NDF consultant Eduardo Genelsa said: “Mindanao continues to be resilient and to advance despite escalating enemy attacks because communists, cadres, NPA combatants, and revolutionary forces have vigorously waged the armed struggle and raised the people’s war to greater heights.”

NDF leaders have asserted that “there can be no peace until the roots of armed struggle are addressed decisively. The revolutionary forces are now stronger more than ever to wage armed revolution,

gain concrete benefits for the people, and ultimately attain justice and true peace.”

Rubi del Mundo, a rebel spokesman, said the anniversary celebration was participated by more than 15,000 people in Paquibato District in Davao City where they also held so-called National Peace assembly hosted by the NPA’s 1st Pulang Bagani Battalion.

The 1st Pulang Bagani Battalion also condemned the unfulfilled promises of the Duterte government in granting amnesty to the more than 400 political detainees and in the numerous ceasefire violations committed by police and military, and pro-government militia groups in some 500 villages across the country.

The rebels, led by NDF consultant Porferio Tuna, Jr., also gave tribute to NPA

leader Leoncio Pitao, alias Ka Parago, who was killed along with his medical aide by government troops in June 2015 in Paquibato District.

Tuna also hailed the NPA as the “true army of the masses – determined, disciplined and strong defender of the people.”

“The only way to annihilate the roots of violence and unrest is to realize the land distribution for the millions of peasants in the country, to respect the ancestral domain of indigenous people and Moro people, to abolish the wage slavery and end the exploitation of all workers, and to attain justice for all victims of human rights abuses and oppression. And the only way to pursue peace is only by waging the national democratic revolution and the people’s war,” the CPP said.

Sayyafs demand P100 million ransom for 5 Malaysian sailors

Continued fr om page 1 from The five captives – Mohd Ridzuan Ismail, 32; Tayudin Anjut, 45; Mohd Zumadil Rahim, 23; Fandy Bakran, 26; and Abd Rahim Summas, 62 – were seized by the Abu Sayyaf from a Malaysian tugboat off Sabah’s Lahad Datu town during a daring crossborder raid in July.

The Abu Sayyaf has phoned the families of the hostages to demand ransoms, according to Malaysian media. There was no imme-

diate statement from the Philippine military on the rebels’ demand, although it has repeatedly said that security forces were tracking down the Abu Sayyaf to rescue the kidnapped sailors – at least 2 dozen Indonesian and Vietnamese hostages are still being held by the group in the restive region.

Military propaganda claimed that over 300 rebels had been reportedly killed and wounded in Sulu and in nearby province of Basilan in

fierce clashes in recent months.

President Duterte has ordered an intensified military campaign against the Abu Sayyaf and other jihadist groups operating on Mindanao Island, south of the Philippines in an effort tom put an end to the violence that affected tens of thousands of civilians in the autonomous region where Muslims are demanding a separate homeland.

Zamboanga man arrested for sexually assaulting dog POLICE arrested a 50year man who was spotted by neighbors having sex with a dog in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines.

The man, believed to be under the influence of liquor, was filmed by one of his neigbors while

kneeling behind the dog and sexually assaulting the animal. The incident occurred in the village of Putik.

His neighbors reported the man’s bestial act to the police and had been arrested for violating the country’s Animal

Welfare Act. When asked by the police why he did it, the man was quoted as saying “it was the best.”

The vile video was also posted on Facebook and immediately went viral. The dog is owned by the man’s landlord.

DAR-ARMM releases land ownership certificates to CARP beneficiaries in Sulu SULU – A total of 237 Certificates of Land Ownership Award (CLOA) were released finally to beneficiaries under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) in the town of Siasi in Sulu, one of 5 provinces under the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

In a recent ceremony led by regional Agrarian Reform Secretary Amihilda Sangcopan, agrarian reform partners from Tulling Farm Workers Multi-Purpose Cooperative of the Tulling Agrarian Reform Community (ARC) formally received their land ownership certificates.

Local conflicts arising from land disputes due to ambiguous boundaries of individual lots hampered

cooperative activities and thus exacted a toll on the area’s productivity in the past.

DAR-ARMM’s initiative of conducting a relocation survey, erecting monuments leading to the turnover of CLOA is a landmark intervention by the regional government in solving agrarian reform issues in the community.

Provided for under Republic Act 6657, or the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Law, CLOA is intended to promote social justice among the marginalized, specifically workers in the agricultural sector, through land tenure.

It is a legal document that serves as an evidence of ownership, subject to restrictions, and secures the

tenure of the farmers to the agricultural land they till.

Among its basic restriction is that the beneficiary could not sell, transfer, or donate the land awarded to him over a period of 10 years after he received the certificate.

The land area covered

by Tulling ARC used to be owned by Filagro Corp. before it was covered by CARP in 1991. The farm workers then were considered as agricultural laborers who do not have the rights over the land they till. The Tulling ARC is situated in the northern part of the island municipality of Siasi.

The town is composed of five barangays namely Tulling, Siundoh, Manta, North Manta, Minapan.

Sayyaf commander, aide held in Zamboanga

Z AMBOANGA CITY – Authorities are holding a notor ious Abu Sayyaf commander – who was wounded in a battle with security forces in Sulu province – after his arrest at a private hospital in Zamboanga City where he is undergoing medical operation, officials said.

Officials said Hairulla Asbang alias Ahadi – implicated in the September 2015 kidnappings of 2 Canadians and a Nor wegian from a posh resort on Samal Island in southern Philippines – was arrested last week along with his bodyguard at the Zamboanga Peninsula

Medical Center.

Asbang travelled to Zamboanga City by boat after escaping the militar y in Sulu, one of 5 provinces under the Muslim autonomous region, where his group clashed with security forces.

The military’s Western Mindanao Command has confirmed Asbang’s arrest. The rebel leader is heavily guarded to prevent him from escaping or stop the Abu Sayyaf from rescuing him.

Authorities did not say how it managed to track down Asbang, but hospital guards usually report to the police the presence of gunshot victims.

Asbang is facing a string of criminal charges ranging from kidnappings to murders and military and police interrogators were all ready to question him and get more information about the Abu Sayyaf which pledged allegiance to the Islamic State.

The rebel group is still holding more than 2 dozen Asian hostages in souther n Philippines where it continues to elude a massive military operation – ordered by President Duterte – aimed at dismantling its capability to conduct cross-border raids in Sabah in Malaysia.

TECH TIPS: 9 Things Every Android Owner Should Try Right Now THERE ARE so many cool things you can do with Android that you probably don't even know.

From custom ROMs to gorgeous launchers, apps, LED notifications, gesture controls, icon packs and tweaks, there is plenty to keep you happy for a while. Here are nine things every Android owner should try.

1. S uper char ge yyour our WiSuper uperchar charge Fi Did you know you can tell Chrome to save time and money by reducing data usage? Most people don't. By using this setting, I've cut my data usage by 30 percent in the past month. How's that for easy savings? Go to Chrome > Settings > Data Saver and turn it on.

Likewise, did you know you can tell your phone to keep Wi-Fi on during sleep? Just go to Settings > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep and select Always.

Doing this means that not only will you download things while your phone's display is off, but you will also save battery life, because your phone won't have to reconnect to Wi-Fi every time you wake it up.

2. E nable G oogle N ow Enable Google No on Tap Google Now on Tap was introduced with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It provides contextual information for whatever is on your screen, allowing you to find information without having to search for it manually. You'll need (at least) Android Marshmallow to run it.

To enable Google Now on Tap, head over to Settings > Google > Search & now > Voice and switch it on or off. Once it's on, you'll then be able to enjoy fast, contextual information on tap. To disable Now on Tap, hold on the home button and a menu will appear. Tap the three-dotted icon and then Settings, where you'll be able to disable it.

3. The batter y optimizabattery tions No matter which Android device you have, there are ways to improve the battery life from the get-go. Firstly, you should turn off 'ambient display' or 'adaptive brightness'.

This setting changes the display brightness based on the current lighting conditions, but it's not perfect.

The sensor used to determine the light levels is not as accurate as the human eye, you can set a more appropriate display brightness for the current circumstances, and as the display is a key area where battery life is lost, make sure you keep this at the lowest level possible.

Additionally, all of the major Android UIs come with some form of battery saving mode. While the strengths of each vary, they are worth digging into to see how they can be best applied for your

particular needs.

For example, Sony's Stamina mode alters very little in terms of performance and it's one of those you can (and probably should) have enabled at all times.

The stock Android battery-saving function affects performance and app functionality quite heavily, so it might worth considering using this only when it's essential.

HTC's Power Saver, on the other hand, has several options that you can enable or disable within it, making it a little less rigid than the others.

Investigate the battery functions on your device by going into the settings and looking for battery, power or something similar.

4. G misGrrant app per permissions individually Have you got Android Marshmallow? It has a cool feature you should try: granular app permissions. This feature allows you to give apps permission to access hardware or data on your phone on a need basis. So if an app needs to access the microphone, it'll ask you for permission to do so when you launch the app and the app needs to use this piece of hardware.

For Android versions before Marshmallow, you had to grant that permission before downloading the app in the Play Store.

We assumed that denying some app permissions within third-party apps could break them. But now you can manage these permissions individually. Give it a try.

5. U se G oogle N ow, Use Google No enable always listening Google Now acts as a virtual personal assistant, which you can use to retrieve information quickly and easily. But it's also so much more than that: Google Now can interact with your apps, take notes, set reminders along with a whole bunch of other clever tricks.

The more you use Google Now the more you realize what an excellent service it is. To give a simple example, say you wish to take an afternoon nap, but are already in that sleepy state and about to nod off. You don't need to reach for your phone and open your clock app, calculate the time you want to wake and set an alarm for then.

Just say "Okay Google, wake me up in two hours."

You can even set it to work from any screen by going into Google Settings > Search and Now > Voice > OK Google detection > and selecting Always on.

6. S et up Andr oid Set Android Device M anager Manager How Android Device Manager is not pre-enabled on every single Android phone I simply don't know. Android Device Manager is a great tool that lets you track a lost or stolen phone, re-

motely lock it, ring it, or delete its contents and even display a lock screen message for anyone that finds it. It may not be the sexiest thing you do with your Android phone, but it should be the first thing you do.

You'll find the permissions for Android Device Manager in the Google Setting app under Security . You can enable Android Device Manager to remotely locate your phone as well as lock or erase its contents. But you'll also need to activate Android Device Manager as a device administrator.

Go to Settings > Security > Device Administrators and check the box next to Android Device Manager.

7. Tr y P ushbullet Pushbullet There aren't many apps that I think absolutely everyone should use, because everyone has different tastes, needs and habits.

But Pushbullet is different.

Everyone – and I mean everyone – should be using it.

You can push links on your phone to your tablet, from your PC to your phone or from your phone to all of your other devices. Copying and pasting URLs is so 1999.

Pushbullet also notifies you of SMS or calls on your PC and you can transfer files between all of your devices with Pushbullet too.

8. S av e time with NFC Sav ave Many people don't even realize what NFC is, how it works or what it can do for you. But NFC is brilliant. A single tap can pair your Bluetooth headphones to your phone, transfer all of the contents of your old phone to a new one, or even send a default message to a contact when you walk in the door at home.

Some guy even implanted an NFC chip in his hand so he'd never have to unlock his phone again.

You don't have to go that far, but an NFC-equipped device and a pack of NFC tags will change your life and save you tons of time.

NFC is one of the coolest and underrated things to do with your Android.

9. S etup lock scr een Setup screen secur security ity If your adventurous nature stops a little short of implanting an NFC chip in your person, the next best thing to do is set up your lock screen security. I am always surprised by how many of my friends don't have lock screen security set up.

If you lose your phone or have it stolen do you really want that thief to have access to all the intimate corners of your smartphone? No? Then set up a pattern or PIN lock right now. Just go to Settings > Security > Screen lock or, on some devices, Settings > Lock Screen to set up your preferred type of lock screen security. Seriously, do it right now.

While gonorrhea and herpes can be cured, there is still no vaccine or cure for HIV-AIDS. 9. Smoking (minus eight years). There are over 70,000 scientific articles to prove that smoking damages your heart, lungs, esophagus, stomach, bowels, prostate, and predisposes you to all kinds of cancer. In fact, smokingrelated illnesses are the top causes of mortality. If you want to live longer, quit smoking.

Studies show that when a patient with high blood pressure takes his medicines, he may live 10 to 15 years longer as compared to someone who does not take his medicines. For diabetes patients, studies show that reducing the blood sugar to normal levels has enormous health benefits.

– 1 kg ground pork with fat – 1/3 cup turnips (singkamas) – 1/3 cup carrots – 2 medium onion – bunch of spring onions – 1 egg – 5 tablespoons sesame oil

– 1 teaspoon ground black pepper – 1 teaspoon salt – 50 pcs or 100 pcs siomai wrapper – soy sauce – calamansi (lemon) – sesame oil

INSTR UCTIONS: INSTRUCTIONS: 1) Combine all the ingredients except the water and siomai wrapper and mix thoroughly.

2) Wrap the mixed ingredients with the siomai wrapper 3) Use a steamer and steam the wrapped siomai for 15 to 25 minutes. The time depends on the size of each siomai (larger siomai means more time steaming).
