Rotary Club holds oratorical competition

THE Central Davao Rotary Club, in partnership with their sister club, the Rotary Club of Manila Bay, successfully hosted the Mindanao leg of the 3rd Youth Peace Summit - Voice of the Youth Oratorical Contest last February 26 at Ayala Malls Abreeza.

Nine student orators from various regional schools competed in the said competition.

Aleen Omosora of Jojie Ilagan College of Business and Tourism emerged as the grand champion. She won a medal, a cash prize of PhP8,000, and the opportunity to compete in the national leg with free airfare and accomprize of Php3,000.

NOTICE OF WATER SERVICE INTERRUPTION IN SOME AREAS SERVED BY RIVERSIDE WSS MARCH 17, 2023

DAVAO City Water District advises the public of water service interruption from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM of March 17, 2023 affecting some areas served by Riverside Water Supply System (WSS).

Affected areas are the entire Riverside, Los Amigos, portion of Brgy. Ula (Centennial 4, Small Town, Stonetown Village, and streets of Rubia and Copper), and portion of Davao – Bukidnon Road (from Sampaguita street to Quarry street).

Water supply has to be temporarily shut off in the affected areas to give way to the tapping and installation of a newly laid pipeline to DCWD’s existing pipeline for the source inlet improvement at Biao Guianga Road. This project is among DCWD’s strategies to improve the water supply of the affected areas and reduce non-revenue water or water loss.

The DCWD management asks for the understanding and cooperation of would-beaffected customers and advises them to store enough water prior to the schedule. Water supply may be restored earlier if work goes smoothly or later if unforeseen problems arise.

The event is one of the organization's initiatives to strengthen its peace-building efforts by involving the youth while promoting and increasing awareness youth's role in achieving peace.

"We aim to mold the youth to be ambassadors of peace, both locally and globally," said club president Sydney Timothy Elago.

Judges of the said oratorical competition included Davao Travel Agencies Association president Davao City Water District Water Quality Division and this writer.

The contest's theme is "Supporting the EnLegacy."

The activity was held during the third day of the organized by the Davao Travel Agencies Association.
