2019/20 SEASON

World-Class Theater Made in Milwaukee... For Milwaukee SUBSCRIBE TODAY! BEST SEATS. BIG SAVINGS!

CELEBRATING MARK CLEMENTS’ 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY AS ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF MILWAUKEE REP! The Past 9 Years Have Been Great… But The Best Is Yet To Come!

Welcome. The 2019/20 Season marks my 10 year anniversary! We’ve come a long way together. Musicals are now a mainstay in our theaters, our productions represent our region’s beautiful diverse communities, and we’ve launched a nationally recognized new play development program. Personally, the last decade has been the best of my life as well. I married my beautiful wife Kelley, welcomed our daughter Amelie into the world and became an American citizen. I’m proud to call Milwaukee home. Along the way, we’ve grown our Subscriber base to the highest in a decade on our way to becoming one of the largest theaters in the country. By Subscribing, you experience world-class theater in the best seats at the best prices, while supporting art that is made locally – a win/win situation. Unlike touring shows, which maximize profits for out-of-town producers, we reinvest your money back into our neighborhoods with programs that reach 21,000 students in 250 schools and support more than 100 artists that live and work locally. Buying Local Matters! As my way of honoring the incredible support our Subscribers have given me and the theater, we offer a special anniversary season of exceptional productions from Rep classics to ground-breaking musicals to plays by the hottest new writers. I hope the memories you build at Milwaukee Rep last a lifetime as my memories will.

Mark Clements Artistic Director

A Celebration of the Blues This revival of a Rep premiere (previously titled Grafton City Blues) explores the inspiring story of Grafton, Wisconsin’s Paramount Records. For a few brief, bright years at the height of the jazz and blues age, Paramount Records was the leading label for recording artists of color in the Midwest – and broke down small-town racial barriers along the way. Artists such as Louis Armstrong, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Alberta Hunter and Ma Rainey all recorded there. This exuberant musical celebration of some of the greatest jazz and blues music features four sensational quadruple threat performers guiding the journey through story and song.
