! Discernment gives us the power to do…right!

God grant that not only the love of liberty but a thorough knowledge of the rights of man may pervade all the nations of the earth, so that a philosopher may set his foot anywhere on its surface and say: This is my country! and handouts, inhibiting growth and knowledge. This requires no effort on the part of the individual, thus depleting the value of their most basic rights and privileges of, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Isn’t it amazing that simply allowing or accepting things at face value, can distort the image of reality. How often does that happen in politics, in our government or with dishonorable individuals that lead us to believe one thing or another? You see, we can liken the allegory of, “The Cave,” to ourselves. There are many of us that fall into differing categories pertaining to knowledge. Some

What good is information, unless you use it and use it wisely? Until the knowledge we receive is taken to task and used with discernment to gain some experience, it is good for nothing. It is only through experience that we gain wisdom in anything. According to John Locke, “No man’s knowledge can go beyond his experience.” And so it is, that unless we gain knowledge and put it into practice, all the information we receive will leave us stagnant with intellectual rot. Knowledge gives us the power to wield our freedoms. Discernment gives us the power to wield our freedoms as God intended. And unless we understand and know www.AsAMom.org

Host your own: what those freedoms are, how will we know when they are taken away? In speaking of knowledge in Proverbs we read, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction” (1:7). God tells us that wisdom, instruction and the ability to “perceive the words of understanding” (1:2), and “to receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity,” (1:3) this is knowledge. Discernment is the ability to identify- through the Holy Spirit- light and truth, from lies and darkness… to be enlightened! Light cleaves to light and our ability to identify and qualify the truth of things is made easier as we live a life of integrity. If you live a life contrary to truth, how often do you think you will recognize truth when you see it or hear it, or falsity for what it is? Ask yourself, “What do I know? What am I willing to find out? And what am I willing to do with that information?” Have you read the Constitution, The Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence? Each of these documents contains life saving truths. And to understand what rights you have, you must educate yourself to know what they are. Do you know? The poignant command by Glenn Beck to question with boldness, is not a request to question in terms of uncertainty- it is a firm, resolute request -to question in terms of validity and truth. I don’t need to question that God exists, because I see evidences of Him every day. I do need to question the motives of a government, whose actions are contrary to Constitutional freedoms and liberties. One supports truth and is the author of it, the other’s actions often plagiarize truth and contradict it. Today is a pivotal moment in our generation. Many are blinded by societal precepts. Many are confused as to what truth is and where to find honest information. Still, more are lured away by that which appears to be good, but is evil. “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter,” (Isaiah 5:20). In many ways, truth is unrecognizable to them because they have lived so long accepting deceptive practices. These practices have restricted our freedoms and have removed our basic Constitutional rights. This is the moment where we prove to have a, ‘thorough knowledge of the rights of man,’ because our freedoms and the liberties of our countrymen depend upon it. We need not chain ourselves to the wall, accepting what is displayed before us. We can break free and use the keys of knowledge and discernment to open the door to all truth, and welcome freedom. —Kami Watkins * -George Washington Challenge http://www.beinggeorgewashington.com © 2012, Mercury Ink.

OUTDOOR GOURMET Last summer we had a huge wind storm and my electricity was out for a few days. No cable TV, no internet, no computer – even my cordless phone didn’t work. I was lost. I read for awhile but was restless and looking for something else to do, so I went to the closet, drug out the vacuum cleaner, plugged it in and flipped the switch. Duh…..Oops. Our technologies are so much a part of us that I’m sure most of us take them for granted and we go through life operating on some sort of ‘auto pilot.’ Take away those technologies and we sometimes flail around a bit before being able to function again. After the vacuum cleaner incident, it occurred to me that the microwave was also not going to work – it was pushing 100° F outside with no air conditioning inside – and heating up the house with my gas stove or oven was not something I was looking forward to. I remember thinking how nice it would be to have one of those popular outdoor kitchens like I’d seen on HGTV so many times. But, alas, such an extravagance is not even a blip on my radar – no extra cash, no outside kitchen. But I do have a plain, old-fashioned charcoal grill. I used to have a gas grill, but I ran out of gas one too many times while cooking on it and decided it wasn’t worth lugging those tanks around. My brother tried to talk me into buying an electric grill; and, I did consider it, but I felt that having too much technology would be 12 MinuteMom Magazine

cheating somehow….. you know? Backyard barbecuing should be more – well – rustic and basic – or something. Nope – I settled on a plain old charcoal grill. I didn’t realize it back then, but it turns out a charcoal grill is not a bad idea to have around in case of an emergency. Did you know that fifteen 20 lb bags of charcoal are enough to prepare one meal a day for a full year? The best time to buy charcoal is at the end of the season and you can often find broken bags that have been marked down which will save you money. Charcoal must be kept dry though, so if you don’t have a dry place to store it, think about transferring it into 5-gallon buckets with tight-fitting lids that you can stack in the garage or on a porch. Everyone has their own “tried and true” method of starting the coals – I use small “logs” of twisted newspaper that I’ve rolled tight – and an inexpensive charcoal chimney. I don’t use or store lighter fluid and I don’t buy charcoal that has additives to make it light or burn faster. I believe all you need is a little patience and the chimney will do all the work for you. Oh! And make sure you have plenty of matches stored in a waterproof container too. By the way, you can’t use a charcoal grill inside the house because the charcoal gives off too much carbon dioxide and uses too much oxygen – so please don’t try it – even in an emergency! Also, you should know that if you put your mind to it, do some research, practice and www.AsAMom.org

have a charcoal grill with a well-fitting lid, you can pretty much cook or bake anything you want in it – even bread or cake! If you’re interested, use your internet search engine and enter ‘bake bread on a charcoal grill.’ I guarantee you will get lots of information. You can count on about 40° of heat from each briquette and briquettes will usually give you 40 to 60 minutes of cooking time. Here’s another tip: If you have a cast iron Dutch oven you can start your coals in the grill pan, set the Dutch oven on top of the hot coals, use your barbecue tongs to put a few hot coals on the Dutch oven lid, and use the Dutch oven to cook stew or bake cornbread just like the pioneers used to do using wood coals. Again, check the internet for recipes and details, or see if your local library has books on Dutch oven cooking and cooking/baking on the grill. There’s more to a charcoal grill than steaks, hot dogs and hamburgers! I was about to set up my grill when I remembered I had never gotten a chance to try out the solar oven/cooker I put together over winter. If you aren’t familiar with solar cooking, you can’t fry or sauté foods, but you can cook or bake

anything you would in a conventional oven cookies, cakes, pies, bread, stew, roast chicken, vegetables, etc. Since it uses low temperatures, it’s great for cheese and egg dishes too; and – unlike a microwave oven – foods do actually brown. If you do an internet search on ‘buy solar oven’ you’ll find hundreds of entries for commercially manufactured units costing up to $300. But if you search on ‘homemade solar oven’ you’ll find a huge variety of plans and methods for building your own solar cooker and many will cost you only a few dollars. YY If you live anywhere between 60° N Longitude and 60° S Longitude of our planet – and have a few feet of space open to sun exposure for at least four hours – you can probably use a solar cooker. YY You can even use your solar cooker on a cloudy day – as long as there is at least 20 minutes of sunshine during each hour. YY The close you live to the equator, the more prime solar cooking days you will have. A prime day is one where the sun is 45 degrees or more above the horizon each day (your shadow is longer than you are tall). That is, if you live along the 40° N parallel (Northern California; Central Nevada; Northern Utah, Colorado, Kansas or Missouri; Central Illinois, Indiana, Ohio & Pennsylvania), you should have about 150 prime days per year. Whereas, if you live along or south of the 35° N parallel (Southern California; Arizona, New Mexico or Texas; Southern Oklahoma & Arkansas; Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina or Florida), you should be able to easily use your solar cooker for half the year or more. YY When building your solar cooker, do not use any materials that could give off toxic fumes when heated, such as duct tape or plain Styrofoam. YY Cold temperatures and high winds will lengthen needed cooking time. YY For best results use thin, dark-colored pots with lids. Enameled steel Spatterware is an excellent choice. Dark, non-stick coated bakeware also works well. You can even cook in a glass casserole dish if you paint the exterior of it black with tempera paint. But cast iron cookware is not a good choice because it takes too much energy to heat the heavy, thick iron mass. YY To facilitate cooking, pots should not be too large and should be short and wide rather than tall and narrow. YY Cooking time will be about twice that of a conventional oven. YY Preheating your solar oven will take about 30 minutes. YY You can put as many pots and pans in your cooker as you have room for, but the more you have in the oven, the further you are asking the heat to stretch – it will take longer. YY The sun is usually hottest between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm and your oven will be able to reach the highest temperatures during this time, so it is usually the best time to cook bread, pies or cakes. YY Remember to use potholders – the containers can get hot! 14 MinuteMom Magazine

used an old tire with a piece of glass on top. Another set of plans utilized a couple of car windshield reflectors to make a reflective cone – you set the pot in the center of the cone and allow the sun to do the rest. I liked the box cookers, but you might prefer one of the other styles. And don’t be put off by the recent obsession with all things solar seeming to fail – this is one ‘low tech’ solar project that actually works! I made my cooker out of cardboard boxes, a piece of foam insulation board, some metal flashing that I could cut with scissors, some aluminum foil tape, a large disposable foil cookie sheet, a 12” piece of hanger wire, a can of non-toxic black spray paint, white glue, an oven thermometer and one of those oven cooking bags like we use at Thanksgiving to bake the turkey in. I used a dark blue, Spatterware, covered casserole for the food. I rolled my empty charcoal kettle grill out into the front yard, took its lid off, sat the sun cooker on top of the grill ( so I wouldn’t have to bend over), aimed the reflector toward the sun and put my pot of food inside. Then I put a comfortable yard chair in the shade, turned on my little radio, laid my book on my lap, took a drink of my iced tea, leaned back and closed my eyes. About every hour or so I got up and shifted the entire contraption slightly so as to maximize the effect of the sun’s energy. It worked great and when it was done I had not only taken a little nap and read part of my book, I also had a great meal. And as a bonus, a couple of my neighbors stopped by to see what I was doing and I got an afternoon of great conversation! Now if I could only figure out how to make a solar powered vacuum cleaner… www.AsAMom.org

Instilling Homegrown values in our Children

I grew up in the Midwest in a middle class family with both parents and three siblings. I think I took for granted what family life is “supposed” to be. Every evening we ate dinner as a family, and every Sunday we went to Church. My parents sent us to Catholic school, where our teachers reinforced the values that we were taught at home: love for God, love for our country and respect for all. My sisters, my brother and I were raised to help out around the home, whether it was preparing dinner, cleaning up after or doing yard work. I wouldn’t say my parents were terribly strict, but if we broke the rules or were acting inappropriately, we were “corrected” and didn’t intentionally make the same mistake again. Lucky for me, I had my two older sisters to observe…I made a lot of mental notes as to which lines NOT to cross when I got older. My parents made it look easy: they raised four children, three of which are now raising their own families. We all are healthy, happy and 16 MinuteMom Magazine

“well adjusted.” We all get along, we’re all still very close and we all realize how fortunate we are to have had such a stable and loving family. Now that I have two sons of my own, I see that raising them to be good people really isn’t easy, but it is the most important thing I can do for them. Parents have always faced the challenge of competing with outside influences when it comes to instilling the proper values and morals into our children; friends, media and culture all play a very important, if not always ideal, role in influencing our children. However, this point in history seems to bring the most obstacles to raising strong, morally grounded people who can think for themselves: access to unlimited television channels 24-hours a day, the Internet, social media, liberal public schools, even our politicians are telling our children not to listen to their parents because we don’t understand today’s culture and the important issues society faces. a few years ago at an “inner city” school. I was excited for the challenge and looked forward to learning from my mentor; a teacher about which I had heard many positive comments. However, my excitement soon turned to frustration when I was faced with the teacher’s liberal and lax attitudes. Per her instruction, we were not to down grade the children for late work (“It’s a gradebook keeping nightmare!”). There were no consequences for bad behavior, poor grades or failure to turn in homework. Students were not required to do anything, not even bring a pencil or paper to class; a supply of both were readily accessible in the front of the room as the students came in each day. Little did I know that I practically had to hand deliver the pencil and paper to the students as well, since they did not put forth any effort into taking notes or picking up the free supplies as they walked into the room. On Mondays, the one morning a week that the school said the Pledge of Allegiance, I was constantly telling one young man to stand up and put his hand over his heart. He grudgingly put forth a half-hearted effort to stand, but continued to doodle on his desk throughout the pledge. When I sought her advice, her only comment was…”At least he’s standing…I wish we didn’t even have to say the thing.” During the lunch break, the teachers would gather in the room and have a team meeting. Looking for words of wisdom and encouragement, I more often heard comments about the disrespectful attitude of the students (“You get used to it”) and received constant reminders to join the Teachers Union. And while I always thought that teachers should keep their political opinions to themselves and teach objectively, this instructor made no effort to hide her contempt to President George W. Bush or for commentators from more conservative news sources. Though the experience was, overall, not a positive one, it did open my eyes to what the public education is, at least in some instances, cultivating: the poor work ethic, the low test scores, the liberal bias, and the overwhelming sense of entitlement we see in more and more people today. I share my story, not to condemn the public school system, but to let people who may not be aware, that as parents today, we are faced with protecting our children from influences that, traditionally, have not been negative. How can parents compete with all these outside forces and not As a Mom... A Sisterhood of Mommy Patriots®

get bogged down by the big picture? We first need to define what we want the foundation of our family to be. For my husband and me, our core values are our faith in God, love for family, our health, respect, and the importance of doing your best. Now, how do my husband I and instill these values in my seven and five year old boys who are more interested in bathroom humor than doing their homework and cleaning their rooms? The answer is “time”. Experts say that the time parents spend with their children in the most important factor in influencing who they will become and what they will value in life. Whether it’s time spent directly telling them what you think is important and why, or it’s simply helping them with homework, asking them about their day (and really listening to the answer) or playing catch in the back yard, it all adds up to quality time and showing your child that they matter to you. Unfortunately, for many families, quality time is at a minimum in today’s society. Often, both parents work and frequently have more than one job. It used to be that school was the one place parents did not need to worry about what their children were learning was in school. Reading, writing and arithmetic, even history were pretty straightforward subjects. My parents would have never thought about the need to read through our school textbooks for accuracy and bias. Today, especially in public schools, children are picking up much more than the three R’s. They are often learning about their country and the world around them through a skewed lens that leads to an agenda that is often different from, even contrary to, your own family’s values.

Creating a strong foundation is vital to creating a strong family. There was a time when parents didn’t discuss certain topics with their kids; whether they thought it was too advanced for the children or too uncomfortable for the parents. But we are no longer living in those times. We if are not talking to our children about these sensitive and important topics, you can be assured that someone else is and what they are telling them is not likely to be in line with your family’s values. Television is one of the biggest culprits of feeding the liberal message to our young people. Even if you think the shows your kids watch are geared towards children and innocent enough, it’s a good idea to sit down with them and watch some of their favorite shows. It’s not only a good time to cuddle with your kids, but a chance to see what kind of messages they are receiving. Then you can either talk to them about what you’ve seen that you do not agree with or choose not to allow them to watch that program any longer. Every topic, from politics, to social issues, to religion, to love, sex and relationships can all be discussed on some level with even the youngest

of children and in ways that are age appropriate. Communication is crucial and children need to feel that they can ask questions and talk about things they hear from their peers and even from teachers. Giving our children responsibilities around the house is another way to instill in them the value of hard work and accomplishment. Jobs such as keeping their rooms clean, caring for a pet or clearing the dinner table help to teach them how to be accountable and dependable. Don’t forget to include your kids in general house cleaning, yard work and special projects around the home. In a culture where children are given awards for participation, kindergarteners “graduate” to first grade and youth sports are now scoreless events in which competition is practically a four –letter word, our children have come to believe that no one loses…that we’re all winners. They are learning nothing about sportsmanship or how to be a good loser….or a good winner, for that matter. They need to know that it takes hard work and practice to do something well. And, yes, there are times that, even when we try our best, we still may not win the prize…and that’s OK. It’s not enough to discuss our beliefs with our children and to give them jobs around the house. We need to lead by example. How we live our lives re-enforces our values to our children. Do they witness our own reverence for God and our country? Are we grateful for what we have or are we always seeking more? Do we try our best at work? Are we good sports? Do we exercise

This month AAM is continuing with Part 2 of the Special Edition Education Reports – a survey course in the philosophic break down of our culture. If you missed last month’s edition, I highly recommend going to the archives and pulling it up. This section will build upon the ideas presented previously. The articles featured here will do much to bring out the hidden agenda of the school system. It has become increasingly obvious that the “war” we are fighting today is different than anything we have been faced with in the past. The battle is for the hearts and minds of Americans - starting with our own children. Our culture has been attacked on a philosophical level, and we are destroying ourselves because of a radical shift in worldview. This battle must be fought with knowledge, wisdom and words, both written and spoken, and to prepare, you must be armed with the truth.

how your life and your children have been affected by the methods and agendas that we are attempting to expose. In everything there is an undercurrent of manipulation and relativization aimed to create a sense of powerlessness tamed by license. As you read, remember, evil ALWAYS works under the cover of darkness, because it hates the light. The first step in overcoming the grip of the modern worldview is to understand it, Once you “get it,” you can EXPOSE it. Only the light of truth can, and will destroy the works of evil.

Many of the articles and ideas presented here are both “meaty” and lengthy, however I hope that you will find the information thought-provoking. Take the time to analyze

“The principle which we have used to explain the acquisition of a sight vocabulary is, of course, the one suggested by Pavlov’s wellknown experiments on the conditioned response. This is as it should be. The basic process involved in conditioning and in learning to read is the same.”

Dr. Charles W. Eliot, President of Harvard, in 1916 advocated reform that would hasten the shift from academics to vocational activities. He wrote: “The changes which out to be made immediately in the programmes of American secondary schools, in order to correct the glaring deficiencies of the present programmes, are chiefly: the introduction of more hand, ear and eye-work – such as drawing, carpentry, tuning, music, sewing and cooking.” (School & Society, 3/18/16)

That the ultimate goal of behaviorism is the control of human behavior was spelled out quite plainly by John B. Watson in his book, Behaviorism (p. 11): “The interest of the behaviorist is man’s doings is Prof. Walter R. Want to do something really important for America’s future?

Secular Salvation Why did these men believe in socialism? Because, as atheists, they were convinced that socialism offered the only salvation from evil. To them the causes of evil were societal: ignorance, poverty, and social injustice. As evolutionists they rejected such concepts as sin, innate depravity, or the fall of man. They thus attributed the causes of social injustice to capitalism, individualism and religion. By substituting socialism, collectivism and theism in their place, they had no doubt that heaven on earth was quite attainable. The Progressives knew that the new society they were trying to build required of them extraordinary efforts and devotion. Their vision included a globalist humanism, which was well expressed in a speech given in 1918 by Prof. Charles H. Judd, the Wundtian dean of the School of Education at the University of Chicago. Judd said: “I am arguing for a new kind of humanism… We must build in the future a social structure for which there is no pattern. The humanism of the future will be dependent, not on imitation, but on self-determination…. “I have been reading, as I am sure many of you have, the platform of the English labor party. Its program of social reform and of education for more intelligent citizenship makes a profound appeal to every lover of democracy. I believe the English labor party is right… “The social psychology of the future will recognize different mental patterns no less than does the psychology of today, but it will exhibit a new factor, namely, conscious devotion to social solidarity…. Perhaps the time will come when the psychological differences of nations will be assimilated into a larger pattern of intelligent appreciation of the solidarity of a rational humanity.” (School & Society, 9/10/18) As a Mom... The 1920’s and ‘30’s were devoted to a total transformation of the public school curriculum. Charles Judd told a meeting of the American Political Science Association in 1931 that the entire organized profession was now engaged in the process of promoting “a movement to bring to full realization the project of socializing the whole body of instructional material in schools and colleges.”

first thing Americans now cry for when something goes wrong is government regulation or control? Is it any wonder that the farmers of America have ceased to believe in the marketplace and look to the government for their sustenance? We have been so brainwashed to believe in paternal government that most Americans cannot even conceive of education without government ownership or control.

The work, in fact, was being done so vigorously that a reporter, attending the 1932 meeting of the NEA’s school superintendents department, held in washing, D.C. and attended by John Dewey, Charles Judd and other progressives, could write:

The Progressives did their job exceedingly well, and their disciples today, in the highest positions of power in the educational establishment, still press that globalist vision while centralizing all education under state monopoly control. Their political power is enormous, thanks to the NEA, which is convincing more and more legislators to pour more and more tax money down the educational rat-hole.

“Here, in the very citadel of capitalism… this group of outstanding spokesmen of American education talked a remarkably strong brand of socialism.” And you can be sure that if a superintendent wanted to advance his career he had to tow the socialist line. Some of these “outstanding spokesmen of American education” had toured Soviet Russia in 1928 and come back with glowing reports about the communist experiment.

Meanwhile, public education has become a moral and academic disaster. But Americans have grown to live with it. They know something is wrong, but they have no idea what to do about it. Fortunately, there are a growing number of parents who know what is going on and have removed their children from the government schools. This trend will continue to grow despite the determination of the “educators” to crush it.

Even the American Historical Association got into the act of preparing America for socialism. In 1934 its As we have shown, what we have today is the result of a very long process. Indeed, the process was Commission on the Social Studies reported: expected to be long, for as John Dewey wrote in 1898: “Change must come gradually. And so, the conflict between the educators demands of a collectivist social order without and the people will persist indefinitely. submerging the individual as a helpless victim of bureaucratic control.” And so the new purpose of the public education was to prepare America for socialism. Is it any wonder that so many of us emerged from public schools totally ignorant of the true nature of the free-enterprise system? Is it any wonder that the As a Mom... By Diana Learn When Hegel entered the debate arena, he postulated that the old “way of thinking” - building a value system around a set of unchanging truths - was simply not providing the answers that they were seeking. He went on to suggest a new methodology. Rather than searching for an antithesis relationship, Hegel proposed that a thesis be stated, an antithesis be identified, but rather than define the relationship on a linear cause and effect line, a third element should be introduced - a SYNTHESIS of the original points. And just like that, the idea of “compromise” or “consensus” had been introduced into everyday thinking. From its inception, the idea of the Hegelian Dialectic caught on like a brushfire.

Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel If there were ever an appropriate example to illustrate the old adage that “ideas have consequences,” the omnipresent influence of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel on the prevailing worldview is it.

What has been the result? Well – Hegel single handedly changed the epistemology (theory of what we know) and the methodology (the way we found out what we know) of thinking. Using his dialectic model, EVERYTHING is relativized and we are taught that truth does not exist on its own, but is found in a synthesis of ideas. The prevailing modern worldview is a direct result of the Hegelian thought process. Answers are found by synthesizing opposing ideas, resulting in something new EVERY TIME situations change. Truth therefore, is ever-changing. Everything is ever-changing. Values, morality and even our laws are in a constant state of flux. What’s more, each person “has their own truth” that they have “discovered” from whatever opposing ideas presented themselves over time. Is there any wonder why nothing makes sense?

Since the beginning of time philosophers have been looking for the answers to “the meaning of life.” The great philosophers engaged in logical debate and discussed theories of knowledge, life and morality. Up until the time of Hegel, these discussions centered around the Aristotelian model of antithesis – if something is true, then the opposite is untrue. This very basic tenet allows a This method of thinking and of pushing worldview to be built upon a series of truths that agenda is the cornerstone of Marxism. Look are solid and unchanging. for it. Julian Huxley, the head of UNESCO in 1947, wrote a book titled, “UNESCO: Its Purpose and Its Philosophy.” His book was a blueprint for a New World Order that called for a single ‘new’ spirituality — a mixture of Buddhist materialist-pantheism, Liberalized ‘pantheistic’ Christianity, Gnosticism, and other occult traditions — one language, and one way of thinking. He believed a global order could be brought about through the universal implementation of Hegel’s Dialectic process.

‘position’ v e r s u s ‘opposition’ or ‘thesis’ versus ‘antithesis,’ or ‘truth’ versus ‘falsehood.’ By the traditional rules of conduct, if thesis is correct then it follows logically that antithesis is incorrect. In America, emotional pain, intimidation, and fear are precipitated by way of vicious psychological bullying such as sadistic ridicule, character assassination, destructive criticism, labeling, and spreading lies. Until total control has been achieved, psycho politics will remain the preferred method. There are four key elements necessary for a successful ‘consensus process’ operation. They are: • Multicultural and/or diverse groups, for instance ‘gays,’ atheists, Wiccans, or Muslims, fueled by resentment and envy — necessary for causing social conflict. • A traditional social or cultural issue around which conflict can be created. For example, the Boy Scouts, Christmas, traditional marriage, and male-female sex norms are demonized as ‘unfair, exclusionary, insensitive, intolerant, racist, homophobic, and hurtful’ to diverse groups. • The dialoguing to consensus process. • The predetermined outcome. By Diana Learn Human beings are the only species of life that has been gifted with language. God created us in His image with an ability to communicate with Him and with each other. It is no wonder, then, that the forces of darkness set their sights on corrupting and/or limiting our ability to communicate ideas, truth and wisdom to each other and even more, to our children. The Marxist ideology that pervades so much of the public school systems today is attacking our language. If you have children in the government school system, it is very likely that they are spending nearly 1/3 of their life immersed in a system that is teaching a worldview that is in direct conflict with their home values. In so many of today’s schools language is taught as a “soft science” not as a rigorous core study. Proper spelling is not a focus. Grammar and vocabulary is of minor concern. Handwriting is rarely even addressed. The classic literature that was so rich in meaning and culture has been replaced with nihilistic and often poorly written contemporary “literature.” Students are not asked to study a work and look for the meaning that the author had, but to find their own meaning. All this is done in the context of a worldview in which truth does not exist on its own. Take a look at the chart on the following page for some prime examples of the perversion of our language. Words that we grew up with now have vastly different meanings and are taught within a whole new, collectivist context. The tactics used are meant to create a generation gap between parents and children. When we speak we are using the same words, but are speaking an entirely different language at times.... All by design.

NEWSPEAK - As the attacks on our First Amendment rights continue to roll in, George Orwell’s dystopian novel, 1984 seems to become more and more relevant. In this book Orwell saw language shrinking, as the ideas of free thought and rebellion were outlawed. The goal of the government controlled speech was to remove any vagueness, creativity or negative connotation from verbal communication. This meant nothing potentially offensive or critical could be said. By the utilizing prefixes or suffixes, one positive sounding word could cover any allowable dialog. For example, the negative word stupid becomes “unsmart.” Other words become both nouns and verbs. 30 MinuteMom Magazine

These include emotional shock and desensitization... isolation from sources of support [parents], stripping away defenses... and inducing acceptance of alternative values...”[1] Thomas Sowell, PhD. “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. This teenage movie -- set in a totalitarian world that supposedly replaced a broken America -- shows the grim struggle for survival in a world without God, hope or meaning. The only “higher power” is a heartless government that supplies its own choice of artificial thrills and trials. And the people suffer. The book behind the movie was published by the prominent Scholastic. It brought us the Harry Potter series and countless other books promoting witchcraft and the occult. sophisticated tele-screens across the country. The goal is to unify, pacify and intimidate the viewers into ceaseless loyalty and compliance. It reminds me of a statement in the book, Amusing Ourselves to Death, by Neil Postman who anticipated today’s rise of Marxist values. To illustrate mental manipulation, he compared two familiar books: Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World and George Orwell’s 1984: “Orwell feared we would become a captive culture. Huxley feared we would become a trivial culture, preoccupied with some equivalent of the feelies.... [In 1984] people are controlled by inflicting pain. In Brave New World, they are controlled by inflicting pleasure. In short, Orwell feared that what we hate will ruin us. Huxley feared that what we love will ruin us.”[9] Both have a point. Today, the cultural war against Christ and His Church is being waged on both fronts. The minds of most contemporary teens are bombarded with seductive images and suggestions that mock God’s values and scorn Christianity. “...the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light...” John 3:19

[She was a sweet, twelve-year-old girl before she was killed]... “Have they been programmed to hate our faces particularly because we have survived and they were so callously murdered?”[10] Perhaps the moviemakers chose to ignore any hint of rebirth or reincarnation. But the scene fits right into the mythical tales and occult phenomena of ages past. Remember, human history is full of cultural and spiritual cycles that show what happens when a civilization that has been blessed by God rejects Him and embraces other “gods” and deceptive snares. God’s Way to His Shelter The signs of change are all around us, and we already see some of the devastating consequences: broken families, immoral lifestyles, hopelessness, despair and suicides. Many seek temporary relief in the countless artificial fantasy worlds of digital entertainment. Many are addicted to sensual stimuli or trapped in the forces of darkness and find no way to escape! Their struggles serve as a wake-up call to many of us. How can we (parents and grandparents) guard and guide our children through the dangers ahead?

Patriot Political Preparedness

Our Republic is uttering its death rattle. There is danger everywhere. Who will prevent what will happen if Constitutionalism fails this November? Where is OUR George Washington, OUR Thomas Paine, OUR anybody? The answer is: there is nobody left but you. This year will make or break the Great American Experiment. Now is not the time to defer to others what must be done by each and every Patriot. Success follows from acceptance of individual responsibility, preparedness, and organization. Acceptance of Individual Responsibility One must first recognize that in this ideological battle there are two levels of action – institutional and individual. Institutional action refers to political parties, special interest clubs, authoritative organizations, media machines, and government itself. Media Matters, MoveOn.org, Girl Scouts of America, the Heritage Foundation, etc are some examples of institutions that either directly promote or are being used to promote ideas and attitudes that result in a desired voting behavior, societal change, and acceptance of 36 MinuteMom Magazine

various governmental actions. Individual action refers to the initiative of a single person or grassroots group to exert similar influences as the Institutions. Does the action of one person really matter? Yes. Simply put – people typically believe what they read, and they are willing to think about what is said by a confident person, even if they do not initially agree. This is your “individual responsibility”: find opportunities to clearly write well worded defenses of Liberty and condemnations of Communism and Sharia, and join in any conversation you can (or start one) about the Founding Documents, etc. Practice speaking and writing often – you will learn how to deal with various personalities, personal relationships, and the pre-decided opinions of your audience. Most importantly – you MUST allow yourself to be verbally attacked. Get it over with and then the fear of it can no longer force your silence. The worst part of the insult is the initial embarrassment, or the surprise if it comes from someone whom you never thought would be capable of such cruelty to you. Then, do it again. tell you something from experience – it’s the only way. Make God your center. Make sure that He approves of your words, opinions, and methods. God is the only one whom you should allow to change your course of action, and He is your only friend. Keep these things in mind, and you realize that your confidence comes from Him, and cannot be stolen from you by any man. His is the only approval you should seek, therefore the potential disapproval of friends/family/strangers is meaningless. Is it uncomfortable? Yes it is - at first. Is it worthwhile? Very much so. It is the essence of ‘grassroots’. Effecting change of opinion at the local level is imperative. The American Revolution was at least in part begun by conversations and debates in coffee houses and meeting halls. The historic Golden Lamb Inn and restaurant in Lebanon, Ohio was just such a place (which is why it is historic!). And let us not forget the role of pamphleteering, AKA Common Sense etc, in inspiring a Nation to particular action. Modern day pamphleteering is blogging, tweeting, facebooking, trolling comments on online articles, and the old fashioned (and still effective) letters to the editor. Write and talk, talk and write – DO IT!!! Preparedness Factual knowledge has its place in this – know what is going on and be able to produce reliable references to any who may ask for proof as you debate and/or write. Perhaps that seems intimidating or is a disincentive to “talk and write,” but this needs not be a list a mile long. Where do you get your information? Probably most of it comes from 2 or 3 sources. Simply keep those in mind, ready to rattle off as needed. One word of caution, though – only PROVIDE sources that are objective and factually reliable/credible. Opinions are not facts – do not cite sources that mainly produce opinions. Do not cite partisan sources. Wisdom is likely more valuable than being armed with raw current events data. Yes – I am serious. It is more important that you know yourself: Do you know why you believe the things that you do? How do you know that your views are correct? Could you defend your views if challenged? If not, then what can you do to strengthen your foundational beliefs so that you can express yourself? Do you understand how our Nation came to be in its current situation? As a Mom... A Sisterhood of Mommy Patriots®

What is the solution? The answers to these questions are mostly philosophical; only some require fact finding. One indispensable leg of the preparedness table is to know your enemy. Get to know their thinking as you just got to know your own. What do they believe? Why do they believe that? Where do they get their information? What are their talking points? What are the most common ways that THEY use to persuade someone with YOUR views? I have found that the absolute best way to learn these things about the opposition is to read the Facebook pages of groups that you do NOT agree with. You risk nothing. You are a fly on the wall, and you will gain much knowledge and wisdom! Scroll through the articles that they post, read the comments of their fans beneath the posts, read the debates that ensue. Then read the Facebook pages of groups that you DO agree with and do the same thing. There will be trolls on both types of pages so there will likely be many debates, some of them pretty nasty. You will develop a sense of what the most common baits are as well as what methods are most per-

One indispensable leg of the preparedness table is to know your enemy. suasive and what methods are the least persuasive. You can read when someone is not grounded in their beliefs as they become confused by the troll and begin to be persuaded by THEM! Notice how this happens (and it happens a lot!) and you can stop the process as it happens during a conversation YOU are involved in. The value of that – anyone listening to you or reading your work is not led down a rabbit hole, too. If you can maintain confident footing and credibility then others will listen to you. Organization The power of the individual is magnified by organizing with other like-minded patriots. How? Again, let’s look how others get it done. January 2012 37

Do you recall the recent controversy over the Komen Race for the Cure group’s decision to stop funding Planned Parenthood? What happened next is textbook for excellent organization. Planned Parenthood activated its fans and followers via social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc) and instantly inspired thousands of people to lodge complaints against the Komen decision and the group itself. Meaning, they already had a structure in place, like the little phone trees from the 1980’s, to get things done in real time. The result – Komen reversed its decision, and the executive responsible for the de-funding decision lost her job. Though the people who APPROVED of the decision likely numbered at least the same as those who opposed it, it was obvious that they were not organized at all and were therefore unable to compete. Lesson: devise a way to notify your group simultaneously and instantly when something needs to be done. Put it in place BEFORE it is needed. Once something is going on, it is too late to try to figure out who can help you and how to reach them. All members MUST be committed to take action once alerted. (Possible actions – phone calls, letters, peaceful assembly/protest, attending meetings to 38 MinuteMom Magazine

network or to protest government action/decisions.) Have back up means of communication available in the event that ordinary means are no longer available or desirable. We are in dangerous times. This is an emergency – literally to save our lives, to save our freedom, to save our way of life. Three years into Tea Parties, Liberty Groups, and 9/12 clubs – have we risen to the occasion? How would we stand if compared to the Founders? Influencing the Presidential election is only one part of the mission. What has happened in this president’s first term will remain even if he is defeated – unless we succeed. From God we have learned that there is nothing new under the sun. Our current problem is not new. How it happened is not new. How it is to be solved is not new either. The power is in the hands of the individual. That means you. And we need you right now.

YYLetters to the Editor Be Wary Young Adults – Preserve Your Independence You are on the edge of claiming the independence of adulthood. You stay up as late as you want, eat what you want when you want, wash your laundry only when you have to and make you bed only if you want to. Whether you have recently graduated high school, or are experiencing the journey of college, your future is before you. While breathing in your new independence you shake yourself free from parental control. Be wary young adults, your new independence is fragile. This is a time when it is natural to seek direction from others and you can easily succumb to the promising voices of teachers, professors, activists and politicians. They can appear smarter, and definitely cooler, than your parents. Chances are some will tell you that you are smarter than your parents as well. Listen closely to their message. Ask yourself, are they teaching you how to think or are they telling you what you think? Are they showing you how to apply reason to form your beliefs or are they telling what you believe – are you being taught how to determine what is a fact, what is right and what is wrong, or are they just telling you? Question them with the same youthful rebellion you use to question your parents. Consider that for most of us, our parents told us to do things because they wanted to teach us life lessons or help

us build character, but most importantly because they love us. Find out what motivates the other mentors in your life. Do they want to contribute to the betterment of future generations or is it tuition money, your vote or how they can manipulate your innocence to help them achieve an objective? You think you can’t be manipulated, good - live up to that. We are entering a time when there are many people in this Country working to implement great change. This change will move us away from our Countries founding principles toward a socialist society. They will tell you that you are entitled to a job, housing and healthcare, and it sounds fair. Be wary young adults, because what they fail to mention is that they will tell you what job you are entitled to, what housing you are entitled to and what healthcare you are entitled to. They will do this without regard for what job and housing you may want or healthcare you may need. It won’t end there; they will tell you what to eat, how much electricity you can use, what political party to support, what union dues you must pay, what you can discuss and what you must not dare discuss... Wake up because everything in this paragraph has already been, or is about to be, implemented. Our founders believed that man is endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Do you know the

difference between an unalienable right and entitlement? Do you understand how America’s independence provided the environment for the most successful Nation in the history of the World? If you said no to either question, read the Constitution and American history and then read the history of socialist societies. Why bother? Because history details the successes and failures of previous Nations. Reading history teaches us what works best for the common good of mankind and what fails. With this knowledge we can benefit from the ideas that led to freedom and prosperity and avoid the ones that ended badly. You have probably heard it said; it has been proven over and over that when we do not know history we are doomed to repeat it. I solemnly state with certainty, there are many things about history and the lack of man’s freedom that you do not want to repeat. I ask you to ponder one last thought: When you make an attempt that is unsuccessful, you only fail if you give up. Your only chance at success is if you try again. YYIn Your State State News from AAM Groups The Presidential Primary/Caucus Information With thanks to Stacy Finch, Samantha Harris, Patsy, Kelly Martin And special thanks to Wiki and to The Green Papers http://tinyurl.com/7b2g9fo Background information and previous elections for primaries and caucuses can be found in the Minute Mom Magazine: editions Jan., Feb. and March 2012, Dec. and Oct. 2011 http://tinyurl.com/772h28h As A Mom has shown the earliest known political activity in each state. To make the greatest impact on your state elections, it is suggested that interested individuals be involved as early and as often as there are opportunities to make a difference. Often these are at straw polls, at mass meetings, conventions and early caucuses as listed by state and by party. Please be aware that there is voting going on the US territories also. For more information on the entire schedule of all states, districts and all territories please go to The Green Papers at http://tinyurl.com/7lypf2d A review of terms: binding: delegates must vote for a certain candidate until released by that candidate non-binding: candidates may, at further conventions, change their votes, depending on viability proportional: delegates must vote in proportion to the percentages received non-proportional: “winner take all” viability: a term for having a minimum percentage of votes for a candidate required to have them proceed in the caucus/convention race. The viability percentage is often 15%. delegates-look at the number of delegates from each state and look to see if they are bound or not when looking at possible outcomes from the National Convention. Many states lost one half of their voting strength 42 MinuteMom Magazine

(delegates) to the Republican National Convention due to holding their primaries early**. Since caucuses are nonbinding, this rule did not hold true for caucus states. **”No primary, caucus, or convention to elect, select, allocate, or bind delegates to the national convention shall occur prior to the first Tuesday in March in the year in which a national convention is held. Except Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada may begin their processes at any time on or after February 1 in the year in which a national convention is held ...” [Rules of the Republican Party. Rule 15(b)(1)] brokered convention: there are not enough delegates to support a “win” for one candidate on the first vote. The pledged delegates are released from their pledged candidates and can vote for anyone they choose. Before the era of presidential primary elections, political party conventions were routinely brokered. PLEOs The Democratic Party has what has been termed “Superdelegates” or PLEO’s- Party Leaders and Elected Officials who are non-pledged going into National Convention. Third party candidates are generally elected at Conventions only. Please look at your own state’s Secretary of State’s or voter information website to find links to viable Third Parties for your state.

Abraham Lincoln was only able to attend school a few weeks, but he was a very well-educated man. How was he able to gain so much knowledge without going to school? The answer is – he read. From the time he was a little boy, he read everything he could get his hands on. Sometimes he would walk miles just to find a book to read. If you would like to get an idea of the kind of books he read, you will find a list here: (Lincoln’s reading list) Many people have written about his life. The following excerpts are taken from some of the books written about him and give us clues about how Lincoln learned. How many ideas for learning can you find that you can try? “As soon as Abraham Lincoln was old enough to understand, his mother took great pains to teach him . . . Taking him upon her lap, she would tell him stories which he never forgot of brave and good men, who had lived beautiful lives and done noble deeds. And often in the evenings by the glow of the firelight, . . . she would read to him from a wonderful Book which she kept with great care among her little treasures. The boy could not understand much that he heard; but the sound of his mother’s voice pleased him, and he wished that he too could learn to read.” “...Abraham discovered what opportunity and happiness books can bring to those who learn to read them.” “He was far better pleased when he could sit at home in the chimney corner and pore over his books. He had only two or three, but he read them again and again. It was his habit to read aloud–the thoughts seemed so much more vivid to him when he could hear the words as well as see them . . . It was a habit which he retained to the end of his life.” “Whenever Abraham found anything in his reading which seemed to be too good to be forgotten, he would take note of it in whatever way he could. If he had no paper, he would write with charcoal, or with a piece of red ‘keel’, on the side of a smooth board. The logs in the chimney corner were covered with his rude notes. When he had learned his notes by heart, he would rub them out to give place for others.” “He had heard the in order to speak and write correctly, one should understand the rules of grammar . . . That very night he set out to borrow the book [Kirkham’s Grammar], and after a walk of twelve miles returned with it under his arm. For several days he kept it close by him, and whenever there was a leisure moment he was studying from its pages. In a short time he had learned all the rules by heart, but he found that he still made mistakes in the use of language. It was only by taking great pains with his speech, and by trying very hard all the time, that he was at last able to avoid most of these errors and to use really good English both in talking and in writing.” “Everywhere he went, Lincoln was pretty sure to carry a book with him.” “He was a listener and a learner.” “...he saturated his mind with the two great masterpieces of English literature, the King James’ version of the Bible and Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress. Lincoln read and reread, again and again, both of these books until they became for him a storehouse to which he turned unconsciously for words, and phrases, and ideas.” (Taken from Stories of Abraham Lincoln in the Freedom Series at gardenofliberty.org) www.AsAMom.org

The Save the Constitution - Read It! Campaign is not a group or a program. It is an Attitude. The purpose of Save it! Read it! is to encourage patriots everywhere to do two things: 1. Commit to reading The Constitution and review it often. 2. Encourage others to read the Constitution. We have received challenges to read and defend the Constitution of the United States of America from various sources. All of us must commit to reading the Constitution of the United States of America and review it often. Only by understanding the principles upon which our government was founded can we recognize Constitutional abuses and be able to step up and stop that abuse. The Save the Constitution - Read It! Campaign started as an extension of the Patriot Pin Program developed by As a Mom... A Sisterhood of Mommy Patriots to encourage patriots everywhere to save the principles of the Constitution of the United States of America.

Classroom packs of 25 bookmarks are available from www.AsAMom.org Pins, Pendants and bumper stickers are at www.asamomestore.com
