2016.4—2016.5 Group work Partner: Shi Jianhao, Zhao Ruoyu Instrustor: Deng Jing

The project is a reconstruction of an old manor in Chengdu, Sichuan. The manor includes three antique buildings and a small pond, and they were all in a terrible condition. We want to solve the main issues in the buildings, such as improving lighting conditions, increasing the weather corridor, create an atrium for the activity area and so on. It is a group project, and I mainly worked on space planning and form design.

URBAN STAGE CO-WORKING 2020.02—2020.05 Group work Partner: Ruolin Lai Instrustor: Patrick Tighe

CLT is a new material in architecture area, and in this design we tried to figure out how to use it. The site is in the north of Los Angeles, which is planned to be an co-working area. Due to the surrounding buidings and traffic, we designed the building as an urban stage, for nearby street art, for surrounding design studio, and for the Los Angeles River on the East side. A stage could show the deep crazy thoughts of the artist; could show the interesting company culture; could show everyone’s rich inner world. Also, a stage could bring the view; could build a rest space; could provide a communicate center. Urban stage, is our best answer to the site.

SITE ANALYSIS

CONCEPT We totally built three stages in our buildings. One stage on the west site, face to the urban ,combined with several small stages, show visitors the company style. One stage on the east site, face to the river, acted as a outdoor auditorium, provide a gathering space. One stage in the middle, surrounded by the building, served with two bridges, built a rest space for everyone.

CIRCULATION

HILLS PASSENGER CENTER 2017.3—2017.4 Personal work Instrustor: Li Lu

A new bus terminal is planned to be built near the high-speed rail station in Shifang, Sichuan, for the high traffic demand of the city. Departure and arrival flow controling, vehicle parking, circulation designing, landscape designing are considered. The design also focuses on offering a welcoming lounge area for passengers. Green building technology is tried in the project, to solve the enviornmental problems.

Environment

Site Plan

SITE ANALYSIS The site is located in Shifang City, Sichuan Province. The climate is mild and humid. It is adjacent to the Shifang Highspeed Railway Station and the main road of the city. Together with the high-speed railway station, it will become the traffic center of the city. Due to the characteristics of the passenger station itself, the design needs to focus on the connection between the traffic and passenger flow, and the high-speed railway station, the connection with the urban main road, and the relationship with the building on the site.

1. Traffic flow

3. Integrate functions to form an L-shaped body, create two pockets

2.Divide the site and insert programs

4. Deform the roof and introduce sustainable design

DEPARTURE FLOW Passengers arrive at the Departure Hall after purchasing tickets and checking in baggage. There is also a maternal and child waiting room and a VIP waiting room.

ARRIVAL FLOW After arriving the station, passengers can choose to leave by bus, taxi, car, or high speed rail, or to take a break.

LOGISTICS FLOW

The lofistics flow located at the corner of the station will not interfere with other flows.

ROOF DETAILS Sichuan has a mild climate, which is suitable for green roof installation. Grass, shrubs and vines are used for roof planting. Since the green roof is designed, the structure of waterproof layer, planting layer and roof layer are also considered.

SELF-GROWING BLOCKS MODULAR 2021.2—2021.5 Instrustor: Lisa Little

Since people’s need for there living space may change from time to time, and it could be inconvenient to reform their home or move away, they may need for a home that could be updated. If people can live in a block, which could change, move, and construct easily, they may have more chance to have their “perfect home”. The building will be the combination of different blocks. As the blocks are always changing, the building is also always growing. Video:https://youtu.be/EcbGy8HW-uY

Module-S

Module-M

Module-M

Modules/Blocks Build different modules of different sizes to provide a variety of options for building block combinations. One or several modules could combine together into a block, and the block is still upadable. It could back to the block with less modules, and also can update to a larger one by adding more modules.

Module-L

Blocks-Residential

Self-growing Blocks The bolcks could be updated and also be restored, according to the needs of residents. The whole neighbourhood would be like a always growing building. The architect would just roughly restrict the basic functions, area, height, circulations and egress of the building.

Blocks-Public

LAYERS BY LAYERS EXTREME SITE 2020.8—2020.12 Instrustor: Rob Ley

The site of the project is long and narrow. The challenge of designing is how to use the site properly. Also, as the surrounding is a peaceful neighbourhood, one another point of the site using is how to reduce people's rejection of new buildings. In this situation, concept just come out. What about a combinantion of "central park" and "neighbourhood activity center" and "co-working".Several methods are used in the project, including using air rights, gracity Defying, etc.

Layers To maxium the aviliable using spaces on the narrow site, and avoid affecting the normal use of the road, the whole building is slided into five layers, higher at the edge and down to the site in the middle. Also, the building will be narrow at the bottom, and wider at the top. Different functions are located at different layers, and several platforms are produced to divide the layers.

CHANGLE CULTURL ART CENTER 2018.9— Project at BIAD

A culturl art center is planned to be built at Changle District in south of China. The project included seven buildings. The design would not only concern about the relationship between buildings, but also between buildings and the city. BIAD designed with three different concept, and I participate in each of them. What I did: Reference searching, floor plan drawing, analysis drawing, presentation preparing.

Plan A - Qibao Ark

Plan B - Textile Street

Plan C - Courtyard

CENTRAL AVENUE RENOVATION 2018.11— Project at BIAD

The Central avenue, which is the north axis of Beijing City, is and very old street. Some residents rebuild or add new part to the building with architect's help. As the result, the facade of the street is weird, and some of the buildings are dangerous to use. The project proposal is to remove the dangerous part and redesign the facade in Beijing style, to build the street safe and beautiful. What I did: Sity survey, reference searching, analysis drawing, data collation.

Present situation of the street

The renovation obey the building style of old Beijing city, using bricks, woods, and tiles. Part of Renovation

CONFERENCE CENTER IN NEPAL 2018.11— Project at BIAD

It is an aid construction project in Nepal, including tearooms, conference center, hotel, and activity center. Considering project funding and local transportation issues, the main materials are selected to be wood and bricks, which are the most commonly used at Nepal. An Nepal temple and an activity center in Chinese nearby are also need to be considered. What I did: Reference searching, 3D model building.
